5_moves_of_doom 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2004 The Very Best of Talk Talk Hard to see when it'll get played though, what with Journey being next to it. 'Be Good To Yourself' is starting to really grow on me as well, just because the intro reminds me of Andrew WK. More so than the others. Stop listening to the Journey and tell me how the Talk Talk is. Everyone keeps saying "Talk Talk Talk Talk Talk Talk!" and I've just been afraid to listen to them simply because I really have no idea what they're about and they never seem to have that one album that everyone raves about in stock, but this is the final straw. If you give it a thumbs up as well, I might just give in. Anyway, uhm, I got that new Miles Davis Electric DVD, and the new live Primus DVD, which are both fantastic... and then Nick Drake's first album, which is also fantastic... and then the Joanna Newsome album, which I haven't listened to yet because I JUST FOUND MY OLD NEW RADICALS CD!!!!! And it's so bad, but I'm LISTENING TO IT NON-STOP ANYWAY!!!!!

Henry Spencer 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2004 I have Laughing Stock by Talk Talk. It's pretty and pleasant, but nothing revolutionary or earth-shattering like I had heard it was supposed to be.
Henry Spencer 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2004 ...although thinking about it, I may need to give it a closer listen later tonight. I didn't like Spiderland or Unknown Pleasures at first either, until I sat down and listened to them in a dark room.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted December 26, 2004 Frank Zappa - Chunga's Revenge I don't have that one. What's notable on it? Disk 1 is awesomeness, specifically Zomby Woof. Disk 2 is not so awesome, but still better than a lot of music nowadays. The studio version of that song is still my favorite. The solo has so many intentionally awkward wavering squawks and squeals to it. Drunken swaying back and forth on the percussion. It's on a lot of live cds, it seems. PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2004 Not doing this deliberately, but the Journey is far better than Talk Talk. You might prefer Talk Talk, due to being WR0NG, but objectively, it's only ok really. I prefer Japan.
Henry Spencer 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2004 I got Dark Side Of The Moon, The Ramones' s/t, and Rocket To Russia on vinyl, along with a record player, for Christmas. Sweet.

Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2004 Once you've had Journey, everything else sounds like ash. There's no shame in being runner-up to the boys.

B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2004 The following were purchased with gift cards that I received form my brother and sister for Christmas: Gwen Stefani- Love, Angle, Music, Baby Matthew Sweet- Gold and Platinum Collection Blackaliscious- A2G EP GZA- The Legend of the Liquid Sword Modest Mouse- Everywhere and His Nasty Parlour Tricks Bad Brains- I Against I I'm LOVING Gwen's album. It's so New Wave that it's sick. If the album were released in say, 1985 or '86, it would have sold 20 million copies.

DCMaximo 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2004 Enjoying the warm X-mas afterglow that is the sales, I picked up the following for £5 each: "Boyhitscar" by Boyhitscar "The Remote Part" by Idlewild "Blackened Sky" by Biffy Clyro "Lipstick Traces: A Secret History Of" by the Manic Street Preachers

ArkhamGlobe 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2004 Frank Zappa - Chunga's Revenge I don't have that one. What's notable on it? I've so far only had the chance to listen through it once, but so far my impression is that it's pretty fun and good stuff throughout, though the only track that really stood out for me on first listen was the title track. As for recent purchases, today I picked up Elvis Costello's Trust and Miles Davis' Facets used on vinyl.
Henry Spencer 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2004 I don't care that you guys are joking, just stop with the whole Journey/Talk Talk shit. Jesus. You're partially responsible. Once you came out of the closet and admitted you like Journey, the music folder hasn't been the same.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2004 One day, you'll realize it's okay to like bands played on classic rock radio. I mean, if you wanna continue the whole lumping-together-two-bands-who-have-no-business-being-lumped-together thing, I'd rather listen to Journey than the Arcade Fire any day of the week. PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2004 I keep waking up with my face stuck to my discman and my headphones round my throat, and yes, it's always Journey in there. Or The Only Ones. If that's not a recommendation...
Henry Spencer 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2004 One day, you'll realize it's okay to like bands played on classic rock radio. Hey, if you'll notice, I've kept my mouth shut on the whole Journey business up until now.

Guest JebusNassedar Report post Posted December 30, 2004 Frank Zappa - Over-nite Sensation Frank Zappa - Apostrophe Over Nite Sensation is pretty good. Apostrophe is fantastic, though.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2004 I upgraded my copy of Brian Eno's Another Green World to the fancy remaster released earlier this year. The sound quality has definitely improved.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2004 And re: Talk Talk, I like both of their "Serious Art" albums, Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock, but neither are particularly mindblowing. In fact, they just sound like what Peter Gabriel would if he didn't care about pop music at all.

Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2004 Found one fine deal today: $7 used, pretty much perfect condition. I've wanted a copy of this for a while. Tomorrow I hopefully go and blow some Christmas cash, though I'm probably going to have to order most of what I want. The Wedding Present, Wire, Husker Du, and Pulp are all under consideration, with a little room left for ODB.
Henry Spencer 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2004 The first time I listened to that Yo La Tengo album, I had an unbearable migraine headache, and thus was unable to pay close attention to it. I've avoided it since then, because just thinking about it gives me a headache again.
tekcop 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2004 Since all these people seem to be posting pictures... I shall be sheepish and do the same. This is really awesome. I haven't had much time to listen to it outisde of my car, but I really love the whole atmospheric feel. As of right now this isn't getting any play time. Mostly because of the Nile CD, but even without it I don't think I'd be listening to it much. I don't really dislilke it... it's just not something I can listen to for very long without getting bored.
PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2004 Edwin, I must lobby for Pulp, the greatest band my native Sheffield will ever produce unless I miraculously become good. Start with His 'n' Hers if you're not already familiar. And of course, Wire are the best punk band ever.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2004 I'm pretty familiar with Pulp, but only This Is Hardcore and Different Class, and I only own a copy of the latter. Needs more Jarvis. I actually just ordered a copy of the Wire box set for $35. It's the UK remasters of the first three albums, and I've had an awful time actually finding a copy of Chairs Missing anywhere, so it's on it's way.
