NYU 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2004 I managed to find this analysis of Tony's dream on a different website. So, while this work definitely wasn't written by me, this was.....er......exactly what I was thinking following Sunday's episode. Yep. 1. Falling out teeth I disagree about the teeth. Tony started losing teeth on the way to eat dinner with his future son-in-law, the dental student. He didn't want to go, he had to be somewhere he said. Teeth equates money. Tony sees his daughter marrying a loser. They will expect a big wedding, financial support for his dental school, their future home, and more. It's like pulling teeth to get money out of Tony, and that's just what they will do. Most father's of brides feel it in the wallet the most, especially mafia bosses who tend to support all family financially. 2. Dead Carmine in bed. Tony is literally in bed with Carmine, representing his unwanted involvement with the feuding Johnny Sack and Little Carmine. He is drawn into the feud whether he likes it or not, and he fears the deaths that surround this affiliation, and the lonely hell that awaits all Mafia bosses, including Tony. 3. Dinner with the future in-laws. Here is a man serenading his wife with a love song, as his daughter, future son-in-law and wife looks on happily. He knows he doesn't provide a loving example of a husband, and his wife and daughter admire it in other men. Tony is savvy enough to realize that the man's wife is an actress playing a role, that she really doesn't love the man, and is only pretending. This is how Tony thinks all women are. They pretend to love for financial gain. 4. Shrink time with dead Gloria. When Tony told Dr. Melfi being there was like taking a dump, then she compared it to childbirth, he immediately thought of Gloria, which is why she entered the dream. His guilt for Gloria's death at a young age, with no children, is profound. He shit on Gloria, and he knows it, which is why she killed herself. He knows that people that he loves die around him. Tony doesn't want to face the guilt of another death of a loved one that he is responsible for = Cousin TonyB. 5. Everyone telling Tony he knows what to do. Everyone is telling Tony to do what he knows needs to be done, which is kill his own cousin TonyB before he causes a war with Johnny Sack by vendetta killing. TonyB is a loose cannon who decides on his own to do unapproved killings. As boss, Tony knows he can't have his underlings making these kinds of decisions that will affect the entire family's future. He has to take TonyB out, before it's too late. But he is conflicted, since he loves TonyB and feels guilty for his going to jail instead of Tony. Thus, he has no gun, or he can't get the bullets to work. All the voices of reason tell Tony to do it: Carmen, the voice on the phone, even Annette Benning. But it's too late, Tony doesn't act, and TonyB starts the war by trying to kill Phil who is only wounded, but actually killing Bill. 6. Sex with Charmaine and Artie. For Tony, Artie and Charmaine = memories of the friendships of his youth. They are dependable, as Artie helps Tony get away from being chased, and warns him. Charmaine was an old fling of Tony's, which neither Carmella nor Artie know about. Tony really misses Caremella, but if he can't have her, he wants someone from a similar background. Charmaine, who he lusted for as a kid, represents nice, dependable and comforting Italian woman who knows the score and has a nice rack. The fact that Artie is there coaching him as he has sex with her is Tony's way of saying to himself that good old Artie won't mind, the chump. Nothing to feel guilty about. 7. Tony on a horse with Carmella. Tony wants Carmella back. He misses her. But he likes to be able to "ride" other women. The horse represents all the other women Tony wants to have sex with. Carmella says that the horse must go, that it is non-negotiable. She won't allow him to continue to have sex outside of marriage and return home to her. Tony argues, then decides he'd rather leave and keep riding the horse than give up his freedom to return to Carmella. 8. Tony's dad driving Tony and the dead guys. Tony is doing what he does, being a mafioso, due to following in his Dad's footsteps. His dad literally drove him to it, and Tony feels powerless to do anything else but take the ride as a backseat passenger. Tony feels he has no choice and is a victim, just like all the dead guys and Artie were victims of Tony's violence and/or betrayal. It's not Tony's fault he had to kill Pussy or Ralphie, it's the lifestyle that Tony's dad drove him to kill to sustain. Little Carmine in the back next to Tony is also along for the ride, he is a second generation mafioso too, and he is following in the same footsteps, driven to feud. 9. The High School Coach. Tony was a fat kid who got yelled at by the coach for not being good enough of a leader to lead in sports. Tony feels inadequate, and always has. The coach attacking Tony for not being able to lead as he should represents Tony's lack of willingness to kill TonyB as he knows he should do as a mafia leader. He fumbles for the bullets and they turn to chocolate. Fat kids eat chocolate for comfort food. His coach made fun of fat kids. Tony can't be comforted, he can't get respect, and he can't pull the trigger. The coach knows Tony is inadequate, and so does Tony. 10. The TV shows everywhere. Tony sees old tv shows he saw as a kid everywhere. There was a cowboy hero, Scrooge who learned his lesson and a Mexican standoff. He also referred to Jackie Gleason's Honeymooners. The tv represents Tony's desires, unfulfilled. He'd like to be a hero. He'd like to be the rich man who is generous after visits from the ghosts. He'd like to be a strong leader. But he can't. He's as powerless to change as he is to change what happens on the television.
BlackFlagg 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2004 RIP Adriana G'damn that was a great episode.... Looks like the NY-NJ war is about to really begin, let's get ready to rumble, heh. Can't wait to see what's in store for the finale...
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted May 24, 2004 Well, they like to do one huge late season kill, and one huge last episode kill. It was just a matter of what order they did Tony B and Adrianna.
Bored 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2004 Wow...something sure did happen tonight. Biggest plot development in a long time. The lesson: being in the mafia is a lot more fun than being on cross country trips with snot nosed kids. Damn gonna wait two weeks for the finale.

NYU 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2004 Ugh. I knew it had to happen eventually, but it just pains me to see the best looking woman on the show killed off. R.I.P. Adrianna. This episode was the best one of the season....which makes the other 10 episodes of shit we had to sit through so far all the more disappointing.
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted May 24, 2004 I knew it was going to happen sooner or later, but damn..the Aprile family has really bad luck.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted May 24, 2004 Ugh. I knew it had to happen eventually, but it just pains me to see the best looking woman on the show killed off. R.I.P. Adrianna. I'm gonna miss her. I would have liked to see her storyline go to the end of the series, where all loose ends finally get settled, but you kind of knew it was time for Adrianna to face the final curtain. Steve J. Rogers 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2004 Heard some sports radio hosts in NY say they jumped the ship after last week, wonder what they thought of tonight's episode
Steve J. Rogers 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2004 I knew it would happen, she has "Joey" coming up. Well yeah, but considering the Sopranos wouldn't start filming again untill next spring would have given her time to do both Fans may have seen it as a HUGE spoiler (especially with NBC running promos with footage of her in the pilot) but I don't think it could have been interpereted as such Steve
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2004 I remember Adrianna was on the View before the season started and when they asked her if she got whacked this season, she seemed to have a hard time holding back from giving a response. Jeezus, I forgot all about that dammit. Fantastic episode. The NY/NJ war better actually happen this time and not another f'n tease. Somehow I think Tony B. will still be alive after this season, whether it is because he fled(still in hiding) or Tony just tells Sack to F'off and then the war really heats up as Tony goes to Bat for B. Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2004 For me it's not so much about IF Tony B gets killed, it's what the circumstances will be. I guess the next season will be about Noo Yawk falling on them like a ton of bricks.
NYU 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2004 So, with the season finale happening tomorrow night, what are your predictions for the last episode of Season 5? -Obviously, I see a big whacking happening tomorrow night. Everyone is convinced Tony B. is the character that winds up getting killed, but I'm actually leaning towards Christopher. With his relapse back into drugs, being alone without Adrianna, his remaining hurt feelings with Tony S. and Tony B. making fun of him together.....I don't think Chris is lasting much longer. -Maybe they'll admit that they didn't actually shoot Adrianna. There has to be a reason they didn't show a huge killing like that on camera. I've been hearing theories that Silvio fired a warning shot, telling her to run away before she gets hurt. It's a little unrealistic, sure, but.....still......one could hope -There's also the storyline with Johnny Sack that's sure to be addressed. as well as the recent rejoining of Tony and Carmela. There's so many different directions they could go with the finale tomorrow night. Let's just hope they don't drop the ball like they did with Season 4. Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2004 I heard Drea De Matteo (sp?) is going to appear in a few episodes next season. Not sure how that'll work, probably flashbacks. I doubt he let her live. I mean, they whacked Pussy, so why would Silvio let Adrianna live? Just because she's a woman? Tony B. is the favorite to get whacked, but I wouldn't be surprised if they pull a swerve and have him survive. Chris getting it would be a bit of a shock. Maybe they do a cliff-hanger by having Tony S. get hit. Not dead, but seriously hurt.
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted June 7, 2004 The finale just started, but I'm predicting that either Johnny Sack or Phil Leotardo get whacked.

Cartman 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 I knew Tony S. would be the onw to kill Tony B. as it's better than him being tortured by Sack. Great finale BTW.
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 In my opinion, this was a very lackluster season (Other than the stuff with Adrianna and Tony B.) Bad part is, we won't get the final season until late 2005 - early 2006.
The Dames 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 The previews made that look much better. Happens every week. The trailers always make it seem more impactful than they usually are. I was surprised that Tony B. was killed in the fashion he was...but damn, Johnny Sack's in jail!? I would have preferred NY vs. NJ going into Season 6 as opposed to the end of the war in one episode.... Dames
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted June 7, 2004 The previews made that look much better. Happens every week. The trailers always make it seem more impactful than they usually are. I really figured that they'd go all out for this finale. Or at least kill Ray Curto.
NYU 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 It was a decent season finale.....just may have been too predictable for its own good. With the Adrianna whacking last episode, people were begging to be shocked again. Instead, Tony B. got clipped in a plot twist that didn't surprise anybody. Sure, it's logical, but another major character could have gotten killed before it was all over. I will say that I was surprised about the FBI appearance at the end, but it became even more disappointing when we realized they weren't even after Tony. And are they serious with ending the NY/NJ war? That was what the sixth season was supposed to be about. Bloodshed, nasty mob dealings, continuous whackings....the hottest way to go out. But it looks as if that chapter in the Sopranos is closed. So what's next? Dealing with Meadow's wedding, AJ's party planning, Carmela's business, and Tony's marriage?? I don't know if I could deal with any more of this Soprano family garbage. Who really cared about AJ's party tonight? What the hell was even the point of thoe scenes?! Let's hope they have a plan for bringing back the mob war in Season 6 because, otherwise, the series is in danger of ending in a whimper rather than a bang.
