Guest Anglesault Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 (edited) Read the topic. Almost everyone's name has some sort of meaning and origin, be it biblical or whatever. Personally, mine comes from Hebrew origin and means "gift of the lord." EDIT: Middle Name: Latin, meaning "nobleman" Confirmation name: Latin, meaning "alive" Edited February 23, 2004 by Anglesault
Hoff Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Are we talking real names or posting names?
CanadianChris Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Greek for "bearing Christ." Middle names are both of Teutonic origin, translating to "of mighty power" and "determined guardian."
CanadianChris Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Are we talking real names or posting names? Well, I certainly don't think Anglesault translates as "gift of the Lord."
Guest Anglesault Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Are we talking real names or posting names? Well, I certainly don't think Anglesault translates as "gift of the Lord." Beat me to it. Real first names.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Anglesault just wants to cleverly find out who's name is "Adam" so he knows who wrote the second deffinition in that Urban Dictionary.
Hoff Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Oh because it's OUT OF THE QUESTION that Mr. Sault here would make such a joke. I've heard mine comes from Irish and means "bear," or to have the strength of a bear; I've also heard it means "king" in an unnoted language.
Guest T®ITEC Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 My name means "famous brilliance". Yeah, shut up... Fun fact: I've never met someone with my name that I liked.
Guest EQ Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 My name means "King" That's right, bitches.
k thx Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 My name is Gervase and means a maker of spears in Middle-Ages England. It was also very popular amongst monks, for some reason.
Nighthawk Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 My name means beloved, but in a more practical sense, I'm named after my dead uncle. I'm 90% on changing it to J.D. Hollywood though, J.D. being Jay Dallas.
sfaJack Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 "Ruler of the people." Recognize, bitches.
justsoyouknow Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 JONATHAN m English, Biblical Pronounced: JAWN-a-than From the Hebrew name Yehonatan (contracted to Yonatan) meaning "YAHWEH has given". In the Old Testament Jonathan was the eldest son of Saul and a friend of David. He was killed in battle with the Philistines. A famous bearer of this name was Jonathan Swift, the satirist who wrote 'Gulliver's Travels' and other works. ....yeah. And Chave, how the hell do you pronounce your name? Jarvis?
Papacita Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Apparently "Wise" and/or "All-knowing".
The Metal Maniac Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 I've always been told that it meant Bearer of the Sword, but this site here says rule of the spear, but I guess that's basically the same thing.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 French form of Old German name meaning "famous in battle; renowned warrior."
Lord of The Curry Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Translates in Gaelic to "I govern by serving" so I was basically born into servitude. Yowza.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Translates in Gaelic to "I govern by serving" so I was basically born into servitude. Yowza. Make my breakfast bitch...just kidding. I can't stand another flame war. Two threads are already dedicated to me in HRDCRE
Guest BDC Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Biblical reference to Shadrach, Meshach and Abendigo, but literally it means "one who stands the heat."

Art Sandusky Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 PATRICK m Irish, English, French, German Pronounced: PAT-rik (English), pat-REEK (French) From the Roman name Patricius, which meant "nobleman" in Latin. A 5th-century saint, the patron saint of Ireland, adopted this name (his birth name was Sucat). During his youth he was captured by Irish raiders and enslaved, but after six years of servitude he escaped to his home in Britain. Eventually he became a bishop and went back to Ireland as a missionary, where he succeeded in Christianizing the entire country. Fuck yeah. I was actually named this because I had a lazy father, or perhaps because my parents aspired for me to be called simply "Junior" one day. Oh, and the last name means this: spoon {n.} 1. A utensil consisting of a small, shallow bowl on a handle, used in preparing, serving, or eating food. 2. Something similar to this utensil or its bowl, as: 1. A shiny, curved, metallic fishing lure. 2. A paddle or an oar with a curved blade. 3. Sports. The three wood golf club.
Matt Young Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 First name: Matthew- Hebrew origin... Means "Gift from God" Middle name: Robert- English origin... Means "bright, famous" Well, I certainly am a gift from God, and although I'm not yet famous, I have performed publicly in bands as well as in pro wrestling (though not as a wrestler... yet). That and the fact that I live right outside Hollywood makes my name meanings the most accurate. DISCLAIMER: The preceding statement was not 100% heartfelt. Although I do believe those things in a way, it's certainly not to the level that I would make such brash claims and expect to be taken seriously, hence the . In actuality, I have low self esteem. I just fake confidence to garner the affection of the ladies... and Anglesault.
Cuban Linx Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 From Greek, meaning 'Manly and Courageous'.
Vern Gagne Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Joseph-hebrew for "he will add" Peter-from the greek petros meaning "stone" Louis-french form of the name Ludwig, which meant "famous warrior" Stephen-"crown" Duncan-"brown warrior"
Guest Coffey Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 I'm named after Joshua from the Bible. I also have two middle names.
Guest Suicide King Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Brian - Scottish; Force, strength, a hill Thomas - Aramaic; The twin, practical, plodding, conscientious. Simon - Hebrew; He who has heard So one interpretation of my name is "He who has heard of the twin hills," which explains my lifelong fascination with breasts.
Hoff Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 First Name: Ryan -- Gaelic B Little king (Ryon, Ryen) Middle Name: Paul -- Latin B Small, little; from Paulus. (Pauly, Pavel, Paulin, Pasha, Pablo, Paulo) Confirmation Name: Jeremiah -- Hebrew B Exalted of the Lord, Other forms are Jeremias, Jeremy,Enthusiastic,Powerful. Awful lot of "little" in there for a 6'5, 300 pounder... On a personal level, Paul is my father's name, and Jeremiah is the name of our highschool's peer ministry leader (and all-around spiritual advisor, friend, and confidant). Ryan was my parent's compromise between Owen (how cool would THAT have been) and Michael. I'm pretty sure Hoff has no deeper meaning, sadly.
DCMaximo Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Apparently David means "beloved", so that's what I am....cool
