The sick moments

Recommended Posts

I'm talking about those moments in wrestling that aren't injuries (like Sid or Eddy or Mass Transit), but those moments that no matter how much you know about the sport, still make you cringe.

I nominate the chairshot Ken Shamrock took square on the face in Spring 98 from the Rock on RAW.

I was pissed at Rock for a good while after that Rumble match. I felt he was very unprofessional with the shots he was giving (not surprisingly, so was Mick).

Nick Mondo's weedwhacker shot at Tournament of Death I. The "THWACK" that the whacker makes with his stomach is gut-wrenching.

Agreed. There really is no other word to explain that kid other than "sick."

Speaking of which, it's been a while since I've seen that. Anyone know where to download it?

HitC I...HBK gets tossed over the top rope, his feet hit the cage, and he comes down hard on his hip and side. Looks so brutal.

Oh, and when HBK's feet hit the top of the cage on a back body drop, making HBK fall almost straight down. Shame the version on the 'Taker DVD has it from a bad angle.

Oh, and a good chop. Like, the kind that leaves handprints. Like, the handprints where you can see each individual finger.

at his website (www.nickmondo.com) there used to be a link to a retirement highlight reel of sorts. on there is both the "weedwhacker" incident from TOD 1 (i believe in slow motion, albeit without the disgusting sound), as well as the insane, insane bump he and Zandig took at TOD 2.

Also don't be afraid to bring up lesser known ones (I mean yes everyone knows Foley in HITC and RR 99, But you might not automatically think of him taking the bump in Halloween Havoc 93 where Vader fell back onto him onto the wooden ramp, the one Foley was hoping would end his career).

Nevermind, I just thought of my favorite/least favorite.

1997 Fall Brawl - War Games - Curt Hennig slamming the cage door on Ric Flair's head as Mongo and Benoit are cuffed to the cage being beaten and taunted, turning his back on not only Ric Flair personally, but also on The 4 Horsemen.

In all of my life of watching Pro. Wrestling, that single moment is the most sickest, disgusting thing that I have ever seen in the industry. I'm not saying it LOOKS all that bad (it was pretty rough though), but when you add everything together, the emotion of the moment, the cage door shot, and how much it REALLY pissed me off (pissed off in terms of me REALLY hating a heel and what he had just done), this moment tops the list for me.

I've never been as angry, in a mark way, over anything else.

It's one of the best/worst moments in wrestling history to me.

-When Chyna slammed the cage door on Foley's head at SummerSlam '97. Absolutely brutal, and it says something when Foley himself said that was one of the most painful things he's ever felt in wrestling.

-Undertaker's chair shot on Maven at RR '02. Maven took it like a man and it was a sickening shot.

Sid's powerbomb on Brian Pillman at Wargames 91. I'm not sure if that was a fuck-up or just Sid being Sid.

Matt Hardy at Summerslam 2000. Someone pushes the ladder BACKWARDS, causing Matt Hardy to fall through two tables without any means of protecting himself.

Oz vs. Bill Kazmaier at Halloween Havoc 91. Whoever booked that one has a sick mind.

In all seriousness, Hennig slamming the door on Flair's head pissed me off to no end, to the point that I still can't watch the tape without getting angry.

My pick would probably be one of two Foley bumps. Either the chair shots he took against The Rock at Royal Rumble 99 (not really a bump, I know), or the Nestea Plunge at Clash of the Champions X, made famous by Jim Cornette's classic call on commentary:

"Cactus Jack is dead!"

Is that the one where he took Pillman up, slamed him head first on the top of the cage and dropped him on his head?

I don't remember for sure, but I think he dropped him on the back of his head.

What was the Mass Transit incident?

Long story short...

ECW needed a replacement for a match, and this kid (Mass Transit) says that he's trained, that he's like, 22, and all that good stuff. So Paul E. puts him in the ring with New Jack.

Problem: He wasn't trained, nor was he 22. He was about 17, and New Jack realized this while he was in the ring with him.

So New Jack BEAT THE PISS OUT OF HIM, and then bladed him. Now, this was supposed to happen; what wasn't supposed to happen was New Jack gouging the kid's head open with an exacto knife and causing to bleed so much it's not even funny.

He ended up suing ECW, and I forget who won, but that's the barebones story off the top of my head.

Oh, to get back on topic...'Taker chokeslamming Spike all the way to the floor. No table, no nothing, just FLOOR.

Oh, and about every single time Mike Awesome ever powerbombed him.

And that one German suplex Awesome gave Spike that LITERALLY sent him across the ring. Like, they started two steps back from one corner, and Spike ended up under the ropes on the other side of the ring. And I mean diagonally, not just the length of the ropes.

Undertaker vs Brock. Taker gigs deep and bleeds heavily. IIRC, the sick moment comes when Taker's cut squirts directly into Brock's mouth after a failed pinfall attempt.

At the XPW show Exit the Sandman, I absolutely cringed when Alterboy Luke when flying off the scaffold and went through the merch table. No other cushioning. And then, to top that, Supreme picks up the Hardcore Homo Angel and hits something very close to the World's Strongest Slam off the same scaffold through another set of tables, and pretty much killed the poor kid.
