Recent Purchases

Recommended Posts

I have loads of questionable stuff in my collection that I've bought for whatever reason (probably on vinyl, because it had something on it I liked and was dirt cheap).

As for yesterday purchases, I found the following used on vinyl:

Ravel - Le Bolero

Dvorak - Symphony from the New World

Bruckner - Symphony no. 9

Stravinsky - Orpheus

Leonard Cohen - Songs of Leonard Cohen

What did all this go for? 25 swedish crowns, roughly $3.5. I think I made a nice find.

"The Holy Bible-10 Year Anniversary Edition" by the Manics- worth the repurchase for the US mix of the album and the DVD footage of "Faster" on Top Of The Pops

"Bona Drag" by Morrissey

"Tails" by Lisa Loeb and Nine Tails- having watched Reality Bites far too much over the last few weeks, I felt this undefendable urge to buy this album. Also gave me the chance to use up my HMV vouchers, along with the Morrissey album above

"Trout Mask Replica" by Captain Beefheart- found it for £5 and realised I really should own it by now.

tori amos - scarlet's walk

not as bad as i thought it would be. but certainly nothing terribly special, and it sure as fuck didn't need to be over 74 minutes long. i think she's been going through some kind of mid-life crisis since about 2001 where she takes on these big projects convinced she's doing something really daring and thoughtful, when in reality she's had less and less to say since 'choirgirl'.

the arcade fire - funeral

only listened to it once so far, and it kinda went right through me. i like the lyrics in a big simplistic peter pan/flaming lips kind of way.

coltrane - my favorite things

GZA - liquid swords

as i was walking out of the virgin megastore with my purchases, i saw a bunch of writing on the store doors that said "RZA today 2 p.m." it was a little after 3, apparently i just missed him. evidently i was being punished for getting the GZA instead of the RZA.

MIsery Index -- Retaliate

I haven't listened to it yet, but I figure I'll enjoy it since I'm a Dying Fetus fan. I downloaded "Great Depression" a few weeks back and thought it was alright. I listened to "Angst Isst Die Seele Auf" on Snake Metal Radio and really liked it so....

I like them very much, but Liquid Swords has some intangibles going on. I occasionally get a little tired of the Ghostface/Raekwon/Cappadonna team-ups on the other albums, even though they really are awesome.

I got Nick Drake's Pink Moon. Been meaning to get a Drake album for awhile; the wait was worth it.

Hey, that's a good one. I like it the best even though it varies in style quite a bit from his other two, which I loved.

I got the anniversary edition of Nas' Illmatic, LL Cool J's Mama Said Knock You Out and Planet Funk's Non Zero Sumness today. I had MSKYO years ago (might have been the first rap album I ever bought, actually) but lost track of it. It's as good as I remember.

$10 for the 2-disc Pavement reissue, $8 for the Dolls. Good day.

Good day indeed. Circuit City has the reissue of the Pavement album, and it's like $20, and Sam Goody charges nearly $30 for it. It's a bit pricy, but I think I'm gonna have to shell out the kale anyway.
