Spicy McHaggis 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2004 Not to mention the fact that you'd expect an intelligent homosexual to be more tolerant to other races than the average Joe... You people are hilarious. It's the French. THE FRENCH.
Guest Danny Dubya v 2.0 Report post Posted February 11, 2004 WHAT WOULD Pat Buchanan SAY?! Well, his very loud-spoken and only supporter on TSM, RobJohnstone, got banned quite a while ago. So I suggest you do a search of some sort for Rob's posts and then you can see right on here what Pat Buchanan has to say about it.
Hoff 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2004 Am I the only person curious as to how a Lesbian woman with a "wife"(I don't know if their marriage is legally binding thus I put that) can be a republican working in a government branch of operation? I mean you would think some of those things would cancel out the others. WHAT WOULD Pat Buchanan SAY?! Edit: I have nothing against Marney but this situation boggles the mind. It's entirely possible for a person to mainly identify with one party, but have some conflicting views. I'm a Republican (a fairly middle-of-the-road one) against the death penalty. A good friend of mine is a moderate liberal who favors looser gun laws. It's just how it is sometimes. Add that once your sexuality is established, some would argue that is impossible to change, and I don't think it's so hard to see at all.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted February 11, 2004 Good food, good women. I'm indifferent to partisan politics, etc. Therefore, I don't mind the french. I even maintain a high-school level mastery of the language.

Adam 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 Its a hard subject, but I know if people came in here and just started randomly bashing the Americans and their arrogance, I know that person would be ridiculed to hell. It shits me sometimes how people with extreme views can't see the bigger picture, but that's why I don't visit the CE folder, because I have been told by countless posters that its one big patriotic american party. But I'm Australian, so I couldn't really give a fuck about it, and if I shared my views I know I would be shot down in a blaze of glory, so why bother? Dr. Tom 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 Other people from Australia post in CE and share their views. The only people who have problems are the folks who, regardless of their opinions, simply spout rhetoric with no ability to back it up. Sure, if everything you post can be summed up as "OMG AMERICA IZ TEH DEVIL~!!1!!!!11!!" then you'll BUTT heads with more than a few folks (and have at least one cretin on your side), but that's about it. Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 Interesting question. If you present your opinion as fact, then yes. If you're like me, no.
Guest The Satanic Angel Report post Posted February 12, 2004 To me, the sentiment in C.E. seems to lean more toward anti-anyone-who-doesn't-agree-with-certain-people. I could have a different opinion, state it as such, and be labeled a bigot or naive. I don't stereotype people for having a different opinion, yet it's commonplace in C.E. Guest JMA Report post Posted February 12, 2004 Sure. But don't blame me if, after my third Guinness, I knock you on your ass. Question: How exactly would you "knock me" on my ass? You don't even know me. Seems kind of illogical and immature. Besides, if you can't take someone making fun of YOUR culture (which does have its flaws) perhaps you shouldn't make fun of other cultures. Quite frankly, I'm tired of caring about what anyone thinks. I'm past that.

I could have a different opinion, state it as such, and be labeled a bigot or naive. In my time there, it seems to be more geared towards 2 groups (left & right), neither of which really listens to the others arguments and thinks about them, but more or less sticks to what they've always thought. But it is fun stuff to argue about.

k thx 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 The problem with CE is that almost all the most prominent posters are Republican.
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 The problem with CE is pretty clear. If you don't agree with the majority, you're screwed. And nobody cares to enforce the rules in there so it ends up as a Flaming Folder Lite by the end of alot of threads.

It's pretty obvious he was taking a gentle shot at his own cultural stereotypes in the reply -- namely the one that says that all Irismen are drunks who like to fight. As for what Dames thinks of CE, he's the one who posted the disclaimer we had. If it's gone AWOL after the board upgrade, I can always put it back.
Dr. Tom 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 Is it necessary to back up opinions with fact? Curious. If you want people to take you seriously, yes. An opinion alone is worthless. You can think anything you want, but unless you're able to defend your position, no one will give two pins what you say, really.

You can think anything you want, but unless you're able to defend your position, no one will give two pins what you say, really. I dunno. Sometimes in CE, people take the view that your opinion is invalid if you don't have any facts to back it up. Which, of course, is bollocks. Yes, you need to explain why you believe in something, but sometimes in CE that isn't enough.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 Or whatever you come up with as your backup evidence is just dismissed. I take people's opnions seriously, whether they've done a hundred hours of research or got it on a whim.
Guest The Satanic Angel Report post Posted February 12, 2004 I take people's opnions seriously, whether they've done a hundred hours of research or got it on a whim. I think an opinion should make somebody say one of two things. "Yes, I agree." or "Why?" There's no 'why' in CE. It's all, 'well, then you must be (insert derogatory word here).' After that, one could give all the facts in the world to support their opinion, and it wouldn't matter. I guess my view of a debate is skewed.

Guest The Satanic Angel Report post Posted February 12, 2004 For example: The Death Penalty/Abortion Thread Or for example: Reason to Own Guns This evolved into: "Your country is stupid for not allowing guns."
