Not only was it a horrible card...but one of the poorest promoted/managed events ever. Fucked up starting times, ticket info, etc just killed NWA's first attempt at payperview.

 

Wasnt the double main event Ric Flair vs. Hawk(Im sure there was alot of suspense as to who was walking away with the belt after that one) and Dusty's clusterfuck steel cage match thats only purpose was to put himself over? Yeah, pretty horrible, and I dont even recall any undercard bouts but I think there was only like 3.

 

At least the Bunkhouse Stampede match was mildly entertaining, imo.

Yeah, I remember reading about that. Tickets had about 3 different start times.

 

The undercard matches were

Nikita Koloff v Bobby Eaton

Larry Zbyzsko winning the Western States Title over Barry Windham

Flair over Hawk (and it was markedly worse than their blah match during Bash '86)

Rhodes winning the Bunkhouse Stampede. Personally, I HATED the match (when Luger is one of the BETTER workers in a match, you have a problem). A lot of the eliminations were just so ridiculous (why the heck would Luger get COMPLETELY out of the cage to try and eliminate Anderson & Blanchard?)

 

Why didn't they release Vengeance 2002 on DVD? They released everything else and it is one of the few shows I never saw. I know it was hardly a great show --- but that didn't stop them putting out Judgment Day 2001, did it?

I hated Windham v Zbyzsko --- but that's largely because I loathe Zbyzsko's work. I had high hopes for Nikita v Eaton (Bobby is the man), but you're right --- it NEVER got on track.

 

I can't imagine how Crockett could have run a show in Florida that night. Who was available to ME such a show? Pretty much all of their ME'ers were in Nassau for that horrid card.

I have a tape of various matches and interviews from the TBS show around that time, and I remember Cornette trying to hype the PPV for Eaton and hyping a Florida show for Lane and Dick Murdoch. I'm pretty sure it was the same night. They also note on that tape many times that Big Bubba Rogers was the first to qualify for the Stampede final, and he's nowhere to be found despite not going to the WWF for another 5 months or so.

Since I tend to stalk ebay a lot for videos and sometimes buy stuff, here is what I've determined.

 

WWF:

-Over The Edge 99 is the ONLY PPV not released on video.

-Several IYHs were only released on Silvervision, WWF's UK label. There are PAL Conversion formats avaliable but only in limited supply (I have a couple).

These include:

-In Your House 2 (Called Here Come The Lumberjacks or something along those lines)

-In Your House 4

-In Your House 5

-In Your House 7: Good Friends, Better Enemies

-In Your House 10: Mind Games

-In Your House 12: It's Time

-In Your House 15: A Cold Day In Hell

-In Your House 19: D-Generation X

IYH 4 and 5 were released in the US as Winter Combat but only feature the top few matches from each show. All the others were released in the US some are just hard to find because of limited production. The ones listed above though are very hard to find in the US since there are only a few PAL conversions avaliable.

-As mentioned Judgement Day 2002 and Vengeance 2002 were both exclusives on DVD from wweshopzone. I ordered Vengeance in fact.

 

As for WCW, I don't know as much as WWF, but I do know...

-None of the PPVs after Fall Brawl 2000 were released on video. I actually ordered Mayhem 2000, Starcade 2000 and Superbrawl 2001 because I saw them on ebay with pictures of their boxes (front AND back) but what I got were just plain tapes off the PPV broadcast. I guess those images were WCW protypes or something but they were never made.

These are the rest of the PPVs I'm sure were not released on video. Why, I dont know:

-Souled Out 97

-Souled Out 98

-Spring Stampede 98

-Great American Bash 98

 

I dont much about shows before 95. Also note that World War 3 95 is marked 1996, WW3 96 is marked 1997 and WW3 97 is marked 1998. Also Starcade 95 is marked 1996, Starcade 96 is marked 1997 and Starcade 97 is marked 1998.

According to a British site, Havoc 00 was the last WCW PPV on video; I'm not sure if anything after BATB00 was released in the States (I've seen no proof of it).

A majorrity of the early In Your House type PPVs, including, but not limited to IYH 2, Good Friends Better Enemies, Mind Games, It's Time, A Cold Day in Hell, and Ground Zero were released in limited numbes available only through WWF Magazine. Degeneration X (The PPV) on the other hand got lost in the shuffle between the transistion from Coliseum Home Video to WWF Home Video, and never got any home video release outside the UK. Anyone know why Souled Out 1997 never got released on VHS? I'd really like to see that show.

Couple reasons...

 

For one, the price of VHS tapes of wrestling product (and just about any other new, non sell-through, release) up until DVDs completly began to take over was VERY HIGH. I'm talking $50-$80 a tape, which is one of the big reasons, it seems, like WWE cut off their Coliseum Home Video deal. When you consider that for a video store to make that money back, the movie has to rent x amount of times, you can see why a video store that only saw five rentals of Spring Stampede 1999 would not be as tempted to get Fall Brawl.

 

Also, starting in the late 90s, Blockbuster, Hollywood Entertainment, etc. took up the idea of "revenue sharing." In order for the rental stores to not pay the $50-$80, the distributors would sell them the tape for something like $8 in exchange for a share of the video stores profit, say 40%. This works out great for the video store owner, but if a distributor of high risk product did not wish to participate, it hurt their company. This may have been the case with WCW.

 

I wish I could remember who their distributor was.
