Zorin Industries Posted March 11, 2004 Report Posted March 11, 2004 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/3500452.stm A timely reminder to all of us that it's not just the Middle East that needs to be looked at when it comes to Terrorism
Guest hunger4unger Posted March 11, 2004 Report Posted March 11, 2004 Authorities are blaming ETA but they didn't issue a warning (like they usually do) and have yet to accept credit for the attack. There has been talk that a muslim group were behind the attack...what a world we are living in.
Zorin Industries Posted March 11, 2004 Author Report Posted March 11, 2004 Its now up to nearly 200 dead with over 1200 injured, the worst terroist attck in Europe since Lockerbie. I really want to find out who did this, if it is ETA then this is a new angle for them to take.
BX Posted March 11, 2004 Report Posted March 11, 2004 http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?t...69§ion=news DUBAI (Reuters) - A letter purporting to come from Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network claimed responsibility for the train bombings in Spain on Thursday, calling them strikes against "crusaders," a London-based Arabic newspaper said. "We have succeeded in infiltrating the heart of crusader Europe and struck one of the bases of the crusader alliance," said the letter which called the attacks "Operation Death Trains." There was no way of authenticating the letter, a copy of which was faxed to Reuters' office in Dubai by the London-based al-Quds al-Arabi newspaper. The letter bore the signature "Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades." The newspaper received similar letters from the same brigade claiming responsibility on behalf of al Qaeda for a November bombing of two synagogues in Turkey and the August bombing of the U.N. headquarters in Baghdad.
Guest hunger4unger Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Jesus Christ...how long before something like that happens in the UK. It truly is a scary world.
Guest Anglesault Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 A timely reminder to all of us that it's not just the Middle East that needs to be looked at when it comes to Terrorism Well, it looks like it was middle eastern terrorists who did it, so maybe not.
Vyce Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Jesus Christ...how long before something like that happens in the UK. It truly is a scary world. Let's hope that it doesn't. However, I would LIKE to think that maybe these recent events have given you some insight into why we Americans act the way we do about terrorism.
Styles Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Just terrible...condolences to any Spanish posters....

True, but I believe that the Spanish Defense minister said yesterday that most of the clues were ponting towards ETA. So either its ETA gearing up ther campaign or else Islamic Terrorism has finally come to Europe in strength, neither option is pleasent to think about

Vyce Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Not to mention, AS, the belief now that ETA was....well, outsourced to commit this attack for Al-Qaeda.
MrRant Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 Don't post AOL only stuff AS. Here's a better link - http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/europe/03/13...asts/index.html *Checks his Holy War countdown clock.*
Guest Anglesault Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 Ah, sorry. I didn't even realize.
Guest MikeSC Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 Not a problem. Of course, there have now been demonstrations stating that Spanish support of the war in Iraq caused the bombings. Yup, nice to see that the left in those countries really get the whole point of this war on terror. -=Mike

BX Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 Which protests would those be, Mike? Of the protests I have seen, both in front of the Popular Party headquarters and the office of the department heading up the investigation, the protests have all been "stating" that the handling of the investigation is being manipulated for political means. You do realize that there is an election tomorrow, right? Yup.
Guest Crazy Dan Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 Pardon my ignorance, but could someone fill me into the details of ETA. What do the initials stand for? What is their problem? What are they trying to accomplish? Since this tragedy, this was the first time I have ever heard of ETA, and I would like to know get a better understanding. Plus, this looks like another terrorist group to despise...
Guest Cerebus Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 A good overview of the organization with links.

Vern Gagne Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 Some interesting things I heard on Foxnews. The type of explosive used in the attack is the kind used by the ETA. An attempted Christmas attack at a train station by ETA was stopped by authorities. ETA members where found with 66 bounds of the same explosive used in the attack.

They also said that there was no usual pre-attack phone warning, and that there was either more bombs or more attack locations ( I don't recall) than the ETA usually does.
Zorin Industries Posted March 14, 2004 Author Report Posted March 14, 2004 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/3509426.stm Al-Qaeda have claimed responsability
Guest MikeSC Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 Umm... that was in response to AS Mike. Wasn't really a reply to you. You were just last in line. which is? attack first? Which is that being nice to them won't make you any safer. EVERYBODY is in danger from those monkeys. Which protests would those be, Mike? Of the protests I have seen, both in front of the Popular Party headquarters and the office of the department heading up the investigation, the protests have all been "stating" that the handling of the investigation is being manipulated for political means. You do realize that there is an election tomorrow, right? Yup. They also stated that pain's support if the Iraqi war led to this, which shows that the left has no clue about how to handle this problem. They still subscribe to the childish "Well, if we're nice, they won't hurt us" mentality which is ignorant and short-sighted to a criminal degree. well lets see, if Spain handles like we did, they are going to bomb Iran. Well, if they can just target the gov't and churches that oppress the people there, I say we help them in that effort. What does the war on terrorism have to do with the war on Iraq? You still doubt a connection between terrorism and Iraq? That's cute. -=Mike

It's almost certainly Al Qaeda, those where just a few points I though i'd mention.
