Damaramu 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2003 I was also a little angry at the fact that Eddie was beaten so finally. I mean it didn't really make him look like a star. It made him look like a jobber to the stars. And Big Show isn't even a star!
Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted October 20, 2003 Tajiri vs. Mysterio - ***3/4 - This was a very good match that I think will actually help Tajiri. OMG they booked something correctly!!!!! Benoit vs. A-Train - **3/4 - What can I say, Benoit made the match....despite almost getting killed. Hardy vs. Gowen - ** - Poor Matt.......... APA vs. Bashams - **1/2 - Not bad considering Bradshaw was in it. Vince vs. Steph - One big fat fucking DUD - I HATE the McMahons......there I feel much better now. Angle vs. Cena - ***3/4 - I really enjoyed this match. Both solid work from Angle and Cena, and they matched up well. For all the pushes they give Cena, he is booked rather poorly though. Eddy vs. Show - **3/4 - Eddy is GOD. That is all I have to say. And hopefully the reason for the loss is to lead him to the push we have been hearing so much about. Lesner vs. Ultimo Taker - ***3/4 - Now I know I didn't give this match *****, but seriously it blew me out of the water. Taker sure as hell can work when he wants to and I must say I was impressed. But leave it to the WWE by fucking up the finish. Not a bad PPV overall. Definately worth ordering.
clean rob 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2003 Same match they always have Except...all that stuff they haven't done in previous matches? Why the fuck was Taker trying cradles etc. early on? Why was he trying to get a pinfall before the chain had come into play? To wear down Lesnar. It takes a lot of enegry to kick out of a pin by a guy Taker's size, or so the commentators keep telling us. Maybe he was trying to get a pinfall because, I dunno... if he had got one he'd have won and become champion? Of course, we all know that there wasn't going to be a pinfall before the chain came down (I was very surprised it played such a small part in the match), but in kayfabe, why not go for early pins? Because it doesn't make sense. Taker supposedly wanted to hammer Brock with the chain, that's why he harped on about it for ages. Yet, he wanted to pin him before? Seems a bit silly to me. Seems like they didn't think this through at all.
clean rob 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2003 "Bit silly" - yeah, maybe. But it isn't too much of a stretch of the imagination that what Taker was after is the title and if he got to beat up Brock with the chain that was a bonus. In order for the match to go a decent length, Taker couldn't get the chain and decimate Brock immediately, and it would have been kind of weird if he hadn't made ANY pin attemts. Plus, Taker was the one who made the most effort to get the chain, so you could tell he did want it.

Seems like they didn't think this through at all. Yeah, but Lesnar wasn't expecting the nearfalls, he was too busy worrying about the chain. So Taker confused him. Which fits into character, seeing as Lesnar has needed guidance from managers in the past, and Taker is the wise veteran. As for Hardy, if he said 'sent the tape to Stephanie' rather than the 'new GM', wouldn't he get punished by Vince like Noble was. Of course he'd say the new GM. And it's funny how Matt's career is suddenly over after one loss. I'm sure the anti-cripple group around here, or the anti-Gowen bandwagon riders, will correct me though. Guest TheHulkster Report post Posted October 20, 2003 Rey/Tajiri- I think that this match is probably in a tie for the 2nd best match of the night. Great work from both men and solid booking get this one ***1/2 Albert/Benoit- I shockingly loved this match. This was probably A-Train's best match ever. He really brought his A-game and really looked like he fucking hated Benoit. That, I love to see. Benoit is probably the toughest son of a bitch on the roster. ***1/2 Hardy/Zach- Hopefully it leads to a steady storyline for Matt. The match itself stunk due to Gowen's handicap. I know it's cruel, but the truth hurts. APA/Bashams- Simmons really looked like shit out there. The Bashams tried, but they're still pretty boring. Shaniqua looked smokin though. 1/2* Steph/Vince- WTF was up with that finish? 1/4* for Steph's cans. Cena/Angle- This match had Rock/Hogan heat. Angle's selling during the last half was phenominal. Cena brought his A-Game. The spots were strung together well. Kurt Angle keeps getting better every time he steps into a big match. This was probably the best match of Cena's young life. Both guys looked like a million bucks and the right man went over. ***3/4 Show/Eddy- I enjoy Eddy's Jerry Lawler of the next generation gimmick a great deal. The Big Show has improved so much over the past year and he showed it a bit in the match. I think both guys came out of this match looking strong. The Big Show with the US strap isn't the worst idea. **1/2 Brock/'Taker- I wanted to like this match. Brock looked a bit sluggish in there, but Taker really busted his ass to make up for it. Taker has turned into a great worker. If I had said that a year ago, I would probably be laughed at. The booking in this match was just so lousy that I can't really reccomend it. *** (Every last one of those 3 stars was earned by Taker) Thumbs up for a pretty entertaining card

Styles 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2003 i cant wait for SK's comments on this event...more importantly the ME and what he thought of it... OMG SCOTT KEITH NETSLOB SUCKS~! LOL2003. I just watched the main event and it was a good power match up but there was too much punching and Brock seemed to slow (probably his mounting injuries). Taker definitely had his working shoes on though. I didn't care for the run ins, and frankly think the ending should have been Brock's F5 counter to Taker's dragon sleeper, but then they wouldn't have used the chain I guess... I'd go *** btw. Guest THE MIGHTY THOR Report post Posted October 20, 2003 The ppv sucked ass, Rey/Tajiri and Cena/Angle were the only 2 matches worth watching everything else was overbooked and crap, Lesnar needed the FBI,a blackout and the help of a 50+ years old man to beat another old man. Not even good for a rental.

Guest Mikey2Dope Report post Posted October 20, 2003 i cant wait for SK's comments on this event...more importantly the ME and what he thought of it... This is from SK's little website he just put up: Monday, October 20, 2003 No Mercy thoughts I did catch No Mercy tonight, although I probably won't end up doing a rant until later in the week, as I kind of feel like taking a vacation from reviewing wrestling along with my vacation from work. It was an okay show, but there was some stuff that REALLY bugged me -- for instance, the ludicrous nature of building the main event around a chain when we had already seen a chain used as a weapon earlier in the evening, along with a chair, the gold medals, a lead pipe, a belt, a club, the STEEL stairs and a pair of brass knuckles. Not to mention needing 4 guys and a foreign object to beat Undertaker is getting stupid. QnD results: - Tajiri pinned Rey Mysterio to retain the CW title, with another retarded "fans running in" angle that's just gonna encourage drunken morons. Match was okay, if a little low-key (not to be confused with Low-Ki), and was ***ish. The lack of involvement from Jamie Noble was odd, after the hard sell was put on the Nidia angle. - Chris Benoit beat A-Train by submission to the Sharpshooter in a booking move I've been saying they should make for months now. The move is already over huge and will get a guaranteed pop anywhere, and I'm glad someone finally tapped to it. The usual Benoit-Train match, aside from Benoit nearly dying as a result of a botched press slam. ** - Zach Gowen pinned Matt Hardy with a moonsault out of nowhere in a finish that I don't get the point of at all. It helps no one and the only people who don't seem to get that Zach's 15 minutes were up 3 minutes ago are the WWE. About *1/2 - The Bashams beat the APA in a god-awful tag match that dragged on forever until Shaniqua and her new boobs did a run-in finish. 1/2* - Vince McMahon beat Stephanie when Linda threw in the towel, as they added about 18 different stipuations to the I Quit match and then booked a finish that meant no one said I Quit. Because god knows it's fine for A-Train and John Cena to quit, but Stephanie has to look strong. The match was horrible, but the crowd was into it. It really makes me wonder why Vince can't TEACH the other guys in the promotion how to be an effective heel like that, instead of having to do it himself. DUD - Kurt Angle d. John Cena by submission in a great match with another finish that helps no one. There was absolutely no reason for Cena not to go over here, and the longer they go without elevating anyone, the more impossible it's gonna be to do it because everyone gets painted as a loser. **** - Big Show pinned Eddie Guerrero to win the US title clean with a chokeslam in a boring match. Oh, but Eddie gets "elevated" by feuding with Chavo now. The window is officially closed. * - Brock Lesnar d. Undertaker to retain the Smackdown title in a dull, long main event with an anticlimactic finish and 4 guys running in to beat Undertaker. 20 minute main events are NOT a smart idea for this guy at this point in his career. And we get another one next month, against Vince. ** Overall, I'd have to call it thumbs in the middle, with Angle-Cena barely saving it from a thumbs down. The Mandarin 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2003 After reviewing my star grades for the matches, I'm gonna lower Brock/Taker to ***2/4, and Tajiri/Rey is going to take MOTW with Tajiri grabbing Wrestler of the Week. I guess the shock of Taker/Brock's match being entertaining made me give it more credit, but all in all, it was no better than Cena/Angle. So, y'know. Michrome 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2003 What is with all the love for Rey-Tajiri? The rana to the outside was cool, but they had better matches on Smackdown! where the bodywork actually lead to something, and the wrestlers actually sold the body parts. It was just a bunch of spots.
