AlwaysPissedOff 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2003 Yeah, that's what you need to do when you a PF who's inconsistent as hell... The people who run the Magic are fucking morons.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted November 18, 2003 He was over rated anyways. He was viewed as a good coach because he gave T-Mac the ball? They need to figure out a way to get Gooden open for 10 foot jumpers and Howard down in the post

starvenger 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2003 All I can say is that if a team starts 1-10, and you're not the Grizzlies (who frankly are surprising the hell out of me by not sucking right out of the gate), heads will roll...
Skywarp! 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2003 Doc Rivers may be fired by Magic, but Doc Morris would never be fired by Little Mac!

Mr. S£im Citrus 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2003 He was over rated anyways. He was viewed as a good coach because he gave T-Mac the ball? He was viewed as a good coach because he went straight from the booth to his first coaching job, and took a team who's most talented players were a rookie Mike Miller and a then-unproven Ben Wallace to the playoffs in 2001. Unfortunately for Doc, that set the bar too impossibly high for him. I think that if Giricek and Garrity were healthy, things would be a little better; at least then, they'd have another scorer. As it is, with Gooden playing way below the level he played at last season, McGrady's the only guy they have who can put the ball in the hole.

JaMarcus Russell's #1 Caucasian Fan 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2003 (edited) I always thought that Doc Rivers was in a no-win situation in Orlando. In his first year he almost took a team of nobodys into the playoffs. He has overachieved in every one of his seasons in Orlando. But compile mangements mismangements of Grant Hill and Doc River's handling McGrady's friends (Brad Miller and Horace Grant) it had to come into an end. Hes probably going to end up with the Bulls or even Miami. Its sad to see a coach as good as Rivers get fired after getting off to a slow start with a core of players that have never played with each other before. If the league was to adopt that policy Phil Jackson would have been fired last year (And I'm a Laker fan). Edited November 19, 2003 by Still Fly
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted November 19, 2003 I think if McGrady drops 40 every night and the Magic lose the rest of the games for the season, I'll at least be SOMEWHAT happy.
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2003 One of the Houston radio stations is saying that Rudy Tomjanovich might be contacted for the job. Don't know how accurate this is, but that's what they mentioned this afternoon.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted November 19, 2003 I think Doc got a raw deal. There are only two good, healthy players on that team (Gooden and T-Mac) and one of them is coming off of his rookie season. There are guys who they were counting on who are hurt (Giricek, Garrity, Grant Hill to some extent). If you must blame anyone, blame the front office for not putting together a good enough roster. But the real culprit is injuries. And, hell, it's only 11 games into the season. Give them a chance. I think Doc's earned it after taking them to the playoffs every year. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2003 Why is Doc Rivers a good coach? His best coaching job was with a bunch of no names, who are alot more likely to play hard because they aren't overpaid superstars. Every other year, the Magic have not finished has well as people expected them too. Considering they play in the weaker Eastern Conference, and teams with marginial talent like Detroit, and another with 1 superstar Philadelphia have had greater success. Why not Orlando? This wasn't the right place for Rivers. Maybe the Charlotte franchise. He did his best coaching job, with marginal talent. Which is what Charlotte will have. alfdogg 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2003 I though Bickerstaff was only the VP? Nope, he's both. He'll probably fill the next coaching vacancy. Right now, as much as I like Cartwright, I'd say Chicago is probably the best bet as far as that goes.

Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Report post Posted November 22, 2003 NEW YORK -- Fired Orlando Magic coach Doc Rivers has joined ABC Sports as an analyst on its top NBA announcing team. "Doc is absolutely the right fit for our NBA broadcasts," said Michael Pearl, senior VP and executive producer of ABC Sports. "He brings the experience of being a game analyst and former player and coach, and his style is fresh and opinionated. We are thrilled that this worked out for us to be able to bring him onto our team," he said. Rivers will work with Al Michaels on a select number of regular-season and playoff games, as well as the NBA Finals. He will also work games with play-by-play announcer Brad Nessler. Rivers' and Michaels' first game will be Houston at the Los Angeles Lakers on Christmas Day. After entering the season as the longest-tenured coach in the Eastern Conference, Rivers lost his job this week after the Magic fell to an NBA-worst 1-10. He was replaced by assistant Johnny Davis. In four-plus seasons with Orlando, Rivers had a record of 171-168. He won Coach of the Year honors in his first season for leading a team with four undrafted starters to 41 wins. Rivers was a TV analyst for Turner Sports before joining Orlando.
