The OAO NHL 2003-2004 Season Thread

Burke is not the playoff goalie. This team is going to live or die on Robert Esche's watch.

Heh.

They're better off with Burke.

Robert Esche is just as good as anybody else out there save for the Brodeur class. If he would have been given the starting job from the outset of the season he would have been an allstar, he had all-star caliber numbers.

If I had to choose between Esche and Burke I'd take Esche in a heartbeat. Burke has no playoff success whatsoever, so why not go with Esche (who's a very good goalie and will likely be your goalie of the future) and hope he has a good run?

I just saw the highlights of Sens/Flyers. Insane. There were at least three massive brawls that started up after faceoffs. And that was after the first huge fight. Gotta love the sight of almost completely empty benches by the end of it.

I like Ottawa more than Philly. But even Ottawa fans must have enjoyed that game to an extent. Damn.

I'll have to wait for highlights. Ah, old time hockey.

Sather better trade someone not named Messier to Vancouver. He's already helped four of the six Canadian teams.

It'd be great to send some more players to Edmonton though. We can have all of the Canadian teams make the playoffs if Edmonton makes a run and everyone else stays put. I think it is going to help the NHL more to have well-known teams like the Habs and Oilers in the postseason than the Nashville Predators. Talk about media market size all you want. In the big picture, more people would watch the Montreal Canadiens and Edmonton Oilers in the US than the Predators.

On my Sport Select ticket tonight I have

Ottawa over wNashville

NJ over Carolina

(since I'm counting on neither to drop 2 in a row)

Buffalo to upset T.O. (considering they've done it 3 times already this season and

TO is due for another loss)

Mtl to tie LA (just because I needed a tie and thought this one would be most likely, or StL v. NYI)

A $2 wager gets me 80 bucks, so yeah, cheer for those teams.

Shit, that first period is exactly why I don't want Buffalo to make the playoffs. 3-0 and the Leafs looked like shit until they were shorthanded with about a minute left.

Holy shit, did the Habs ever get lucky tonight. LA completely and totally outplayed them. Of course, there are several reasons for that, one being that the Habs just played last night, and the other being that the Kings got away with murder all night.

A win is a win, and Montreal is 3 points behind NJ for sixth, and 7 points ahead of the Islanders

All I can say is that the Eastern Conference Playoffs will be amazing but I think that Detroit, Colorado or Vancouver will take the Cup just because the Eastern Conference teams will all be dead come the Stanley Cup Finals.

This season is all about the least expected people having amazing seasons (Raycroft, Souray, Riberio, Ryder, Bergeron, Telqvist, Kiprusoff, Legace, Abiersche, Hunter, Nash)

And there isn't really one dominate team this year either

Anyone else see Montreal overtaking New Jersey by season's end?

It can happen, but with 1-7, anything can happen.

How about Calgary, 7-1 over Colorado

Anson Carter dealt to the Kings for Jared Aulin.

source tsn.ca

Wow, if the Kings are healthy they could be scary. And it looks like Aulin won't be fucking Paris Hilton out in LA anymore, unless of course she decides to take up a residence in Washington.

Is there any hospital beds left in any LA hospital?

Good trade for the Avs. They definatly needed some toughness after taking a 7-1 beating by Calgary, but they are beating Vancouver 5-0 after one period.

The C got Marcus Nilson from Florida for a 2nd rounder.

Nilson is a good two-way player, and as someone who sees an awful lot of the Panthers, I'm sad to see him go, as it appears that Florida is giving up on this year.
