Pearl Jam plan Layne Staley tribute

Recommended Posts

Pearl Jam's upcoming double-disc rarities collection "Lost Dogs" will feature a personal tribute to late Alice In Chains vocalist Layne Staley.

Billboard reports the song "4/20/02," written by frontman Eddie Vedder, was penned on the day of Staley's death last year. The track isn't listed on the album but can be found several minutes after the last song on the second disc.

"It was a real personal song wrote the night we all found out [he] died," Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard told Billboard last year. "He stayed in there, didn't work on anything else, and worked this song up."

Featuring only Vedder on vocals and guitar, "4/20/02" attacks the singers of unnamed bands copying the style of Staley.

"So sing just like him, fuckers," sings Vedder. "It won't offend him /just me / because he's dead."

The album also contains alternate versions of previously released B-sides and outtakes "Alone," "Wash" and "Hard to Imagine." Bassist Jeff Ament makes his singing debut on the song "Sweet Lew."

"Lost Dogs" will be released Nov. 11, the same day as the concert DVD "Live at the Garden."

Eddie rules. I should definitely listen to more Pearl Jam. I stopped after the second album for some reason.

Forgive me here, but those are, quite possibly, the worst lyrics that I've ever heard. The message is nice, but the means of conveying that message suck.

Eh, normally I'd agree with you, but it seems *REAL*~! I know I sound like all those losers who talk like that, but in this case, I don't think even the most cynical person can try and deny the guy's emotion. Prove me wrong TSM.

When I think of what he's saying though, the first band that comes to mind is Puddle of Mudd.

Really? My first thought was Godsmack. I mean, shit, they took their NAME from an AIC song.

i doubt the point was to make it any good, i think it was just a cathartic thing for himself, and if other people want to listen to it, fine.

You did a better job of explaining it than me.
