Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Report post Posted January 22, 2004 ET has learned that BEN AFFLECK and JENNIFER LOPEZ are Bennifer no more. Today, a representative for Lopez told ET, "I am confirming the reports that Jennifer Lopez has ended her engagement to Ben Affleck. At this difficult time, we ask that you respect her privacy." Next week's Us magazine is reporting the particulars of the breakup. The tumultuous 18-month romance purportedly ended Jan. 20, just three days after Ben returned to Los Angeles from the Sundance Film Festival. The decision was reportedly mutual. One reason for the final demise of the relationship is said to be Jennifer's desire to settle down and have a baby. Another, according to Us, was her chagrin at Ben's partying ways. The latest incident cited was Ben and pal MATT DAMON's night out in Berlin, where the two were photographed being admired by a bevy of women. Fascination with the couple's status began to surface nearly two years ago. In July of 2002, less than two months after Jen's split with husband No. 2 was announced, Ben threw Jen a party for her 33rd birthday and presented her with a HARRY WINSTON bracelet of yellow and gold diamonds. When Ben proposed in the fall, he left no romantic stone unturned. He took her to his mom's Boston-area home, which was decorated with rose petals. Jen's music was playing in the background. He then began to read a letter detailing the reasons why he loved her before getting down on one knee and presenting her with the famous 6-carat, pink-diamond, engagement ring. Ben and Jen, as you'll recall, were supposed to tie the knot Sept. 14 on the California coast, but abruptly canceled their plans just days before the ceremony. Despite the couple's efforts to keep the wedding under wraps by having vendors sign confidentiality agreements and refusing to tell the 400 guests the location of the event, details of the celebration began to leak at a break-neck pace. As news spread, hotel rooms in and around the usually quiet seaside town of Santa Barbara, CA, were sold out as the media moved in. Then, four days before the wedding, the couple confirmed they were delaying their nuptials and blamed the intense media scrutiny for their decision. In a joint statement, they said, "Due to the excessive media attention surrounding our wedding, we have decided to postpone the date. When we found ourselves seriously contemplating hiring three separate 'decoy brides' at three different locations, we realized that something was awry. We felt what should have been a joyful and sacred day could be spoiled for us, our family and our friends." Insiders led ET to believe that Jennifer personally made the calls to advise guests and was said to be very upset and difficult to understand through her tears. syxx2001 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2004 "Money changes a man quicker than J-Lo" - Lloyd Banks or Fabolous I, for one, am glad. Im sick of goons much like yourselves complain about the media and every person on Earth talking about the two, then you turn around and make some kind of joke or comment that mentions the couple. Its just stupid. It was like some joke on Leno when he was like "And here we go again, Ben and Jen. Am I the only one sick of these two?" If you are sick of them, don't mention their fucking names. Im just happy I finally have a second chance. Or 3rd.
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2004 I liked Ben in Changing Lanes which I believe was pre-JL so here's hoping he returns to doing decent-good(depending upon your view) films.

Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 23, 2004 eh this isn't a big deal to me. They could've stayed together for 50 years and I wouldn't have had a problem with it. I rarely watch entertainment news shows, so my mind never absorbed so much media hype about her and them that it made me hate her and them. Watching too much of those entertainment news shows will rot your brain. More people need to realize this and stop watching those vile shows.
LivingLegendGaryColeman 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2004 Well, from what I heard, Ben himself felt he was overexposed. He complained and was tired of seeing himself everywhere. I think if they really had true feelings for each other, it is a shame what the press can do. If it still was pretty iffy, that's good, because with J. Lo's track record, Affleck seemed like he was looking for trouble.

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2004 Wow, a J-Lo relationship didn't work out. The sad thing is now all they will talk about is JENNIFER IS SINGLE. And considering how Ben ripped apart J-Lo on The Daily Show, I can't say I'm shocked.

Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 23, 2004 I just can't understand why people make a big deal out of her being engaged two or three times and married once. It's not like she's the only celebrity to do such things.
Steve J. Rogers 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2004 I just can't understand why people make a big deal out of her being engaged two or three times and married once. It's not like she's the only celebrity to do such things. Actually there is more than that. She definatly has a serial bride thing going. I agree that the whole relationship and hype was more a media creation than anything that the "public" wanted. Its obvious that she craves attention more than Affleck does I almost feel bad for Jersey Girl and Kevin Smith as most of the "mass pop-culture audience" will see it more of a "Gigli II" than anything Also the other problem is with the "mass pop culture audience" that hates Affleck is that the anti-Affleck/Lopez crowd will distort everything about there relationship Couple of points towards that: Heard on Jim Rome's radio show about how all Affleck films have bombed since hooking up with Lopez, including DareDevil, one problem, DareDevil was made BEFORE Affleck and Lopez first met on the set of Smith's Jersey Girl (See the Smith "An Evening With Kevin Smith" for a funny story about that and one hell of a classic Smith-Affleck punchline) and the other is that people will think Lopez was completly cut out of Jersey Girl despite what the original script (which will be available knowing Kevin Smith and View Askew) and such will bare out and they were only left with stuff that couldn't get cut, as it always stood, Lopez is only in 15 minutes of the film and people will look at that like "Well the movie obviously was editied because Affleck-Smith want nothing to do with Lopez" Whatever though, sure people will believe what they want to believe. I'm sure now the "entertainment media" will try to use the Taylor-Burton angle and drum up something everytime they are in the same room together or some shit. "J-Lo was seen glancing over at Ben Affleck who was in mid converation with Matt Damon at the Golden People's E! Global Academy Choice Awards Dinner...Could Lopez be re-thinking the whole Beneffier affair?" To those stories I say this: Steve

Whatever, the point is that she's not the first celebrity to do such things and she won't be the last. It's just stupid to rake her over the coals like she's the only one doing it in Holywood. Besides being married once(Judd) and engaged once(Affleck) doesn't make her a "serial bride".

Besides being married once(Judd) and engaged once(Affleck) doesn't make her a "serial bride". She also is easy to knock though. Someone who goes through boyfriends and fiances like they were tissues Someone who craves the spotlight like it was a drug Someone who likes to portray herself as a "down to earth Jenny from the Block" when in reality she is a complete Hollywood diva Someone who has literally no sense of reality Sure she isn't the only diva who does this (and obviously it goes without saying that there are plenty in the male gender who are this way) but she does get alot more attention (mostly because she is a media whore) than others I think its all about deconstructing someone who built herself up a certain way but has since proven that all she had was a house of cards, and she doesn't realize it. In otherwords, keep trying to give her a reality check that what she does ISN'T right, and showing people who worship her that "Look at this piece of trash that you idolize, she is nothing but a piece of shit" Steve

People look at a woman who has had at least three serious OMG LOVES OF HER LIFE over the course of five years and they think that's a TAD absurd. It doesn't matter how many people do it, she's the most high profile.
Guest wrestlingbs Report post Posted January 24, 2004 Jennifer Lopez is hot and all, but man does that woman destroy all the men she goes through.
