Guest Cerebus Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 I'm not his biggest fan (though I don't have that horrible loathing that many seem to) but this impressed me. Looks like he's finally taking a page out of Machiavelli's handbook.
Anakin Flair Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 I'm voting him out next year, but kudos to him for going to see the troops.
Steviekick Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 Very nice of the Pres to visit the troops, especially on the holiday.
Jobber of the Week Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 What? How in the hell would you keep a trip like that secret to the military? Knowing when the President is visiting a foreign land and defending him if necesary is part of their job.
Guest Cerebus Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 Jobber, the up-and-ups had to have known about it, but I guess the lower ranks didn't. From what I have read the thing was practically supr-of-the-moment.
Firestarter Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 How in the hell would you keep a trip like that secret to the military? Knowing when the President is visiting a foreign land and defending him if necesary is part of their job. No it isn't. Brilliantly done, Mr President. I wouldn't have thought it possible. Now get yourself back stateside, pronto... sir.
Vyce Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 Awesome moment. I must say, when he stepped out and the troops started cheering, I marked out a bit. Regardless of whether you dislike (or hate, as some here do) Bush & the war, this was a great thing to do for the troops. I was shitting bricks, though, until I had heard he had already left and was going to return soon to the U.S.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 That was damn cool as no one saw it coming. Awesome move by the president.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 Oh come on now -- Bush is doing this so the masses will hop on the pro-war bandwagon again so Halliburton can make more money. That HAS to be the reason, right?...
Edwin MacPhisto Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 Pretty cool. Especially cool because now a bunch of those soldiers can say "George W. Bush handed me an ear of corn." Which has a certain ring to it, I think.
Vern Gagne Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 Oh come on now -- Bush is doing this so the masses will hop on the pro-war bandwagon again so Halliburton can make more money. That HAS to be the reason, right?... A big oil company supplied the fuel for Air Force One too fly to Iraq. An evil pharmasutical (sp) company supplied medicine in case someone became ill.
Prime Time Andrew Doyle Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 The entire lead up to him coming out was almost like a Vince Russo type thing. I just saw it on the news, and half of me was expecting for him to rip off a mask and reveal himself to be Saddam and say "It Was Me World, It Was Me All Along".
Jobber of the Week Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 Brilliantly done, Mr President. I wouldn't have thought it possible. Now get yourself back stateside, pronto... sir. He was back in the air before the news release was even sent about it. He saw about 600 of the 130,000+ soldiers in Iraq. I wouldn't be shocked if at least 400 of them were trained in shooting very long distances just in case.
Firestarter Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 He was back in the air before the news release was even sent about it. Yeah, I know; I just don't like it when he's out of the country. I stayed awake until he landed at Andrews AFB.
Jobber of the Week Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 Yeah, I know; I just don't like it when he's out of the country. I stayed awake until he landed at Andrews AFB.
Guest Anglesault Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 Sure he spent the holiday with the soldiers, but, uh...HE DDN'T MEAN IT~! or something.

Highland Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 You people worry too much, there's no one on the face of the earth more protected than the president. The trip was planned in secrecy probably for both security reasons and to give the troops a welcome surprise (I assume). Bush's trip to Iraq was also a message to the terrorists, mainly that the leader of the free world will go where he pleases, and not at the pleasure of Al-Qaeda and their ilk.
Guest jpclemmons Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 I'll give Bush some props on visiting the troops.
Guest SideFXs Posted November 29, 2003 Report Posted November 29, 2003 This President flew 11hours to Iraq and 11 hours back. The plane landed with no lights, window blinds down, including the cock-pit shades. The pilots flew and landed the plane by instruments. They landed in a country that has downed American helicopters with rocket grenades. This was a statement to the troops, he is with them and President made a statement to the troops that we are with them. He had a meal with them and left. I find that awesome. Kind of put Hillary's trip to Afghanistan, on the back burner. Anyone hear anything about that? humm? Ok back to the history channel to watch "The Reagan Legacy"
Vern Gagne Posted November 29, 2003 Report Posted November 29, 2003 Iraqi citizen held a protest denouncing the terrorists attacks on their country. Relatives of people killed in these attacks where present. Let's hope the visit is not only moral booster for the troops, but the Iraqi people has well.
Guest JMA Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 Anything that increases soldier morale is good. They need to have good morale right now (with the almost daily attacks and such). I see nothing wrong with this.
Guest Redhawk Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 It'd be more impressive if he went without a camera crew. And, granted, I've never been in the military, but why would the President showing up be such a big deal? Seriously, someone explain that to me. That's the guy who sent you over their to risk your ass; I wouldn't be his biggest fan.
Vern Gagne Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 The Commander in Chief taking a huge risk shows he still is supporting the War, and hasn't forgotten about them. A large majority likes President Bush. They may not like being their, but most believce what they are doing is right.
Art Sandusky Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 I will admit, I was surprised to see the news of this, but I'm sort of glad he went over there. I always feel that whenever any leader of any country has their forces invade another, common courtesy says to show up and look around six months or so after major hostilities have ended. And that seriously wasn't sarcastic, I was legitimately wondering when he'd finally go over there. When was the last time a US President was in Iraq, or is this the first time?
Guest Anglesault Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 When was the last time a US President was in Iraq, or is this the first time? I believe it was reported as being the first time
Guest Choken One Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 well before this...There never was a reason to go the Iraq anyways... Bush Sr wasn't gonna go there... Clinton never needed to...nor did the 40 other prezs...
Guest "Fruity" Frankie Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 If Bush made this trip solely for the purpose of seeing the troops and because he felt it was the right thing to do i might feel different about it. But all he is trying to do it get people to vote him in again.. He realizes he is losing lots of people that used to be on his side. It is all a just a bunch of Political Bullshit. And if you dont vote you have no right commenting about anything that involves Bush.
OldSchoolWrestling Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 What percentage of the time does a politician do something to try and get more votes or support? 90%?
