Guest Redhawk Report post Posted November 5, 2003 I've noticed that in the past few years, there are a bunch of 75-61, 70-66, 80-70 games early on. Then ESPN and all the sports shows start the "What's wrong with the NBA?" segments. Then everyone starts moaning about how they miss the good ol' days with Magic, Larry and MJ. Then by the All-Star break all the teams are flowing and it's all forgotten.
Gert T 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2003 The NBA will face a class action lawsuit from those of us suffering from the mental anguish that was the Nuggets-Pacers game. 7 points in the 3rd quarter, amazing Denver. Also I disagree, LA will roll over Duncan-less Spurs.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2003 Rasho Nesterovic and Kevin Willis will be swinging the elbows. The Lakers game will be a low scoring game somewhere in the mid 80s and if Parker is healthy the Spurs have a chance.
Tony149 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2003 Parker is still questionable, at least from what I've heard on TV. Unless he's 100% I doubt Pop will play him just because their opponents happen to be the team the media is creaming over. I'm not expecting a Spurs win, but I'll laugh my ass off if the Lakers lose to a team who haven't found their stride yet.

Then by the All-Star break all the teams are flowing and it's all forgotten. In those days, flowing offenses scored 120+. Today, it's 90-100. Shooting percentage has sucked for a number of years. 45% from the field is not that good. Also, the game is way too physical. Officiating sucks and when players do get to the line, they miss. Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted November 5, 2003 Do the NBA officials officiate the WNBA too? If not they should because they need more job experience...I watch some of them just ignore people getting slapped in the face and knocked to the ground during a battle for a board
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2003 The NBA is absolutley dreadful right know. No teams can score, and no teams can shoot the ball. Hopefully this is just early season rust, and the level of play improves. YOu have got to be kidding me! There has already been several good games, people scoring alot, not to mention LeBron. I know it sucks knowing the Lakers will walk away with the title, but the season is looking great, so far. Oh yeah? I seriously have the Golden State Warriors higher in my list of potential champs than the Lakers. LA's just not winning this year. Now that is good humor right there. ph34r g0ldEn $t@Te

Kobe was pushing people to the gorund every game against Minnesota and not getting called for it. Also, when he tried to decapitate Bibby in the atrocious game 6 in 2002. I meant the NBA officials are making such horrible calls that they need to work more and get better. Only way of doing that would be officiating the WNBA as well

ANKLELOCK 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2003 Jazz 91-80 over Phoenix. They now have wins over TWolves, Portland, and the Suns. Also 7-1 in the preseason. Jazz vs. Lakers in Western Finals. Malone vs Utah. Thats what it looks like right now.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted November 6, 2003 Portlad is a whoopity shit team now. Pheonix is pretty good but not great. Minn isn't healthy yet. You're really blowing the Jazz's early success way out of proportion

You're really blowing the Jazz's early success way out of proportion I will be satisfied as long as they are not the worst team in the league at the end of the year as EVERYONE has predicted. Speak of the devil....on the 6 p.m. Sportscenter they had a segment talking about how scoring is down and shooting percentages are down. They were asking Tim Legler about rule changes and what can be done. Same thing they do every year.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2003 It's a question that should be asked. The sloppy play, and lack of overall offense is hurting the league.
alfdogg 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2003 The last pre-MJ era Wizard is finally gone, as the Wiz traded Jahidi White to the Suns for Brevin Knight. I like this trade on both sides. Washington finally gets a pass-first PG, and Phoenix, after trading their starting center to get Knight, come out of it in the end with a little more help in the middle instead of being stuck with yet ANOTHER guard. Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted November 6, 2003 It's a question that should be asked. The sloppy play, and lack of overall offense is hurting the league. Alot of it has to do with refs not calling shooting fouls when people get their arms smacked or mugged under the rim.
alfdogg 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2003 How about a shorter shot clock? 16 or 18 seconds, perhaps?
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted November 6, 2003 That'll hurt the offense more because teams will be rushing their shot more
alfdogg 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2003 It would take some times for some teams to get used to, but it wouldn't be a problem for teams like Dallas, Sacramento, New Jersey and other teams that push it a lot and get a lot of fast breaks.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted November 6, 2003 ok, so we help 3 teams and hurt the rest because that's suppose to help with the offensive numbers? I don't get it nor do I see it. 24 is fine. Things that need to be worked on are the officiating and players need to work on shot selection

alfdogg 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2003 OK, maybe I did make it sound like that. How about this though: In the next couple preseasons, they could experiment with the shorter shot clock, then go with the regular one in the regular season. That way, if no one likes it, they can just not use it at all.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted November 6, 2003 I like it at 24 personally because it gives a team time to set up an offensive play and if it doesn't work out they still have enough time to run another quick play. If the officials called fouls correctly and players worked on shot selection there would be alot more points. Another thing that's different today from the 80s-mid 90s is the emphasis on defense. Another thing as far as shot selection is people not passing it when they don't have a shot but forcing it up, alot of the old good teams knew how to pass the ball effectively. Guest Redhawk Report post Posted November 7, 2003 The thing is, there are always a batch of low-scoring games early in the season. And people always overreact to them, calling for rule changes and everything. But by mid-season everyone stops complaining. Just ride this wave out and things will be fine. No need for shorter shot clocks or anything like that.
