I was looking around Amazon.com and they have up the cover for the Monday Night War. It's kinda simple looking but works:

It comes out this Tuesday.

Anyone know the DVD's contents?

According to highspots.com

The year: 1995

the promotors: Vince McMahon and Eric Bischoff

The companies: WWE and WCW

- Ladies and Gentlemen - The Monday Night War!

This incredible story of Raw vs. Nitro charts the many chapters including the nWo, McMahon vs. Austin, D-X invading WCW, Flair returning to WCW, and much more!

Among those interviewed for the DVD include Vince McMahon, Eric Bischoff, Gene Okerlund, Ric Flair, Jim Cornette, Rey Misterio Jr, Gerald Brisco, and Bruce Pritchard. Interesting to note is that Flair says he was so happy the day WCW closed, he couldn't stand it.

The awesome DVD extras include matches such as:

-Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels vs. WWF World tag team champions Davey Boy Smith and Owen Hart (Austin and Michaels win titles, from Raw, 5/26/97) *****

-WCW U.S. champion Goldberg vs. WCW World champion Hulk Hogan (Goldberg wins title, from Nitro, 7/6/98)

-Shawn Michaels & Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs. the Legion of Doom (from RAW)

-Chris Benoit vs. Booker T (from Nitro)

Vince McMahon-"We need to find out all of the dirt that went on inside the WCW offices, so who should we get that would have known all of the happenings behind closed doors?"

Jim Ross-"Rey Mysterio Jr.!"

Hopefully, they'll add a couple of more matches onto that DVD, maybe the final WCW match between Ric Flair and Sting, and maybe some highlights from Bill Goldberg's undefeated streak leading up to the Hollywood Hogan match. They should also add highlights of all of the matches between Booker T and Chris Benoit in their best of seven series. Wonder which of their matches will end up being on the DVD in full? Is their any reasoning behind the two tag team matches from Raw is War being on the DVD?

Why the hell is that on there? I don't remember it being anything bad, but other than the post-match beatdown on LOD (which didn't mean much in the long run, since they were buried anyway), there really wasn't anything memorable about it.

Legal reasons, I'm sure.

Plus, the preview the for the DVD shows Bischoff talking about how much of an ass he was, so it's going to focus more on his business dealings than Turner just wanting to destroy the WWF.

I would have bought the DVD if they included the PPV thing where Bischoff called out Vince to a fight and had Vince counted out and himself declared the winner of the match.

Of course, you know that would never make it on a WWE released DVD.

:hm:

Isn't that the same picture of Vince that is used on the Vince/Hogan WrestleMania cover?

To be fair, Joe: Who could give better insight into the way the Cruisers were in WCW then Rey? AND he's already on them roster.

Oh and if you say Konnan I will destroy you. ;)

I'll end up buying this, if not just for Austin/HBK vs. Owen/Bulldog and Benoit/Booker (which one?). Hopefully they'll throw in some stuff about the cruiserweights too.

No.

Hopefully there's more actual...you know..._matches_.

I'm guessing HBK/HHH vs. LOD is on there for the start of DX or something like that? They'll talk about how that helped shift the tides and let them beat WCW in the end, or something like that.

I hope there's a _TON_ of extras. If so, I'll buy it. If not...too bad.

No.

All it has is Flair's promo that kinda sets up Invasion and says WCW will never go down, and the wrestlers will keep fighting to keep WCW going and they're the greatest promotion in the world, etc.

How much do you wanna bet Turner would sue the WWE up the wazzu if his mug ever showed up on a WWE product?

Yup. Blast WWE's recycling pictures method!

Cornette commentary! Cornette commentary!

*marks right the f*** out and hopes that the DVD pops up to rent rather than buy*

Without Bret vs Benoit, it just doesn't feel complete. Would Bret have cried about a match of his being released on a WWE DVD, even though it's the best match in Nitro history, and would be portrayed as such on the DVD?

Other than Cornette's rants, I don't really see any reason to pick this up.

That's a good looking DVD. All the segments are stuff that I would expect to be on there. I would possibly have included a few other things like Bischoff giving away the results of matches on the air, X-Pac's return to the WWF, etc. but that lineup looks pretty solid.

Bret vs. Benoit wasn't really about the WAR, the trying to out do each other. It was about honoring Owen. I can't see doing that segment without talking about Owen, and that seems out of place in a DVD called MONDAY NIGHT WARS.

review:

The Monday Night War

For whatever reason, this DVD was being sold at my local FYE a couple weeks ago, USED. How can it be used, before it was sold? I don't know. Anyway, it's a really great DVD (if I can get my scanner to work I'll post the chapters), but here's the low-down.

The actual DVD has a variety of people who were in the War (Bischoff, McMahon, Brisco, Various Superstars) as well as a narrator to start us of. He gives updates on how WCW was so bad in '89 and RAW was created. Anyhoo, then they get to the good stuff.

An intresting story actually, on how Bischoff got Nitro. I wouldn't ruin it for you, but they then set up the two shows and showed a littel bit of highlights.

The first main thing they talk about is the Outsiders defection to the WCW, they should highlights of stuff leading up to their match and then they show highlights of the match and a little bit of NWO footage thereafter with The Giant. They also added in the Women's Title in the trash and Bischoff explains it a lot. Another thing they add is Bischoff reading RAW's spoilers.

Then, they do a lot of early Austin stuff with the Attitude, not a lot of the famous things though. It starts right after Dibiase left, featuring his KOTR promo and then his feud with Owen.

It cuts back to WCW and how the NWO had a bajillion members. Intresting thing here is The Radicalz and Jericho say this is when they started to feel frustrated, it was middle 1998. Jericho said he decided he was going to head for the WWF in the summer of 1998. Really good stuff here. To finish that up they show how Bischoff's live was so hectic dealing with everything. They give him mad props though.

The DVD basically ends with clips of Big Show, Jericho and then The Radicalz jumping to the WWF. A major shot at Russo and Ferrera on how they sucked and had to bring Bischoff back. Then, they talked about how Bischoff tried to buy the company, but wouldn't get a TNT timeslot. Then, they go over the Last Nitro and that's that.

Extras:

HBK/HHH vs. LOD

HBK/Steve Austin vs. British Bulldog and Owen Hart

Goldberg vs. Hulk Hogan (in Atlanta, when Goldberg wins the Gold)

Booker T. vs. Chris Benoit (Match IV in their series)

They show the Schivone/Foley thing

Last Nitro confidiental thing

A Jim Cornette shoot on RAW in '97 where he attacked and praised both companies

DX invading WCW (I think I missed this in the review but there was little bit on this in the actual DVD as well)

Vince McMahon's "Bret Screwed Bret" Interview

NWO messing with the production truck during a live WCW match

Eric Bischoff challenges Vince McMahon to a match

Rick Rude on both shows

Ric Flair returning to WCW

There may be a couple more but that's about it.

Overall, this DVD does not attack WCW or favor WWE. It was done, honestly and overall was done really good. However, they could have added more extras, but it was solid. A- from me. Anyway questions, post 'em and I'll get to 'em!
