On the RF Video Shoot Interview from late 1997, Rob Van Dam confirms that he was contacted to portray the Glacier character in WCW. My question to you guys is, would the character have been more successful with RVD behind the mask? Instead of going from a superpushed future star, to a JTTS, to a joke, would this character had some staying power, and would it have been able to rise to the top with Van Dam instead of Ray Lloyd.

No, it was a bad character that was brought in too look like the biggest thing EVER. He wasn't, and it flopped.

Yeah, I don't think anything could have lived up that hype, save for maybe Kevin Nash, who was rumored to be behind the Blood Runs Cold storyline. This was of course before the NWO started.

I don't know. Had the matches not SUCKED (the first match against big boss bubba angel rogers trailer or what ever his name was at the time was HORRID and killed the crowd dead) and they didn't do the blue lights and snow during the matches...maybe.

Are you kidding???

Glacier was the greatest thing in WCW history. Screw that Ric Flair crap and those reject Horsemen or that pathetic NWO skit.

Glacier was the REAL story behind the rise of WCW.

In fact, the WWE should bring him back with the "Blood runs cold" storyline complete with snow and blue laser lights.

Glacier= ratings.

I don't think RVD's personality goes into a character like Glacier. Glacier needed to be a bad ass shit kicker, not a laid back stoner or an uninteresting, boring bland kicker like Lloyd. The gimmick itself was a little too cartoony with the Mortal Kombat inspiration to it and I think people rejected the character out of hand due to that no matter who was in the suit.

Remember when Glacier came back towards the end of WCW?

I truly loved that angle towards the end of WCW. I remember when me and my brother went to Nitro, and it was Norman Smiley v.s Mike Awesome. Glacier ran down the ring, and shook everybody's hand, even had my brother take a picture of him and some old woman. Then after the match, he runs in the ring and starts doing his little poses, then when Norman was trying to get up, he'd knock him down and continue posing.

GOLD

That is what Glacier was, pure GOLD.

They should have just went the distance though and dressed someone up like Scorpion and let them feud....granted, they used Reptile (Mortis) and Shao Khan (Wrath) but it wasn't the same without Scorpion.

So here are the REAL questions: Was Ernest Miller supposed to be Jax? And why didn't they just create a Scorpion like knock off as well?

I thought Mortis was their poor man's version for Scorpion? Hence the feud between him and Glacier.

The tight thing about Glacier though, he had a bad ass entrance.

I don't know, Mortis looked too much like Reptile for me. If the color scheme had been yellow or at least a color other than green then I would have bought him as Scorpion.

And the Glacier entrance was awesome. I wanted to go see him live just for his entrance.

Yeah my point is, with Robbie behind the mask, the matches would've been much more enjoyable. And with his move set back then being a bunch of stuff WCW fans had never really seen before, I think he would've gotten over. Kind of like he did in his first few months in the WWF.

All I remember is Glacier losing his armor and shit to Kaz Hayashi. And Lloyd coming back as a coach for Mr. Biggs on Saturday Night.

He didn't lose it, he sold it.

And the whole thing where he spoofed himself and acted like a big star when he was supposed to be a "superhero" that Norman brought it was gold, and made for a good lower-midcard angle.

I didn't really follow WCW back then.

Anyone got pictures of those involved in the Blood Runs Cold Story.

And what was the story behind it?

Be interesting to see what they looked like back then.

Cheers
