Guest Redhawk Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 1) How come whenever a wrestler is "fired" in a storyline, the announcers always say stuff like, "He'll be flipping burgers" or "How is he going to make a living and feed his family?" As if wrestlers don't have ANY other job possibilities. At the vey least, guys that big could be bouncers or bodyguards. 2) In a No-DQ tag team match, why do the partners stay in their corners? And in No-DQ singles matches, why does the rope-submission rule apply? 3) Why are announcers the first ones to do the "How can he beat up on a woman/helpless person/smaller person" routine, but the last ones to jump in and do something?
Lightning Flik Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 1) How come whenever a wrestler is "fired" in a storyline, the announcers always say stuff like, "He'll be flipping burgers" or "How is he going to make a living and feed his family?" And in No-DQ singles matches, why does the rope-submission rule apply? 3) Why are announcers the first ones to do the "How can he beat up on a woman/helpless person/smaller person" routine, but the last ones to jump in and do something? 1) The first one's pretty easy. Many wrestlers have built up all their lives on the fact they are wrestlers, often giving up the chance to get a real career or job. Hence why the storyline is always used. However, the current mentality and how everyone's just seemingly "picked up off the street" doesn't help this at all. 2) The kayfabe and actually logical reason - to keep one's team's strength up. If you play "by the rules" you have the advantage when "all hell breaks loose". Or so the train of thought should go. Does this happen? Rarely, because dumbasses book the shows and don't think this. As for the rope break, that doesn't make any sense at all. 3) Kayfabe and again logical reason - Eh? Since when would announcers WANT to do that? The wrestlers are "trained" at what they do, and could seriously injure said announcers.
Guest Anglesault Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 What the hell move is the heel going for whn he jumps off the ropes, attempts nothing, and lands on an extended foot?
lomasmoney Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 What the hell move is the heel going for whn he jumps off the ropes, attempts nothing, and lands on an extended foot? The impact from the heel landing on the mat with both feet is supposed to break the faces' ribs or something but by the face elevating the foot he lessens the impact, Who am I kidding I have no fucking clue what that move is supposed to do
Nighthawk Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 What the hell move is the heel going for whn he jumps off the ropes, attempts nothing, and lands on an extended foot? Double stomp? I've seen them do that where it looks good, but only in Japan.
Lightning Flik Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 What the hell move is the heel going for whn he jumps off the ropes, attempts nothing, and lands on an extended foot? This I never got as well, but I'll explain it by saying they most likely are trying some sort of move but when they start the movment of jumping and then realizing their opponent's foot is up, they can't really do much. It's one of those situations where you realize that you just blundered but there's nothing you can do to stop it and just take it like a bitch.
Lil' Bitch Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 Um...we do have the New School Questions thread for questions like these to be posted to be answered there....
Highland Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 What the hell move is the heel going for whn he jumps off the ropes, attempts nothing, and lands on an extended foot? Usually the guy on the top rope is going for a double axehandle. It's an incredibly stupid spot, so much so that even Lance Storm bitches about it on his site, citing that the move is completely illogical.
Guest Redhawk Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 A double axehandle against someone who's laying on the ground? Anyway, here's a random question: What kind of name is Test?
Highland Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 Yes, hence the reason Storm hates the spot, it's completely senseless. The kind of name given to a talentless wrestler that receives pushes and always fumbles the ball, no matter how many times and how long he's been n the business. And no, Orton is not Test. Yet.
Guest Stunt Granny Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 1) How come in really importaint matches they appoint someone with no referee training or expierience to do the job. 2) When a ref is knocked out, only about half the time somebody comes out and takes over. Take HHH vs. Undertaker at Wrestlemania XVII for example. That ref was out cold for 10 minutes and nobody came out to even see if he was okay.
Fökai Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 Anyway, here's a random question: What kind of name is Test? He debuted on HEAT and RAW as a bodyguard for Motley Crue (don't know if there's any legit background behind this) back in 1998. The concert happened a few weeks before he actually did anything in-ring, where he attacked Triple H during a match with the Corporation, I believe. Anyway, the name "Test" is based off of the mic/speaker check of "Test, test, this is a test", hence the concert tie-in to his gimmick.
Ced Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 Still, his name is Test?!? Along the same lines, is it an alias or is really the wrestler's full name? Stephanie called Test "Andrew" a few times, but Christian never called Edge "Adam", did he? My brain explodes by thinking about the logic gap...don't worry though, it's grown rather accustomed to that.
Fökai Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 Along the same lines, is it an alias or is really the wrestler's full name? Stephanie called Test "Andrew" a few times, but Christian never called Edge "Adam", did he? It's an alias, according to WWE. The name on the wedding invitation in that 1999 angle read "Andrew Martin", not "Andrew 'Test' Martin" or the like. Edge and Christian were more than happy to reveal their real names during their "Before They Were Superstars" segment on Confidential last summer - WWE didn't blur out their name, when it came to showing their childhood trophies.
Guest OnlyMe Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 Edge called himself "Adam Copeland" on the post 9/11 SmackDown!, in one of the backstage interviews.
SuperJerk Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 Um...we do have the New School Questions thread for questions like these to be posted to be answered there.... I think the new school questions thread is more for "Hey, I'd like to know" questions, whereas this thread is more for "What the fuck are they thinking?" type questions.
Guest Redhawk Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 As a nickname/alias/whatever, "Edge" at least makes sense. Like, "I'm edgy" or "I've always got the edge" or "I live on the edge." But Test? What's the point? "Don't test me" or "You have to pass me to get to Motley Crue?" I always thought Test would have been a good name for a Dean Douglas bodyguard, but that's the only time it would ever make sense.
Guest Choken One Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 It wasn't "test, test one" He was the Insurance Policy. Basically, he was the final part of the corporation...i.e the end of the line...
Lil' Bitch Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 I think the new school questions thread is more for "Hey, I'd like to know" questions, whereas this thread is more for "What the fuck are they thinking?" type questions. Ah, gotcha. Thanks.
Brett Favre Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 As a nickname/alias/whatever, "Edge" at least makes sense. Like, "I'm edgy" or "I've always got the edge" or "I live on the edge." But Test? What's the point? "Don't test me" or "You have to pass me to get to Motley Crue?" Test should have henchman named "Studying". So before each match he gets on the mic and says "You have to go through studying, before you get to the Test!". That would finally put 'em over.
Guest Askewniverse Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 1.) Why does Ric Flair still go to the top rope? 2.) Why do referees ask the heel if he/she cheated? The heel probably isn't going to say "Yeah, I admit it. I held on to the ropes for leverage. You should go ahead and disqualify me."
Guest Choken One Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 1) It worked ONE time...and he figures it might work again. REAL REASON: It Pops the crowd. 2). To create the illusion of control I have to extend on this...How come he never believes the face made the tag but if the "legal" heel makes the tag gesture when the ref questions him, he believes the guy
Guest Anglesault Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 I have to extend on this...How come he never believes the face made the tag but if the "legal" heel makes the tag gesture when the ref questions him, he believes the guy Because the heel could make a good case that the ref is discriminating against him if he doesn't believe.
spman Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 Why are sledgehammers and Garbage Cans and other miscellaneous foreign object just conviently under the ring when the are nescessary? During a No DQ match, why doesn't one guy just get a baseball bat and knock his opponent senseless to get the pin? Better yet, why not comes to the ring with two or three buddies and just rush the guy? Why not bring foreign objects into a Battle Royal or Royal Rumble? I think a guy with a chair would easily be able to clear the entire ring.
Guest Choken One Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 Garbage cans make sense...they need to put trash somewhere... Ladders make sense because they need then to connect wires i guess...at least for TLC matches they just said fuck it and put 20 ladders by the ramp... Sledgehammer, we have to infer that HHH put it there ahead of time...it's even worse when he pulls it from the announcers table..as if Ross sat there for 2 1/2 hours with knowing there was a fucking sledgehammer under him. Clearly, you never seen the 2001 Rumble...because there was a HARDCORE segment, where raven, Blackman and Snow brought weapons like Kendos, Bowling balls, Cans...
Guest Askewniverse Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 -Are botched spots really that bad? Sure, they take away from the match most of the time, but couldn't it also be argued that botched spots add realism? Wrestlers are human beings, and humans make mistakes. I'm not talking about the extreme cases (like Orton's RKO from a few weeks ago), but spots such as RVD's missed kick at SummerSlam 2001, Foley's elbow at WM 2000, etc. -Why do the announcers sitting at ringside watch their monitors instead of the ring? -When wrestlers are watching the show backstage, why don't we see them watching themselves? Do the backstage TVs and monitors pick up a different signal than what we get?
spman Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 The annoucers watch the monitors so they can commentate bsed on what the Audience is actually seeing on their TV at home. It woudln't make sense for the announcers to say something about what's going on int he ring while the TV audeince is seeing a backstage segment.
razazteca Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 Why do wrestlers show up late in Limos? Why does the tag team division constist of 3 teams? And then the same match up is run into the ground for a year? Will WWE ever bring back the 6 man tag team division concept to tv? Will there ever be a team as great as Road Warriors & Dusty Rhodes? Why does Vince waste money on mainstream crossover projects that have nothing to do with wrestling which usually fail in less than 2 years?
Guest Choken One Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 1) Not True...Austin has a truck and Foley often shows up in a Cab and Rock had his Lincoln 2). Because WWE refuses to BUILD divison 3). No way...They can hardly create TWO MAN teams much less three 4). Because Vince has no clue about anything other then how to market his circus The Monitors, I guess are video feeds of what is in the ring...(i.e while the TV cameras focus on them...they have a feed of the in ring camera)...
LooseCannon25 Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 Why is it that Ric Flair keeps climbing the top rope, when he hasn't been successfull in NOT getting caught for like 30 years now? Why is it that during a big feud where a wrestler does something dastardly to another wrestler which leads to a match..........the wrestler waiting in the ring allows the other wrestler to go through his entire entrance including poses and stuff without jumping him?
