Vyce Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 Joss Whedon is not overrated......well, maybe a little bit, yes, but not that much. "Firefly", however, is probably the most overrated show of the past five years and absolutely does not belong on this list at all.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 As the worlds biggest Buffy fan... allow me to say in all honesty... Firefly > Buffy
RavishingRickRudo Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 Mole, don't forget about loving onion blossoms and watching passions.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 For me, Im having a hard time figuring out whether the show was canceled by the network or just ended too early. As for one of the only shows on that list, Homicide: Life on the Street, I think its on a cable network. I want to say A&E since they are the ones releasing the DVD sets but Im not sure. Season 4 of 7 comes out next month. As for shows I liked that got canceled, I gotta be the only one to have actually watched Push Nevada because I liked it. I think the majority of people (small number) watched it just because of the money giveaway.
Mecha Mummy Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 I want to be quite honest here because I'm really sick of this... Family Guy, while funny, is so obscenely overrated it's sickening. Clerks: TAS was a funnier show and was screwed over ten thousand times worse than FG was.
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 Murder One is still the best show ever that was cancelled. The 2nd season, while nowhere near as good as the 1st (which is easily the best single season of any TV series in history), was still better than 99% of the stuff on TV at the time. It's a real shame they couldn't keep together the full season 1 cast for an extended period of time. I'm not sure there was ever a better group assembled for TV anywhere. As far as this list goes, while Homicide being on there is a bit strange given the length of its run, it was one of the best shows of its era. The crossover episodes with Law & Order were some of my all-time favorite TV.
ulfistgut Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 Twin Peaks > All other cancelled shows EVAR.
Insane Bump Machine Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 Twin Peaks was cancelled? CLERKS should be on that list.
Youth N Asia Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 Joss Whedon is a hell of a writer. You just have a built in disliking for the guy which predetermines your opinions on his work.
Mole Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 You guys scare me. You don't make fun of Joss, we are worse than Trekkies. Mole, don't forget about loving onion blossoms and watching passions. And I forgot the biggest one; being a champion.
ulfistgut Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 Twin Peaks was cancelled? Yup, leaving Coop possessed and so on. All though I may have missed the point? Terms aren't quite the same over here as they are there, would Cancelled mean if the show was cancelled between series (i.e more episodes not wanted) or cancelled mid series (ala Clerks) Even more of a shame was we lost out on the prospect of a Lars Von Trier directed episode (as was the idea for Season 3). But yeah, Clerks gets a nod too
Star Ocean 3 Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 Mr. Show is awful. I'm surprised The Tick made it, though, that was wonderful.
Vyce Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 Clerks: TAS was a funnier show and was screwed over ten thousand times worse than FG was. That's just crazy talk. That show was godawful. You know what? I'll go one better. There isn't even a Kevin Smith MOVIE that is as good as Family Guy is.
Guest OctoberBlood Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 10. "The Tick" (Live version) - I only saw a few episodes, but I loved them. Bad time slot if I remember correctly. Fuck Fox. 9. "My So-Called Life" - Heard of it. Never watched. 8. "The Ben Stiller Show" - Never saw it. 7. "Sports Night" - Great show. 6. "Firefly" - Good from the small amount of episodes I watched. 5. "NewsRadio" - Very good show, though - like the others, never watched much of it, just a number of episodes. 4. "Family Guy" - One of my all time favorites. Get the DVDs baby! Can't wait for the new episodes and new movie. 3. "Homicide: Life on the Street" - Never really watched. Though, I did see the Law and Order/Homicide crossover movie. 2. "Freaks and Geeks" / "Undeclared" - I LOVED F&G. Gotta get the new DVD coming out. Great show. 1. "Mr. Show with Bob and David" - Never watched.

DerangedHermit Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 The Top 10 I meant* 10. "The Tick" (Live version) 9. "My So-Called Life" 8. "The Ben Stiller Show" 7. "Sports Night" 6. "Firefly" 5. "NewsRadio" 4. "Family Guy" 3. "Homicide: Life on the Street" 2. "Freaks and Geeks" / "Undeclared" 1. "Mr. Show with Bob and David" The only two shows on the list that I cared about their cancellation were Family Guy (awesome beyond words) and Undeclared (not my favorite show, but I was starting to watch it regularly). Where the fuck is Andy Richter or FUTURAMA on this list!?!?!?!?!? Let's hope Arrested Development (my favorite new show for the 2003-4 season) doesn't join the list! /me marks for Carl Weathers appearance (and Liza Minnelli was shockingly decent in her role)

Family Guy, while funny, is nowhere near as funny as people make it out to be. Oh, and every Kevin Smith movie other than "Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back" and possibly "Dogma" is better than Family Guy.
RavishingRickRudo Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 Family Guy is overrated. And this is from someone who thought it was the funniest thing ever a few years ago. It's still fucking funny, but just not as funny as it was when you saw it the first time. It doesn't hold up.
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 I have never found Family Guy funny. As far as cancelled cartoons go, Undergrads owns it.
Youth N Asia Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 I never got into Undergrads. I just didn't find it funny enough...where as I loved the first 2 seasons of Family Guy, but th 3rd fell short with me
Guest thebigjig Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 I dont get the love for Clerks... the cartoon or the movie. The movie fucking sucked... great dialogue, but the acting was attrocious... the only redeeming factor was the Silent Bob spoken line: there's a million fine looking women in the world, but they all dont bring you lasagna at work... most of 'em just cheat on you Aside from that, I had a hard time finishing the overrated piece of shit Family Guy > Clerks
Mecha Mummy Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 I disagree with you there. I don't see what's wrong with Brian O'Halloran or Jeff Anderson's acting, really. And I'm sort of in the same boat as Rudo. Family Guy was really funny to me, oh, two, three years ago. Now it's just eh. The episodes don't hold up well. Oh, and Undergrads was pretty funny, primarily Cal.
Mole Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 Bah, I've found to like Family Guy more funnier than the Simpsons, especially after more than one viewing. And for those who say Joss is overrated? Who saw Toy Story? He helped write that one and that is a classic.
Guest thebigjig Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 Clerks actng is horrible... rushed dialogue with no emotion or feeling by every actor... near the end it gets better, but I was laughing at just how bad it was. I've seen it twice... once a few years ago. I HATED it then. I gave it a second chance two weeks ago when I bought it, and while I dont hate it as much as I did, I still find it a waste of time, although granted, considering it was kevin smiths first... it couldve been worse

How can it be the first time that someone's heard that Family Guy was overrated when there's a few of us that say it everytime someone references the show? The show was good, but not great, and certainly doesn't merit the deity-level status that it receives. And I don't get how NewsRadio makes this list ... by the time that it was canceled it was barely watchable. I think if a show is on long enough to go from being great to bad, then it ran it's course and shouldn't be viewed as 'canceled'. It should be viewed as euthanized.

How about calming the hell down? Please explain how I was supposed to know that he was being sarcastic? The number of idiotic comments on this board are increasing each and every day, so to have someone say that they've never heard the Family Guy called overrated would not be a surprise. Dick.
Youth N Asia Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 For it's time Family Guy was much funnier then the Simpsons...but there's no way they could have kept up a long run. So overall the Simpsons is the far better show. I just couldn't see talking about Family Guy in 10 years about new episodes and whatnot. Clerks just didn't work for me. I loved the movie, but I can really understand why it didn't pick up on cartoon.
