MrRant 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2004 The Lakers have good merchandising as well. I'm sure Shaq siging there provided QUITE a boost. I'd like to know where some numbers would be to back that up though.

That's in reference to marchandise only. Of course, A-Rod is a great player, probably the best on the team. I just wonder if he's so much better than Soriano that he's worth the extra money. HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2004 Well, comparing A-Rod to Soriano... A-Rod: .298/.396/.600, .996 OPS, 181 Hits, 98 Singles, 30 Doubles, 6 Triples, 47 HR's, 17 Stolen Bases, 87 Walks, 126 Strikeouts Soriano: .290/.338/.525, .863 OPS, 198 Hits, 119 Singles, 36 Doubles, 5 Triples, 38 HR's, 35 Stolen Bases, 38 Walks, 130 Strikeouts A-Rod is an improvement by: .008 in BA, .058 in OBP, .075 in SLG, .133 OPS, 1 Triple, 9 HR's, 49 Walks, 4 Strikeouts! In the Postseason: A-Rod has a .300/.300/.433 total in the division series in his career and a .340/.367/.566 in the league championship. Soriano has a .241/.281/.333 in division series play, .222/.314/.311 in league championship play and .234/.265/.362 in world series play. IMO, considering what the Yanks made up in this trade by getting A-Rod and losing Soriano, he's not nearly worth that much money in this deal. The fact that 2B is already a somewhat scarce position offensively, the Yanks could've easily traded for somebody like an Adrian Beltre to fill in the gap at 3B without having to give up as much while also keeping their payroll lower then with this trade. The only thing A-Rod does is give them a better bat for the postseason.
lomasmoney 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2004 the real question is what number will arod wear since three is retired for the great bambino

Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2004 So what does Texas do with Soriano? Keep him, and move him to the OF since they have Micheal Young at 2nd base, or send him off to a a team like the Dodgers and get some pitching help?
Bored 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2004 Young is moving to shortstop which is where he played in college and the minors. He was essentially A-Rod's back-up in Texas as if A-Rod had ever been injured Young would have shifted to shortstop and someone else would have played 2nd. Guest Brian Report post Posted February 16, 2004 You're also talking aqbout a gold glove shortstop. Which makes very little sense why they're moving him to third. Texas pays A-Rod $140 for three years worth of service.

nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2004 I'd love it if the Red Sox made some pitch to the Rangers and picked up Soriano. Not that I'm a Soriano fan by ANY stretch of the imagination, but it'd be a pretty good response to the Yankees getting Rodriguez.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted February 16, 2004 I've heard the Rangers are moving Soriano to CF, thus Michael Young is still the 2nd baseman
Cartman 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2004 Soriano SHOULD play in CF for Texas, he's a terrible Second Baseman. Also, Just after the AROD deal is official he says he wants to play SS for NY, hahahahaha!

HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2004 Why would we want Soriano? As mentioned, horrible fielding 2B and we already have a potent hitting lineup. Pokey is a FAR better fielder as a 2B and could be a decent #8/#9 hitter for us.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2004 Soriano SHOULD play in CF for Texas, he's a terrible Second Baseman. Also, Just after the AROD deal is official he says he wants to play SS for NY, hahahahaha! Wow, didn't take long for the A-Rod ego to shine on through. Maybe he wants Cal Ripken's home run record at shortstop before Derek Jeter? And who is playing second for the Yankees? I don't remember. Essentially though, I didn't care about this deal when it happened and I still don't care. Also, this wasn't about winning. This was all about money. A-Rod knows he can get more endorsement deals in NYC and as a Yankee than as a Texas Ranger. I just wish A-Rod would be honest about it for once. At least Bonds will TELL you it's about the money. That's the kind of jerk I can admire. A-Rod, I think he's nothing more than an egomaniac.
Guest Deebo Report post Posted February 17, 2004 I can't believe A-Rod is moving to 3rd. Jeter is fucking shitty on D, get him in the outfield.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted February 17, 2004 I don't think it's shitty for A-Rod to make a power play on SS for two reasons. 1. The Rod is a gold glove shortstop 2. Jeter is a crappy shortstop now if it was just one or the other, I'd bash him, but I think the two combined are just too much for him not to say anything. personally, I think they should give Jeter a try at second. HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2004 Hey Al, have you done the 2003 WS for A-Rod and Soriano? I got A-Rod at 54 and Soriano at 50(using the av. Linear Weights given by tangotiger and multiplying the offensive LW by 3 at the end after adding the outs(AB-H)) and was curious if you got the same or not. Also in Pokey's lone season of 149 games(Hasn't played 140+ otherwise or gotten more then 518 AB's in a season since) he managed to hit .285/.330/.417. If he can manage to stay healthy throughout a season he could prove to be valuable, at least as a bench player/defensive replacement for Bellhorn.

King Kamala 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2004 Don't worry my fellow Sox fans, this Yankees lineup is TOO good to be true. The locker room will be one giant ego fuck. Oh who am I kidding, the Yankees will dominate and probably win 110+ games. But the Sox'll get 'em in the ALCS just you watch AngleSault and Dames. Just you watch...... Regarding Pokey Reese, its generally more constructive to look at career averages. 251/310/357. As for win shares, my numbers come from the creator himself, courtesy of the 2004 Bill James Handbook (a terrific reference book, by the way). In lew of that book, check out baseballgraphs.com. They have win shares for every player in 2003. In 2003, A-Rod had 32 WS, and Soriano had 27.

Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted February 17, 2004 New York is A-Rod's hometown but he grew up a Mets fan. I think every word out of the Texas owner's mouth today at the press conference was bullshit since he said "George Steinbrenner told me I hope we meet in the World Series"...THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE. Pokey Reese has hit around .300 and he can steal bases, good offense stuff in my mind. Still, after this off-season I doubt I'll watch as many games as I previously would have.
