Eddie Guerrero vs Chris Benoit from 96.  Does anyone have the exact date for this match?

For WCWSN:

Jan 20 96

Mar 2 96

Mar 9 96

The gem of the WCWSN matches though is Nov 25 1995. Benoit vs Eddie with one of the most believable finishers of all time. The finish works well too because it shows how desparate wrestler A wanted to beat wrestler B after the hard fought battle. There's a sequence of moves in this match which starts with Benoit irish whipping Eddie to the turnbuckle and ending with Benoit clotheslining Eddie which just may be my favourite sequence of moves ever. Very smart and exciting series of moves here (although not too long but that's kind of the beauty of it) with Eddie and Benoit playing a game of oneupmanship and both wrestlers displaying moves/counters not seen at the time which gives Eddie and Benoit a sense of superior intelligence to the viewer. That translates into the sequence of moves where you can just "hear" Benoit and Eddie talking to each other trying to out smart their opponent. At the end where Benoit clotheslines Eddie he sells the whole sequence beautifully by just having that look of desparation around him. Benoit and Eddie here despite being newcomers are already getting a pretty good reaction from the crowd. The man in the buisness suit watching the match in particular is one of my favourite fans of all time as it appears he hasn't watched too much wrestling before but literally jumps out of his seat for at least one of the pinning predicaments. I know there are at least some other fans who stand up and applaud afterwards as well. There are some real good pin attempts in here too. The kind where it looks believable that is someone is actually trying to win the match. I don't want to ruin anymore of this match but I reccomend for everyone to watch as it's the kind of match everyone and their brother would like.

Cole Twins vs Harlem Heatless was a "guilty pleasure" match for me back in 93

H.Heat switched places while the one of the Coles were hurt, the ref caught them, made them switch, while all 3 were distracted, the Coles switched, T was rolled up 1-2-3! I loved it!

Back when I was 9 I got into WCW by following the Scorpio & Bagwell vs. Nasty Boys fued. IIRC The Nasties beat them every week but Scorpio and Bagwell came a little closer every week until they finally pulled it off.

Yeah and then only to lose the WCW Tag Team Titles back to The Nasty Boys the next at WCW Halloween Havoc 1993 which just annoyed me.

Thanks.

Know any reliable tape dealers who have these?

Also, how would you compare it to their 1995 and 1996 Top of the Super Juniors matches in NJPW?

Thanks.

I was trying to find the site I was going to reccomend but my searches have come up nil. It's where I got several rare, fun WCW matches from the lesser known shows such as Worldwide, Prime, WCWSN and so on. I assume he might not be selling anymore since the last time I ordered from him I noticed he hadn't updated his site in a while. Excellent quality too.

I think (not sure anymore) I initially got the match from www.johnmcadam.com. It should be on tape J1655. Now I must say I've ordered from McAdam a few times and I think I had problems twice but I do believe they were honest mistakes. One time it was two tapes out of a bunch with "nothing" on them. The other time I don't remember. The quality on the tape is good and certainly very watchable but if you're someone who's looking for Highspots or triplecrowntapes.com quality you might want to stay away.

As for the quality of the match itself, it's the best of the WCW and the WWF/WWE matches they've had. It's more of a New Japan style match than the previous mentioned WCW or WWE matches. I'm trying not to give too much away here but it's not on par with the 1996 BOSJ match although I felt Benoit and Eddie were as on here as they were on there. 1995?* Haven't watched it in a while to be able to compare. Saturday Night is better than the rescent PPV match and the 1994 J Cup match for me so we're looking at some good stuff here.

Check google.ca for Benoit vs Guerrero if you don't want to order from McAdam. I know other people must have this match but you have to be careful because at the end of the WCWSN year they had a recap show where they show some of the Benoit vs Eddie bout in highlight form.

Some other fine Benoit vs Eddie in WCW

Their first Nitro match -- Awesome stuff with Benoit and Eddie hitting their moves more swiftly than anyone ever has. Also had the most lethal powerbomb of all time. Done New Japan stlye as well.

"Rare" Worldwide/Prime? bout --

Actually, all of it was pretty swell. The only thing that wasn't up to their usual standards was a match where they were both selling crippling storyline injuries on Nitro and a Thunder match which didn't have enough time to amount to anything.

*There's another 1995 New Japan bout between Benoit and Eddie in the Super Jr. Tournament. 7/4/95. It's on a commercial release. Best of the Super Juniors II is the tape name I believe. Lorfice gave it 4 1/2 stars. Great stuff*

Ric Flair vs. Brian Pillman- February 1990.

That's one match I'd love to see but I don't have. How good is it? I heard they had two matches around that time period.

There was a Sting/Steamboat vs. Flair/Austin match from 94 I believe that was pretty good.

Also, I don't remember how good it was, but I was shocked when Rhodes & Windham beat Gordy & Dr. Death for the tag titles as Doc & Gordy had just been beating the shit out of all their opponents prior to that.

I loved Scorpio & Bagwell. Those were some really fun matches.

Brad Armstrong Vs. The Great Muta, late 1992. Good stuff.

Chris Jericho regaining the WCW Cruiserweight Title from Alex Wright in 1997, I believe. WCW SN Title changes just didn't happen, anymore. It'd be like Orton dropping the I-C belt on Heat. Anyway, I've always been a HUGE Jericho mark and I was SHOCKED when I read the WCW SN tapings (remember those!) and read he won. In Columbus, Ohio or something?

BARRY WINDHAM VS. STEVE AUSTIN, Windham wins WCW TV Title. AWESOME stuff.

The NWO Saturday Night stuff was neat.

Gert T, also, Nikita Koloff defeated Larry Z in mid 1992 on WCW SN in 2 straight falls, which was the "final straw" for Larry getting booted from the Alliance, shortly after his other blunder in War Games in May.

Austin's TV title reign, the 1st one, was pretty great, eh?

Yes! And the payoff of losing so decisively was satisfying, considering he'd been a heel skinning by with the title for close to 11 months.
