I like Outback, but as a pure steakhouse, I think Ruth's Chris takes it down. Shula's is right there in terms of quality, but their prices are higher, so RC gives you more bang for the buck.

I like any place with good steaks. As long as it's a good steak joint I'd like it. I'm not too picky about quality steaks.

 

I'd rather not pay an arm and an leg. So a quality steak at a reasonable price and I'm there. By reasonable I mean no more than $20-25 for a Filet Mignon.

 

I have to go out for good steak, because it's hard to cook it properly for me at home. I prefer mine to be red or extremely pink but not bleeding. However, I wouldn't send it back if there was blood when I cut into it.

 

 

But now prime rib, it must be as raw as it can safely be cooked.

I don't like any pink or red in my steak. Not well done, but where it's just brown enough. Too well done and it can get burned and some what tough.

 

I'm suprised you'd trust the resttuarant to cook your steak. They seem to overcook alot of the times, i've gone out.

That is why you specify the COLOR of what you want and not the style because my medium rare is different from yours.

 

I just say I want it pink but no blood and they get it right 95% of the time.

I've always had good luck with steaks ordered out.

 

I usually order medium rare and I've only had a few over cooked ones. As long as they aren't completely brown inside I can live with it. I really should start ordering rare, because the chain places like Outback usually cooks medium rare more than it needs.

 

There's no such problems at the higher class joints. When you ask for rare at those places, it comes to the table bloody. So medium rare is usually perfect.

Ruth's Chris ruins their steaks by drenching them in butter, even if you ask for them dry. The best steaks I've had have been at the Capital Grille in McLean, VA. Dry aged, superbly cooked, and the sauces are never in excess. Their spicy calamari and their potatoes au gratin are fantastic as well, and they have a great wine list. The Morton's near our flat is comparable, though, so I'll vote for them on the list.

Every time I've ever eaten at Texas Roadhouse, I've gotten a large slab of meat with some taters served by a cheerful blond with big tits. There's also peanut shells everywhere, and the smoking section is always completely full of smoke. Thumbs up. I like outback as well.

I've heard good things about Fogo de Chao, the Brazillian steakhouse, but I've yet to indulge.

 

Another place was La Capilla Argentina in Cancun (at the Marriott? Radisson? Can't remember) where I had this sampler grill with 3 types of steak and a lobster tail. Even better, I had a 2 for 1 card so my fiancee (although she wasn't at the time) basically had steak for free.

 

When I was in Cleveland for a friend's wedding, my fiancee and I tried John Q's downtown. If you can get over the fact that Clevelandites have Browns clothing grafted onto them, it's damn good eating. Nothing against Outback (which is pretty good with reasonable prices - and the chicken/ribs combo will feed you for about 3 days) but sometimes you've gotta spend a bit more to get some really good stuff.

Although, one evening there will empty your pockets quite a bit.....

 

Anyway, if anyone lives around the Charlottesville, VA, area, or is going there....the Aberdeen Barn has the BEST Steak and Prime Rib I've ever had

Where pray tell are the other places? VA? DC?

I don't know how widespread it is, but we've got a place called Longhorn here. It's close between it and Outback, but I like Longhorn a bit more.

Outback is by far the best I've had. Engine 46 in Philly was pretty good.

 

I didn't like Longhorn too much the one time I went there.

I'm a bit NE of you, Eric, but there is a Ruth's Chris in Baltimore, not far from the Harbor and the Improv, Morton's is right nearby, and Shula's in on the ground floor of the Windsor Hotel. These are all a few minutes off of I-95 and there's plenty of parking nearby (RC will valet park your car, and I imagine the others will too).

 

I know there's a Ruth's Chris and a Shula's somewhere in the northern VA area, but I don't get down that way much, so I wouldn't know exactly where.

Of the chains, I think that the Lonestar Steakhouse is probably the worst.
