Going to see UFC 45 live!

Recommended Posts

Guest Army Eye

I'll be at Mohegan Sun tomorrow for the show. This will be my second live UFC. I also attended 35 (Penn vs. Pulver main event). Anybody else here going?

Anyway I'm excited. I'll post a live report afterwards :)

It's going to be a "solid" show. I can't really see any "bad" fights on the card and the past 2 UFC's have been excellent.

With that said...

I'm not getting it. I just don't have any real interest in any of the fights. I got UFC 43 because of Liddell vs. Couture, I got UFC 44 cause of Tito vs. Couture, I got the Prides cause... well the list is too long :)

-Cabbage vs. Tank should be fun.

-Ricco vs. Rizzo could be really good or REALLY bad.

-Hughes vs. Trigg ... I don't know how to call Hughes' matches. A lot of them have been boring and it's usually up to the opponent to "make" the fight.

-Baroni vs. Tanner has promise

-Edwards and Lawlers respective fights should have some good stuff in it as well.

Like I said, it's a good show but I can't see myself going insane like I did at the last Pride show, or the last UFC.

It's not bad, it's just that as of late both PRIDE & the UFC have been putting on shows packed shows.

Although, the upcoming 11/30 Pancrase card looks even better to me.

Might as well put this is here. Since nobody seems to really care.

Results from the Sherdog MB (I don't know who is watching later so for some it might be spoilers.)

Prelims

Yves Edwards wins via tko (strikes)

Rockel wins via submission (guillotine)

Rizzo wins via UD

Show:

Robbie Lawler vs. Chris Lytle - Robbie wins via UD

Awesome fight, they exchanged blows in the first round with Robbie getting the better of it. Robbie slammed him big time then landed some good follow up GNP. Chris won the 2nd round as Robbie threw just a couple of punches the entire round. Round 3 Robbie won by dropping Chris with a wicked right hand, but Chris got right back up and landed some of his own. The fight ended in fantastic fashion with Chris suplexxing Robbie chest-to-back, but Robbie reversed and landed some bombs as the bell rang.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Phil Baroni vs. Evan Tanner - Tanner wins via TKO 1st round (bad ref stoppage)

Big swing in this fight. The first half of round 1 was all Phil, he rocked Tanner numerous times, Evan crumpling down a couple of times, but Phil couldn't finish him as Evan got his legs and held on. Phil gassed a bit and Evan was able to clinch at will, throwing 5 or 6 straing knees to Phil's body and head, he got Phil to the ground, mounted him and rained elbow after elbow until Larry though Phil verbally submitted and stopped the fight.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Cabbage Correira vs. Tank Abbott - Cabbage wins via TKO 1st round (Doc stoppage from cut)

Cabbage dominated the fight...Tank landed a couple of shots but they did no damage. Cabbage hurt Tank a couple of times with punches, and nearly KO'd him with MT clinch knees. He eventually opened a huge cut over Tank's right eye that obstructed his vision and the doctor stopped it. There was a brief altercation after the fight between Tank's corner man and Cabbage, but no punches were thrown.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Falaniko Vitale vs. Matt Lindland - Lindland wins via Submission 3rd round (tapout due to strikes)

Don't watch this fight, hide the women and children...this was hideous.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Matt Hughes vs. Frank Trigg - Hughes wins via RNC 1st round

Trigg gets early takedown, they roll around trying to gain position. Neither landed a punch I believe, then Matt picked him up and SLAMMED him down like everyone else. Matt eventually works his way to Trigg's back and ends up getting a STANDING REAR NAKED CHOKE on Trigg. Awesome!

Eh, the card was good. Nothing great though.

Lawler v. Lytle

Good opening round, good third round. Second round was rather boring. It's like Lawler knew he won the first round, figured he'd rest in the second, and then take the match in the third. other possibility though was that he was still shaken from that heel to the head he took to end round one. This fight was crazy just in the reactions the guys had to each other. Seemed like there was alot of respect between them after the fight which is always good to see.

Baroni v. Tanner

Damn, did Tanner take a licking and keep on ticking. This was a really enjoyable fight. I thought Baroni got screwed on the finish, but I think even if he would have been able to endure the beating for the rest of the round he would have lost in the second. Baroni fought a bad fight strategically as he appeared to gas out about 3 minutes into the opening round after throwing so many punches to start. Boy, looking at the 2 fighters after the fight

Tank v. Cabbage

Tank took a beating. He landed maybe one good shot that appeared to affect Cabbage. Cabbage threw a few solid knees. Got cut on Tank. Fuck Joe Rogan for his whole PC stance on the post brawl. Yeah, yeah, they don't knew the bad pub, but that shit also sells tickets and gives the fights a little added aura of intensity.

Lindland v. Vitale

Most boring fight of the night. Lindland proved the first fight was indeed a fluke. I know Lindland is a world class wrestler but I think Vitale is out of his league in UFC as he showed pretty much nothing here.

Hughes v. Trigg

Good fight, if not too short. Both guys showed good groundwork at the start of the fight. The standing rear naked choke was just awesome to witness.

Looking Ahead

Lawler - Well, he could be in line for a welterweight title shot but the likelihood of that happening with Hughes as champ is minimal. Do you keeping building Lawler up at this point by feeding him better opponents, or do you just try to keep him strong until Hughes eventually loses, and then a strong Lawler can avenge his teammates loss. He could try to get revenge on Spratt but a second loss to him would really hurt. I don't think he has the experience to take on Sherk yet though so this doesn't leave Lawler with much

Lytle- Don't really care

Baroni & Tanner - Definite rematch here. No questions asked

Cabbage - Well, he said he wants Kimo. Works for me. As long as Kimo plays ball this time unlike him pulling his submission crap with Tank. Kimo needs to know his role. Any mid level brawler who lacks the skills to ever be a world champ should focus on entertainment as much as winning the fight. After all, thats why Kimo was there.

Tank - Time to hang em up.

Lindland - Now that he's avenged the Vitale loss, he could go after the only other guy that beat him in Busta. That's assuming Busta comes back to the UFC. Would that match be for the title? The next best possibility would be Phillip Miller. Hell, make that match for the Middleweight title.

Vitale - Don't really care

Trigg - Trigg has a good look and the potential to be one of the top welter's. Wouldn't mind seeing Trigg v. Sherk. Or just bring back Shonie Carter or Ronin.

Hughes - Announcers talked about BJ Penn moving up to challenge. I don't think Penn would have a shot. Hughes is fucking strong against guys his size, he would be able to manhandle Penn. I think Matt Hughes v. Dennis Hallman is a potential matchup. You could play off of Hallman's 2-0 record against Hughes and shit. That match has potential to draw (as much as a welterweight match can draw). Apart from that I don't really see any other options. The battle of team Militich would be great (although Hughes experience would clinch the victory for him) but like I said before I don't think it's gonna happen.

Lawler and Hughes are on the same team. The best bet would be Pete Spratt vs. Hughes, Hallman vs. Hughes, and George St. Pierre (if he beats Spratt on the 29th).

For the second time this year I was perfect with my predictions :)

I can't wait to hear what Army has to say about the show.

I was kinda disappointed as the match I was looking forward to see the most wasn't even on; Rizzo and Ricco. From World HW Champ to dark matches, what a drop. Rizzo is probably going to win the HW Title soon, I don't think there's anyone in the UFC that can beat him.

Yeah, but Sherdog said the Rizzo/Ricco match sucked, and reading the summary of it, it sure as hell sounded like it did.

UFC 45 was pretty dissapointing, but I'd rather order an event and have it suck, then not order an event that looks like it sucks, but turns out to be good. Yaknowwutimean?
