EdwardKnoxII Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 From 411 Bryan Singer In Talks To Direct X-Men 3 Posted By Ashish on 12.05.03 Director in talks, but will original cast return? Bryan Singer is in talks to direct X-Men 3, however the questions remains if the original cast will be brought back. The original stars were signed for one sequel. Bringing them all back will now be very costly and difficult due to conflicting schedules. The third X-Men movie is rumored for a 2006 release. Credit: Variety
The Dames Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 If they can't get most of the people back, then just forget about it. It would cheapen the film. You know Halle Berry doesn't want to come back. Hugh Jackman, James Marsden and Famke Janssen are essential in order for the third movie to work. Dames
Youth N Asia Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 I'd put Patrick Stewart right behind Jackman.
Yuna_Firerose Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 I heard that Alan Cumming, along with the X-Kids, are already signed on for X3. Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen are waiting to sign on till they see the script....at least that's what I read somewhere. I also heard that Ray Park [aka Toad] might be in X3, which would be cool. A fight between Nightcrawler and Toad would be awesome, in terms of special effects.
Youth N Asia Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 Didn't Toad die badly in the first one though? They gotta bring back Pyro. He was the entertaining kid. The most worthwhile thing Iceman did in 2 was get Logan's drink cold.
EdwardKnoxII Posted December 7, 2003 Author Report Posted December 7, 2003 You know Halle Berry doesn't want to come back. From what I've heard Halle will only come back if they give Storm more to do in the movie. I'd put Patrick Stewart right behind Jackman. Same here. And I've read that if they can't get Hugh Jackman the exes won't even think about making another X-Men film without him.
The Dames Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 Didn't Toad die badly in the first one though? They gotta bring back Pyro. He was the entertaining kid. The most worthwhile thing Iceman did in 2 was get Logan's drink cold. No one technically "died" in the first movie. Toad was just struck by lightning and fell into the water. Sabertooth fell through Magneto's boat. Pyro was definitely cool yes, but Iceman had more character development, in my opinion. His revealing of his mutant abilities to his parents and their disapproval, combined with the fact that his brother called the cops must have left a lasting impression on him. Plus, he did make that ice wall to protect Logan, it's not like he didn't do ANYTHING useful. Dames
Youth N Asia Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 Logan was fine with the troops...but that drink wasn't going to cool itself. Way to go Iceman!
Youth N Asia Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 God...the Iceman thing reminded me of something my friend said to me durring the movie (dunno why) He pitched the idea that Nightcrawler would teleport Prof X to out of harms way...onto a bed where the old man is BUTT ass naked and covered with rose petels. X would ask "where are we." And Nightcrawler would say "wouldn't you like to know" and put his hands to his mouth and giggle. The image alone was enough to make me laugh out loud at the theatre. ...got a weird sense of humor...don't ask.
Karnage Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 I wouldn't mind if a new guy stepped in for Cyclops. The guy who plays him is just so wooden.
Youth N Asia Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 ehh...after 2 movies I wouldn't want anyone replaced. Even their 90 year old Magneto. And Cyclops is a pretty dull character anyway.
Yuna_Firerose Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 From what I've heard Halle will only come back if they give Storm more to do in the movie. As long as the Kurt/Ororo romance or friendship is continued, I'll be happy. No one technically "died" in the first movie. Toad was just struck by lightning and fell into the water. Sabertooth fell through Magneto's boat. Exactly! There's a chance that both of them could've survived; Sabertooth more than Toad, but whatever. Sidenote about Toad's death...how could Storm create lightning to 'kill' Toad...yet not do it to Magneto? If she was able to control it for Toad, then she should've had no problem later.
Ravenbomb Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 You just hope their fight will turn into an hour long sex scene. Toad: Oops, look, I ripped your pants off. Guess we better have gay sex for an hour. *Cue 70's porn music* *Shudder* Thanks a lot, Yuna. I'll never get that image out of my head.

From what I've heard Halle will only come back if they give Storm more to do in the movie. Lessee, they'll already be paying big bucks for Stewart, Jackman and maybe McKellen to return so the question is whether they recast Storm or remove her from the story entirely...

In my last post, I mentioned that I'd like the Kurt/Storm romance continued. Gee, pardon me for mentioning that a fight between the two would be awesome.

Since it would've struck the statue dead on the bolt would've killed everyone on the statue (It's a giant copper conductor).
Kahran Ramsus Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 McKellan & Stewart have to stay. The main storyline of these films is the Xavier/Magneto conflict and their different approaches with how to deal with the human situation. It would really be awkward to recast them. Wolverine's story is done, it isn't really necessary to have him around anymore, and everyone else is relatively minor and can easily be either recasted or their characters dumped entirely. Sure I wouldn't be happy to see Stanford or Cumming go, but their characters are not vital. They can easily be replaced by Quicksilver and Beast respectively. Rogue did nothing in the last movie, and I would be happy if Berry leaves. I've seen her ruin Storm for two movies, and I have no desire to see it again.

Really, they never solved Wolverine's arc. he still knows nothing of his past. Besides, he's the most popular character in X-Men history, and a vital part of the Cyclops/Jean Grey/Wolvie love triangle. He's also the only member of the group who I'd want to see fighting guys like Juggernaut. Plus, he's the only member of the team who isn't a little bitch 90% of the time. And he's the guy who sells tickets.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 Jackman'll come back. The most high-profile thing he's done since was a stage revival of Oklahoma. I doubt they'll have trouble getting anyone but Berry back, and as was mentioned earlier, who cares? She's bored me in both of them.
starvenger Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 Really, they never solved Wolverine's arc. he still knows nothing of his past. In the comics, Wolverine STILL knows very little of his past. It's only recently that WE found out his "true" origin...

I don't know about this Bryan Singer guy though. I mean I liked Apt Pupil as much as the next guy, but what has he doen that shows he can handle a project like X-Men 3?

Dames You wasted Post 6000 on em because you didn't get a joke I made? I love it!
The Dames Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 I hate it when people get caught feeling silly but cry back with "OMG~! I was being SARCASTIC!" And for the record, just because I had 6000 posts when you read it, doesn't mean that this was the post I "wasted" it in. I posted a few more times after this. Dames
SpikeFayeJettEdBebop Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 Singer also did the EXCELLENT film The Usual Suspects (Im pretty sure)

If she was able to control it for Toad, then she should've had no problem later. I'm pretty sure lightning can't hurt Magneto. Something about the relationship between magnetism and electricity.
SamoaRowe Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 As an X-Men fan since the age of seven years old, here's my two cents... 1) Storm is not required for the next movie. I hate how Storm was portrayed in the movies, Berry made her waaaay too sassy and cold. That's not the Storm I remember from the comics and/or the tv show. 2) Mardsen as Cyclops works fine for me. Call him wooden all you want, but that's just how Cyclops is in the comic. 3) Jackman as Wolverine works perfectly, yet if they can't get him back for X3, just write him out of the movie and bring in GAMBIT! He would be a perfect replacement as a lead tough guy and if they got him right, he could be a huge draw. 4) Stewart and McKellen NEED to stay. It's too late for them to back out now. 5) Ice Man and Rogue need to be full-fledged X-Men by the next one. Maybe we can even have a Ms. Marvel (or similar character) in the movie to give Rogue some flying and super strength abilities. 6) As far as villains go, I'd really be happy if more of them showed up. I'd be curious to see Mr. Sinister and Omega Red, specifically. I'll post more when I think of it.
Guest El Satanico Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 There's no way Wolvie isn't in one of the movies. It doesn't matter if his storyline was over, Wolvie is the franchise. Of course Xavier and Magneto are more important, but Wolvie makes the money. Unless they give Storm something important to do, I won't shed a tear if Halle Berry and Storm don't return. They can easily replace the character of Storm in the film version of X-Men. She's been a background character thus far.
dubq Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 Good riddance to Halle Berry. If they keep Storm around, though, she needs to break out the old mohawk. I'd mark for that. ;P ...and X3 needs ARCHANGEL, DAMNIT!! Tell me that Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom wouldn't make a pretty rad Warren Worthington III!
starvenger Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 2) Mardsen as Cyclops works fine for me. Call him wooden all you want, but that's just how Cyclops is in the comic. The X-Men without Cyclops is like the Avengers without Captain America. The Cyclops-Marvel Girl/Phoenix-Wolverine triangle was one of the great things about Claremont's run on Uncanny. 3) Jackman as Wolverine works perfectly, yet if they can't get him back for X3, just write him out of the movie and bring in GAMBIT! He would be a perfect replacement as a lead tough guy and if they got him right, he could be a huge draw. Since when has Gambit been a "tough guy"? He's a thief with a heart of gold. Well, until the whole retcon of him working for Sinister. Anyways, he doesn't work without a female to simultaneously charm/annoy, and since they're going with a Rogue/Iceman pairing, you'd need to keep Storm. Or, you could go the comics route and deage Storm and stuff, but that gets a bit complicated... 5) Ice Man and Rogue need to be full-fledged X-Men by the next one. Maybe we can even have a Ms. Marvel (or similar character) in the movie to give Rogue some flying and super strength abilities. They're probably better off trying to keep Rogue's powers the same, again to keep things simple. 6) As far as villains go, I'd really be happy if more of them showed up. I'd be curious to see Mr. Sinister and Omega Red, specifically. Given that we're likely to get a movie version of The Phoenix/Dark Phoenix Saga, the Hellfire Club would be pretty cool.
