Selling question

Overall, an injured neck is probably the hardest thing to sell in wrestling. Lots of times when you have a hurt neck you don't even want to move it and since you don't use your neck like say a leg or an arm there's no selling the effects of doing something. With a leg you walk with it and with an arm you push or pull stuff with it. There's opportunity for selling right there in a match but with a neck injury you don't get as much chances to do something like that. You can't really shake your head out because that's detrimental to your injury and letting it hang limp to a side can be as well . Now, how would you sell a worked on neck during a match while you're on offence? I suspose on defence you can rub it with your hand but besides that I wouldn't really know what to do.

I know Hokuto wrestled with a broken neck before and I have yet to see that match but I'm mainly talking about a neck that's worked on heavily but not broken.

Well, whenever I get a really stiff neck, I tend to rotate my head slowly a bit to get some feeling back in.

There's also clutching at your neck with one arm as you stand up. If you try any types of lifts, it should prevent you from even getting the guy half way up.

Really, I like to think you shouldn't be able to do much on offense outside of brawling. Maybe a submission here and there, but that's it. For lifting moves you wouldn't even be able to get the opponent up.

And even for something as simple as a DDT, a wrestler who thinks it through would realise you risk damaging yourself, by maybe hitting your own head or jarring your body too much. But that said, DDTs these days are often a transition or desperation move, and you really do it out of instinct... so it's possible for someone who has an 'injured' neck, who is just trying to survive, to pull stuff like that out.

Just judging from my own sports injuries, I'd be inclined to sell my shoulders in between rubbing my neck and cringing, and relying on the commentators to explain that the interrelation of muscles causes the whole head, neck and shoulder assembly to hurt like a bitch if you throw one of them off.

Easy. Sell like you've been crippled and lose 5 seconds later.

I say:

Take a punch.

Fall to the mat.

Twitch uncontrollably.

...Of course, I sell like crap

Watch Misawa/Kobashi 10/97.

Misawa does an excellent job of putting over Kobashi's neckwork. Near the end of the match, Misawa's neck was so brittle it just took one chop to it for him to collaspe in pain, and later in the match he was unable to hold the Tiger Suplex 85 brige.

Or you could do just like Terry Funk, make half your body go limp, and hop up and down like you got water you in your ear.

Also, American Dragon vs. Christopher Daniels from ROH's 2nd show, Dragon hurt his neck. He was unable to nail a vertcal suplex, and instead took Daniels over with a DDT. Also, he was unable to ghold the bridge on his submission hold, so he locked in a similar move. Dragon later tapped to the crossface.

You know, I've often thought you could get some interesting psychology if you had someone who had suplexes as a primary offensive move get their neck worked over for quite some time.

Then, later in the match, when they try to hit these suplexes, their opponent takes full advantage of their weak neck. If they go for a german, for example, he could just elbow him in the head and his hurt neck would require him to break the waistlock and sell. This would also work with belly-to-belly's (just club the guy when he grabs him) and a few other suplexes.

Fuck, Angle would be great for that.
