BoboBrazil 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2004 So Who Is The New NWA Director Of Authority? Surprises are tough to keep secret - especially in the world of wrestling. However, the former members of the NWA Board of Directors have done well in keeping the new NWA Director of Authority a mystery! This Wednesday night, the new law of the land will be revealed, and the rumors have been running rampant at the TNA office. Everyone has their own theory about the new Director of Authority - but no one is quite sure who it is! On Monday afternoon, several members of the TNA staff sat down to discuss their contenders for the job. Out of the dozens of names we discussed and theorized, we narrowed it down to a select few as well as some possible contenders. Keep in mind - these names are just speculative. However, the chance exists that one of these names could end up as Director of Authority on Wednesday night! NWA Director of Authority Material: 1. Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat - A top prospect by many of the TNA staff, Steamboat is a legend who is still a favorite among fans. Steamboat has all the necessary tools to be Director of Authority, and could be an effective one at that to counter the power of Jeff Jarrett. Despite making several surprise wrestling appearances over the years, Steamboat is still officially retired from in-ring action. But, the NWA tradition surely still runs strong in his veins. 2. "Rowdy" Roddy Piper - The legendary Scotsman seems perfect for the role as the new Director of Authority. During his most recent TNA appearance, Piper claimed he would be back soon...is this the return he's been waiting for? There's no denying Piper's allegiance to the NWA tradition and his desire to fight for it. And if the NWA Board was looking to stick it to Jarrett in their final decision, possibly hiring Piper as the new Director of Authority could be their ultimate act of revenge! 3. "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes - Where has "The American Dream" been in recent weeks? Perhaps taking phone calls from the former NWA Board of Directors? The wrestling legend is certainly no stranger to TNA, and even attempted to beat some respect into Jeff Jarrett during his last appearance. Rhodes is probably still itching to get some revenge on Jarrett, and serving as the new law of the land could be the way. 4. "Cowboy" Bill Watts - One Watts for another? It's no secret among wrestling circles that Bill Watts (father of former D.O.A. Erik Watts) was one of the most feared and respected authority figures of his day. Locker rooms would tremble when the elder Watts walked in - and for good reason...he didn't take bull from anyone! Still strong as an ox and tough as nails, would the legendary "Cowboy" come in to avenge his son? 5. Ken Shamrock - Who would possibly stand up to Ken Shamrock as the possible Director of Authority in TNA? Only those with a death wish! The former NWA World Heavyweight Champion was a mainstay in TNA prior to returning to the world of no holds barred fighting, and would certainly make an effective authority figure. The only question is, would a TNA return be in his cards? Shamrock has always stated his one and only love is fighting - and serving in a management position might not be his strong suit...no pun intended. 6. "Living Legend" Larry Zbyszko - From wrestler to announcer to management, Zbyszko has done it all in the wrestling business and is still semi-active. "The Living Legend" has appeared on past TNA broadcasts, and is certainly still itching to be in the spotlight. But, he would probably need some muscle to back up his authority. 7. Bobby "The Brain" Heenan - One of the most successful managers in wrestling history and still a fan favorite, Heenan recently made a welcome comeback to the wrestling world. Heenan would make a great Director of Authority and would have the respect of all the wrestlers. Like Zbyszko, Heenan was an accomplished wrestler, announcer and executive. He's got all the tools to take the spot, he's got the connections and he's got the mind...but would he want to risk getting into it with Jarrett? Possible Contenders: Nikita Koloff - Has the muscle and respect, but would he want a war with Jarrett? Jimmy Hart - Probably still steaming at what Jarrett did to him JJ Dillon - An authority figure in both WWF and WCW, but would need some backup Percy Pringle - The former manager and "paulbearer" has connections... Sting - No stranger to TNA, and certainly no stranger to fighting Jarrett Rick Steiner - Has the muscle, but could he handle the politics? Hacksaw Jim Duggan - Stands for respect and tradition, but would also need backup against Jarrett and crew Receiving Consideration: Magnum TA - Fans still speak of the legendary Magnum TA, but odds are he's strictly retired. Joey Styles - Joey as the possible new Director of Authority? OHHHH MY GOOODDDD!!!!! Tito Santana - Santana was tough in his heyday, but would probably be out of his league now. Bob Backlund - The former world champion is an interesting name, but couldn't fight Jarrett and his crew alone. George "The Animal" Steele - The green-tongued legend is as crazy as they come. Would YOU put him in charge of ANYTHING? King Kong Bundy - Bundy has the attitude and muscle to get the job done, but is probably content to be semi-retired rather than battling Jarrett on a weekly basis. Ernest "The Cat" Miller - Recently released by the WWE, Miller once served as the law in WCW. Zach Gowen - Very, very interesting possibility brought up by a TNA staffer. Plus, we hear he's had recent success in fighting authority... Diamond Dallas Page - DDP has been oddly quiet since leaving the wrestling spotlight last year. Wrestling has and always will run through his blood and his past with Jeff Jarrett is well documented. Madusa - The only female contender brought up by the TNA staff, she drives monster trucks and is tough as nails. But, would the NWA entrust her with standing up to Jarrett and crew? nwatna.com

Astro101 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2004 I've never really seen a Steamboat match, but I hope it's him or either Bobby Heenan. But it'll be Tenay.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2004 Hey, you can't spell Tenay without T N A... My personal choice would be DDP, just because I dig him. And...everytime someone says new DOA, I keep getting visions of Brian Lee and his biker buddies which isn't good.
Ultimo Dugas 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2004 I would hope it would be DDP too, but I have a feeling he's still holding out to try and get some sort of job with WWE.
Chunk 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2004 I can see them giving it to Piper. I hope they dont .... but I can see them giving it to him. Tenay wouldnt be too bad IMO, but would they then need a new play by play guy?

But everyone knows it will be either Rhodes (where's he been?) or Tenay in a close second. You can't spell Party without Artie if you mispell Party or Artie. Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2004 Zach Gowen - Very, very interesting possibility brought up by a TNA staffer. Plus, we hear he's had recent success in fighting authority... Yeah. Jobbing to Vince McMahon, being off TV for half a year, and then being kicked to the curb. What a fighter. DDP as DOA would be very good. So watch it be Tenay. Guest Boomer Sprinklespax Report post Posted February 18, 2004 Since it's pretty obvious that Tenay will be the new DOA, the REAL question is who will be the new play-by-play announcer. Joey Styles was mentioned here...is there any chance in hell of him coming in for PBP?
Styles 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2004 Since it's pretty obvious that Tenay will be the new DOA, the REAL question is who will be the new play-by-play announcer. I'd say theoretically Hudson would fill in for pBp but I can guarentee that Tenay aint leaving the booth. MAYBE for this week to sell the stoyline but the new DOA will hire him back. They know he's too valuable to the show. I'm pretty sure Russo is the new DOA, but I can't envision him as a face. Also, Tenay and Russo HATE each other (both on and off screen) so I don't see how Russo would be sympathetic to Tenay being hired back. Maybe they'll both site a mutual hate of Jarrett or something. Also, remember Cyrus is now GONE, which means a fairly huge part of this angle has to be written out. Expect whoever the new DOA is to have exercized some type of stroke to remove Callis from power. Should be an interesting week...

Guest Coffey Report post Posted February 18, 2004 I'm fairly confident it will be Vince Russo.
Michrome 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2004 Let it be Russo...the shows were a lot better when he was on TV than they are now. Just keep him away from AJ.
