Just trying to see where the political standpoint on the board is. I took the political compass, wound up with -3.00 on economics, a -2.72 on Libertarian-Authoritarian.

I'm a registered Democrat, for the record.

I'm a Republican, but I'm not at all married to the party in its current form. The Republican party of today is the Democrat party of 30 years ago. I'm an economic libertarian who believes in conservative values and moral judgment.

Will be registering Democrat when I turn 18 in May so I can vote in the Democratic primaries, so yeah, Democrat here.

(New Jersey primaries are after I turn 18 on May 1st, believe it's sometime in May actually.)

I consider myself an independent.

I lean to the far left side socially and politically, but I hate the Democratic party almost as much as I do the Republican party. Nothing but a bunch of snakes in suits willing to sell out their ideals for a few extra votes.

Seconded.

I guess independant. I always vote for that one guy that is running for office so he can install a swimming pool or something in his back yard. He doesn't have any stances on the issues besides being against "Tellin people what they can and can't build on their own gawddamned property". Those are the honest guys. Besides that, I pick who ever looks most like a hippie and vote for him.

Adds Ripper to his list of future victims. Of course since you're black it's going to be considered a hate crime.

Whatever. A hippie in the white house would rule because he wouldn't really do anything. And the last president we had that basically sat on his ass and did nothing had a great economy, great relationship internationally and had a incredibly low amount of spending (once again due to the doing nothing and Republicans not letting the Dems spend as much as they wanted). Therefore, it is my theory that a weeded out cheeto eater is the best thing to vote for.

My theory is that hippies and hippie lovers should be crushed.

Isn't that a little Stalin-esque?

Yes, but honestly, with all the blatant hate against any group of people that goes on by the conservatives of this board, who's shocked?

You're doing the same thing by grouping all conservatives together like that. Think about it.

Registered Democratic because I generally think that there are larger differences between Democratic canidates for primaries.

I would however say that I am fiscally conservative and socially liberal.

I vote for whomever I think will do the best job and represent my interests the most.

I'm a self hating Democrat. ;) I pre-registered when I got my driver's license and since my family are Democrats I did the same, but since then as I've learned more about politics and followed the news I've realized I'm quite conservative and support the President. I've thought about changing parties but my dad (who's also grown more conservative) says I should stay D so I can vote in the primaries, which should be fun. Afterall, in the end I can vote for whoever I want anyway. Wheew, that's probably more than you needed to know!

Yeah, like a bunch of you, I'll register Democrat so I could vote in the primaries. When it comes right down to it, I generally stick with the Democrats more so than Republicans, but I hate labels, so draw your own conclusions.

I agree, I don't like identifying myself with a party because if anyone agrees with EVERY policy of the party, they are simply a sheep. Of course, it's worth it to join one to vote in the primaries and have even more of a choice, but otherwise it's better to identify yourself as a liberal/conservative than Democrat/Republican since that can mean so many things...

I said "conservatives on this board". That's a whole lot different than saying "all hippies in the whole planet".

I'm a fiscal conservative and social liberal. I generally vote conservative because I feel the former is more important. If I was American I would certainly vote Republican.

I have voted in three major elections.

1999 Ontario Election - PC. They saved the province from bankruptcy after the Bob Rae socialist disaster, so they diserved to finish the job.

2000 Federal Election - Alliance. Almost by default. The Federal Tories at the time were even worse than the Alliance, I can't stand Chretien, and I would NEVER vote for the commies/NDP.

2003 Ontario Election - PC. Eves wasn't nearly as good as Harris, but McGuinty's platform wasn't feasible as we are finding out now with skyrocketing Hydro rates.

I am leaning towards the Liberals in next year's Federal Election, largely because I like Paul Martin and I don't have any faith the federal conservatives. Anything good that the Liberals have done in the past ten years was done by Martin and his supporters, so I would be willing to give him a chance. At the very least, he can't be worse than Chretien.

I'm an indy, spec. leaning libertarian (the ideology, not the party) with some delineations towards the conservative side of things
