the max Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 The New York Rangers are on the verge of acquiring sniper Jaromir Jagr from the Washington Capitals, according to reports out of New York. The Post says Jagr has told two longtime confidantes that a deal to send him to the Rangers is near completion, if not already done. The newspaper also quotes unnamed sources who say talks between the Rangers and Capitals have heated up the past two weeks. Washington has reportedly agreed to pay $20-million of the $45-million guaranteed on Jagr's contract starting next year as part of the deal. There's no word yet on which players the Capitals would receive in the transaction. The Rangers are said to be hedging on the deal due to the uncertain nature of what a new collective bargaining agreement will mean to the financial landscape of the NHL. However, the Rangers may have some competition in the Jagr sweepstakes as the Detroit Red Wings have now jumped into the mix. The Post says general manager Ken Holland has at least indicated an interest in a deal for Jagr. After starting the season with five points in his first 11 games, Jagr has snapped out of his slump, registering 15 points in the last 10 games. You know, as much fun as I poke at the Rangers, depending on who they give up, this might actually help them if they make the playoffs. Jagr is a top-quality goalscorer, and passer. Put say...Hlavic-Lindros-Jagr...as a #1 line and watch points pile up.
The Czech Republic Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 Watch the Rangers finish 9th, like one point or less behind like, Pittsburgh or Buffalo.
CanadianChris Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 Watch the Rangers finish 9th, like one point or less behind like, Pittsburgh or Buffalo. Watch me laugh my ass off at that.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 Just another over the hill vet being added to the team.
the pinjockey Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 :eagerly awaits Jagr's reaction to the New York media:

Let's say Pittsburgh and New York have the same point total, but New York has more overtime losses than Pittsburgh, but Pittsburgh has more wins over New York. Who advances?
MarvinisaLunatic Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 I heard that it there would probably only be 1 player of little significance or a draft pick in return, the deal for the Caps would be just do dump his salary.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 Jagr going to the Rangers. Yet another reason for Pens fans, as scarce as they may be, to hate NY...
DerangedHermit Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 Jagr going to the Rangers. Yet another reason for Pens fans, as scarce as they may be, to hate NY... Pens fans....that's a new one.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 They were around 10 years ago, or so I was told...
Red Baron Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 Pens fans are few and far between these days. Devils fans are impossible to find. Hurricane fans are dumb ass drunkin NASCAR fans, that they don't know what sport they are watching

Hurricane fans are dumb ass drunkin NASCAR fans, that they don't know what sport they are watching I Remember reading a Wall Street Journal article YEARS ago about the Hurricanes trying to entice NASCAR fans to hockey games by comparing their sport to NASCAR's. One of the ad campaigns revolved around all the crashing/hitting a hockey player endures over the course of game. Was an interesting read...
Slingshot Suplex Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 Please,Ken Holland, back away. Don't attempt to trade for Jagr......please??
Red Baron Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 don't you want lots of ego's and superstars to make a sub-par team, that a fledgeling team like Buffalo gets into the playoffs
Slingshot Suplex Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 I just don't want Ken Holland the Red Wings GM to get involved in this. Sure, let the Sabres in the playoffs
Dr. Tom Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 Since there's still a part of me that roots for the Crapitals, I'd love to see them unload Jagr. If they can get some talent in return for him, fine, but a sack of hockey pucks and a booklet of tomato sauce coupons is probably a good enough return at this point.
DangerousDamon Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 Isn't Jagr actually in shape this season, but just not getting enough ice time to do anything worthwhile
The Czech Republic Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 I Remember reading a Wall Street Journal article YEARS ago about the Hurricanes trying to entice NASCAR fans to hockey games by comparing their sport to NASCAR's. One of the ad campaigns revolved around all the crashing/hitting a hockey player endures over the course of game. Was an interesting read... I've obtained a script from the NHL that was an early idea for a TV spot advertising the Whalers moving to Raleigh: (Two men with mullets, John Deere hats, and Lynyrd Skynyrd t-shirts stand in front of a pickup truck mounted on cinder blocks.) Redneck 1: Hey, do you like hockey? Redneck 2: What's that?" Redneck 1: It's like that grass-fairy game them Messicans always playin but it's on ice and they have sticks. It's sorta like NASCAR. Redneck 2: Howdya reckon that? Redneck 1: Well, they've got mullets, they crash into the sides, they move really fast, and they're missing teeth. Redneck 2: Hot damn! That sounds cool! Redneck 1: It is cool...(turns to face camera, gives thumbs-up)the coolest sport on earth, that is! Announcer: The NHL. It's the coolest sport on earth. HHH: (poses, spits water)
Highland Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 They would actually have such a lame ass commercial on TV about hicks from Caroli~~what am I saying of course they would. Why the NHL tries to get into a market where there is negligible interest in hockey escapes me.
