Authorities are blaming ETA but they didn't issue a warning (like they usually do) and have yet to accept credit for the attack. There has been talk that a muslim group were behind the attack...what a world we are living in.

DUBAI (Reuters) - A letter purporting to come from Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network claimed responsibility for the train bombings in Spain on Thursday, calling them strikes against "crusaders," a London-based Arabic newspaper said.

"We have succeeded in infiltrating the heart of crusader Europe and struck one of the bases of the crusader alliance," said the letter which called the attacks "Operation Death Trains." There was no way of authenticating the letter, a copy of which was faxed to Reuters' office in Dubai by the London-based al-Quds al-Arabi newspaper.

The letter bore the signature "Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades." The newspaper received similar letters from the same brigade claiming responsibility on behalf of al Qaeda for a November bombing of two synagogues in Turkey and the August bombing of the U.N. headquarters in Baghdad.

Jesus Christ...how long before something like that happens in the UK. It truly is a scary world.

A timely reminder to all of us that it's not just the Middle East that needs to be looked at when it comes to Terrorism

Well, it looks like it was middle eastern terrorists who did it, so maybe not.

Let's hope that it doesn't.

However, I would LIKE to think that maybe these recent events have given you some insight into why we Americans act the way we do about terrorism.

True, but I believe that the Spanish Defense minister said yesterday that most of the clues were ponting towards ETA.

So either its ETA gearing up ther campaign or else Islamic Terrorism has finally come to Europe in strength, neither option is pleasent to think about

And apparently, the Spanish are the only people who think so.

Not a problem.

Of course, there have now been demonstrations stating that Spanish support of the war in Iraq caused the bombings.

Yup, nice to see that the left in those countries really get the whole point of this war on terror.

which is?

attack first?

Which protests would those be, Mike?

Of the protests I have seen, both in front of the Popular Party headquarters and the office of the department heading up the investigation, the protests have all been "stating" that the handling of the investigation is being manipulated for political means. You do realize that there is an election tomorrow, right?

Yup.

Pardon my ignorance, but could someone fill me into the details of ETA. What do the initials stand for? What is their problem? What are they trying to accomplish?

Since this tragedy, this was the first time I have ever heard of ETA, and I would like to know get a better understanding. Plus, this looks like another terrorist group to despise...

What does the war on terrorism have to do with the war on Iraq?

Some interesting things I heard on Foxnews.

The type of explosive used in the attack is the kind used by the ETA.

An attempted Christmas attack at a train station by ETA was stopped by authorities.

ETA members where found with 66 bounds of the same explosive used in the attack.

They also said that there was no usual pre-attack phone warning, and that there was either more bombs or more attack locations ( I don't recall) than the ETA usually does.

Umm... that was in response to AS Mike.

Wasn't really a reply to you. You were just last in line.

attack first?

Which is that being nice to them won't make you any safer. EVERYBODY is in danger from those monkeys.

Yup.

They also stated that pain's support if the Iraqi war led to this, which shows that the left has no clue about how to handle this problem. They still subscribe to the childish "Well, if we're nice, they won't hurt us" mentality which is ignorant and short-sighted to a criminal degree.

well lets see, if Spain handles like we did, they are going to bomb Iran.

Well, if they can just target the gov't and churches that oppress the people there, I say we help them in that effort.

What does the war on terrorism have to do with the war on Iraq?

You still doubt a connection between terrorism and Iraq?

That's cute.

It's almost certainly Al Qaeda, those where just a few points I though i'd mention.
