kkktookmybabyaway Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 I didn't watch it all the time, but when I did I laughed...
Guest El Satanico Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 Homer-Peter and Lisa-Meg are really the only characters close enough to call rip offs.
Guest Retro Rob Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 Meg is too materialistic, as opposed to the sentimental Lisa, so I wouldn't call it a rip-off.
Bruiser Chong Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 What irritates me is when people try to connect every character to the Simpsons. It's not a complete rip off, you know. And not everything on the Simpsons is a Family Guy ripoff. Everyone acts like just because the Simpsons put stuff that's so out there, it's because they're ripping off FG. I'd say it's obvious that they've been influenced by the show, but then again, one could say that all the pop culture references on FG is just ripping off the Critic, who was doing all of that stuff back in 1994. Let's just agree that every show that comes down the pike, whether it's animated or not, has its influences from other shows.
Bruiser Chong Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 Meg is too materialistic, as opposed to the sentimental Lisa, so I wouldn't call it a rip-off. I think the comparison is just that they're both pretty annoying when compared to their surrounding cast of characters.
Renegade Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 Method to Madness is by far my fave episode. "I-I think the best piece of advice I was given was by Martin Scorsese when I was trying to figure out why I was taking abuse from a young Chris O'Donnald. And he said you dont have to understand why, your character does. And that always struck with me..."
Nighthawk Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 Meg is too materialistic, as opposed to the sentimental Lisa, so I wouldn't call it a rip-off. I think the comparison is just that they're both pretty annoying when compared to their surrounding cast of characters. I like Lisa, but my taste in characters can run a bit odd. I think the influences flowing both ways are acknowledged and good natured... Peter Griffin appearing among the Homer clones being an example. I was a bit surprised by Homer becoming Death, cause it was more direct than usual.
Guest El Satanico Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 I was a bit surprised by Homer becoming Death, cause it was more direct than usual. I believe both were influenced by a Twilight Zone episode. I haven't seen that episode, but somewhere I read that. It sounds like something TZ would do and Simpsons do alot of references to TZ, so I'm not doubting that it's true.
JHawk Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 My favorite line episode comes from when Peter scams the Make A Wish Foundation. ::an ink bottle spills, changing Peter's petition to get Coach back on the air to say "If you don't put Coach on the air, I will kill Craig T. Nelson":: Peter: Wow! Craig T. Nelson! Craig T. Nelson: Are you Peter Griffin? Peter: Yeah! Craig T. Nelson (while handing him a gun): Make it quick.
Bruiser Chong Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 Not sure if the Homer Becomes Death segment was a TZ takeoff, but the last segment of the night certainly was, as there was an episode featuring a man who had a watch that could stop time, but ended up dropping and breaking it after freezing time.
the max Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 Lois: What's going on? Stewie: We're playing house. Lois: The boy is all tied up. Stewie: Roman Polanski's house. My favorite line ever.
Guest Dmann2000 Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 Today at work I was ringing up an order and for no reason my mind started thinking about the episode where Stewie brainwashes Chris and is speaking for him, trying to get a gun I think. I kept snickering and laughing under my breath, the customers in my line probably thought I was crazy.
HurriShane Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 I really liked the show when it was first airing on fox, but I've caught some reruns on cartoon network and I don't find it as funny as I used to. It's still a good show but not as good as I remembered it being.
HellSpawn Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 ...My favorite scene is when Peter trips on the sidewalk and spends a good minute groaning repeating the same sound over and over again. I was rolling on the floor when I saw that part. Thats one of my favorite scenes ever.
Vyce Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 The show just rules all. So many great lines, too. One of my favorites: (Watching Sesame Street) PETER: Hey... is The Count a vampire?" BRIAN: What? PETER: I mean he's got those fangs...did they ever show him doing somebody in and feedin' on them? BRIAN: Let me get this straight....you're asking if they've ever done an episode of Sesame Street in which The Count kills somebody....and then drinks their blood for sustanence.... PETER: Yeah. BRIAN: No, i dont think they've ever done that.
Guest El Satanico Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 A Reminder: The banned from Fox episode "When You Wish Upon a Weinstein" is on Cartoon Network tonight at 11 est.
Guest Flyboy Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 A Reminder: The banned from Fox episode "When You Wish Upon a Weinstein" is on Cartoon Network tonight at 11 est. That episode wasn't even that funny to me.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 Space Dreidel! It's not exactly a reach to figure out why this was banned.
The Amazing Rando Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 that song was classic TV... I can't explain it but by the end i was singing along...
Guest El Satanico Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 Yeah jew jokes don't go over well on tv, movies or music...damn jews and their stranglehold on such industries.
Guest Retro Rob Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 I was just watching some of Season Two today. Peter's vibrating "Mr. Cucumber Head" prototype is another classic gag. Also his editing of The King and I including A.N.N.A. conquering the Planet of Siam and dubbing it America is hillarious.
Guest El Satanico Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 Any episode with a SHATNER! reference = gold KAAAAHN!!!
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 I enjoyed Tony Robbins swallowing people
Damaramu Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 I remember reading the quote that someone had in there sig.....and then I finally saw it the other day..dear god that was funny. The "What's your name!?" *looks around the room and sees a pea* "Pe....." *looks around and sees a girl crying* "ter......" *a GRIFFIN flies through the room!* "Griffin.....DAMMIT!"
Guest JMA Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 I was always (and still am) a big fan of Family Guy. I did miss some of the episodes on Fox because of the wacky timeslot changes. Thank robots for Cartoon Network.
Guest El Satanico Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 I remember reading the quote that someone had in there sig.....and then I finally saw it the other day..dear god that was funny. The "What's your name!?" *looks around the room and sees a pea* "Pe....." *looks around and sees a girl crying* "ter......" *a GRIFFIN flies through the room!* "Griffin.....DAMMIT!" You were slightly off "What's your name!?" *looks around the room and sees someone eating peas* "Pea....." *looks around and sees a girl crying* "tear......" *a GRIFFIN flies through the room!* "Griffin....." *woman is still staring at him* "...that's right Peter Griffin...ah crap!"
