Nevermortal Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 http://xbox.ign.com/articles/496/496885p1.html Well, looks like the XBOX might be my last system ever, seeing as I vowed to myself never to buy another memory card in my life.
BUTT Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 This seems like a strange choice on Microsoft's part, seeing as how hard drive space keeps getting cheaper and the Flash memory they are planning on using is said to be much more expensive in large quantities than hard drive space. One thing I was recently wondering is, assuming that the next Xbox is backward compatible, how is Microsoft planning to handle the issue of transferring content from the Xbox to the next Xbox (i.e. music, saves, downloadable content) and it seems to me that the hard drive is really not doing very much good for them. I have a feeling that this next Xbox is going to flop.
razazteca Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 Maybe without the hard drive the system will be cheaper.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 I'm still trying to figure this out myelf. On one hand...I understand that the system will be more powerfull without the harddrive...but on the other hand...I don't want any memory cards. Also...what are they going to do about Downloadable Content? It's one of the big pluses that it has over the other systems. They won't just get rid of it...will it be something where it will be on there servers and you have to connect to play? It seems like this whole idea might be trying to force people to use XBox Live. That doesn't bother me...since I do...but this is too agressive. Basically...if they tell me that these memory disc things are huge memory cards already built into the system...then I'm fine with that...but I'm iffy on everything else. Why would Microsoft decide to take away what truly made the Xbox one of a kind?
Guest KJ Brackish Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 Another reason why I'm buying the PS3. They have confirmed that the HDD is of course built into it. Guess my Xbox really is the last *microcrap* (microsoft) product that I'll buy from them, as far as gaming. Looks like PS2 and Xbox 2 switched places. PS3/ps2 now has the HDD and downloadable content whereas Xbox 2 = Crap. DFA
The Ghost of bps21 Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 Well...I'll get all the consoles anyway... It's just irritating that the one I play far and a way the most is looking to become the Gamecube...err...DUST COLLECTOR.
Use Your Illusion Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 Thank you, Gates. You've just convinced me to buy a Playstation 3. UYI
Guest OctoberBlood Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 That really sucks. Big time. I'll probally end up buying PS3 and Xbox2 just like I did the firsts, but bah .. that's a really turnoff. It's such a stupid move, that is' not even funny.
MrRant Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 Eh... I will wait for the concrete details to be hammered out first.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 I think this is funny. "OMG TEH GAMECUBE SUX CUS IT DONT HAV A HARDRIVE LIK XBOX" This really goes to prove the rumors that the X Box won't be backwards compatible. It also alienates the 70% of the population of the US that don't have broadband internet so that they could access X Box Live and their servers, but thats no different than if it did have a hard drive.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 1. Gamecube doesn't suck because it has no hardrive...it sucks because it has no games. 2. Nintendo's consoles aren't backwards compatable either... That's why we don't use Gamecube as a comparison when we talk consoles. Except for the two times a year they put out an exclusive game worth anything...they fall out of memory.
razazteca Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 Why buy the 1st release of the PS3 when it will break in a few months?

Except for the two times a year they put out an exclusive game worth anything...they fall out of memory. 1.Lack of total games? Yes. Lack of quality games? I dont think so. There are enough great games on the gamecube (sans sports titles) for me. And one of the major bashings of the Gamecube was that it didn't have a hard drive. All I heard was how Hard Drives were the new standard for memory in consoles and Nintendo was just its usual slow self to adopt new technology. But it says something for hard drives in consoles when Microsoft wont put one in their next console. 2. Nintendo's next console will likely be backwards compatible, from what I've heard.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 I have a Gamecube. I last turned it on 4 months ago. I played Super Monkey Ball 2. I was totally pro Gamecube until I got an XBox. ...mine eyes have seen the glory...
Guest OctoberBlood Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 Why buy the 1st release of the PS3 when it will break in a few months? I've had mine for 2 years and has never "broke" in any way, shape or form.
Karnage Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 Microsoft hasn't said anything yet so I'm gonna panic when they officially say theres no HD.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 Mine broke two days after the warranty ran out.
Use Your Illusion Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 Did it just break in one day or did it gradually degenerate? What happend to it? UYI
The Ghost of bps21 Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 It gradually stopped playing things. First DVDs...which didn't bother me since I have a DVD player. Then blue back discs. Then everything.
Mole Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 Hmm, was Gates high when he thought of this? Xbox2 isn't going to sell anywhere near as much as Xbox did. I'm still unsure on either PS3 or whatever Nintendo is going to release. It all depends on how good Nintendo's is since I would rather spend money on them.
Lightning Flik Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 It gradually stopped playing things. First DVDs...which didn't bother me since I have a DVD player. Then blue back discs. Then everything. BTW, don't believe anyone that "oh, it's just a certain type". It's all the bloody hadian types. I've had 4 different PS2s and they've all broken. It pisses me off because I don't have anything on my GameCube that I haven't totally played to death besides FF:CC (which I'm playing with friends and family, so I don't like playing by myself). As far as the M$ situation, I'm not surprised in the slightest. I'm only more shocked that they are using expensive Memory Cards now instead which will probably end up being more than the Hard Drives would've been.
TheFranchise Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 What are you all DOING to your PS2s? The secret if not to drop them. Also, i have a GC and an X-Box both set up to my TV (i have two scart leads) and i play on them both all of the time. I'd pick my Cube if i had to choose.
Lightning Flik Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 What are you all DOING to your PS2s? Really, nothing. I only dropped #1. That's it. And I dropped it in it's freaking "super fucked up" case that isn't fuckable that I picked up. Yah, right. Not fuckable... So not true.
Ripper Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 I don't know a single person that isn't on their second Playstation 2...well...not personally (I don't know you personally...and WHO'S FAULT IS THAT!!!!!!!!!) and they didn't drop it or anything, it just stop reading the games. Or the fan would die and the system would cut off in about 20 minutes.

Brush with Greatness Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 Yeah, but Sony will fix them for free even if your warranty is expired, so apart from not having it for like a week or two what's the big fucking deal?

Or the fan would die and the system would cut off in about 20 minutes. I'm still on my first Playstation 2. I bought it in June of 2001. Personally, I always unplug my system when I'm not playing it since that probably made my 1st Playstation conk out.
Ripper Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 Yeah, but Sony will fix them for free even if your warranty is expired, so apart from not having it for like a week or two what's the big fucking deal? The DEAL is wanting something you spent money on to freakin work.
