J. Hungerford Smith 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2004 Kurt Angle called the office this morning and said that the numbness has returned to his fingers. He is getting an MRI done to determine the cause of the problem, but at this point is off all shows. The decision to do the lottery as announced on Raw tonight was done before the word got out about Angle, so it was not a panic move because Smackdown is decimated on the heel side at this point and needs replenishing. Guest Choken One Report post Posted March 16, 2004 It's a shame that Angle is from the same mold as Flair...Refuses to quit and will let the business kill him... Dynamite's Paraylyzed Bret's Not all there and I'm scared that Kurt will be the first big name since Mike Dibiase to die in the ring itself.

Dynamite's Paraylyzed Bret's Not all there and I'm scared that Kurt will be the first big name since Mike Dibiase to die in the ring itself. To defend Bret, its more Goldberg fault the guy nearly got killed wrestling. I don't remember Bret having career threatening injuriesd before that. But Angle needs to retire, I agree. He's way too injury prone now and I don't mean minor things. Numbness in the hand is a bad sign considering he's broken his neck before.
NYU 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2004 Wow. It sure seems as if the shit has hit the fan all of a sudden. Well, with Shawn continuously taking the kind of amazingly hard-hitting back bumps he took tonight courtesy of Batista Bombs, he'll be added to the list in no time. However, I think people should hold off on jumping to conclusions right away. Let's wait to see what the MRI says before everyone starts instantly calling for Kurt's retirement, like what happens in every other injury thread about Angle. It was an accident, and Bret had many a concussion before then. Just so happened the one Goldy gave him was the final one.

Actually, Shawn's already working through a knee injury right now.
Guest gilpdawg Report post Posted March 16, 2004 I don't necessarily think he needs to retire just yet, not if he still loves doing what he does. I would NOT go on the road full-time in his condition however. If he insists on sticking around, hell, just work your 4 TV tapings per month and your 8 PPV's/year and be cool.(Depending on which roster he goes to next week) And just being at all the TVs doesn't mean he has to work a match at all these. Hell, I'd be happy with 2 or 3 Angle matches per month, if it prolonged his career. If he insists on being on the road full-time however, then he just needs to give it up. Either go part-time or quit.

Guest wrestlingbs Report post Posted March 16, 2004 Damnit. Goldberg and Lesnar I can live without. Goldberg never gave two shits about this business, and Brock sure as hell didn't understand it. But Angle... Angle is the true sucessor to Austin. He's carried this company through the past 4 years, even when the chips were down (Invasion, HHH era, lack of talent). Angle is one of the best, and it's sad for something like this to happen to the guy. If anybody deserves a standing ovation and NOT get booed, it's Kurt Angle. Styles 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2004 I think it's becoming crystal clear that Angle should have just gone with the traditional 1 year neck surgery. It would have sucked to miss the past year, but who knows how salvagable it is even at this point...

Yeah, but it took Austin another 4 years, Angle was already messed up again in 2 months...
Guest Brian Report post Posted March 16, 2004 The thing is, you never know. Angle's had problems with his neck for such a long time who knows how it would have turned out. And Austin was wrestling with problems, though they don't seem to be on Angle's level.

Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2004 Wasn't there's always a possibility this new form of surgery only worked for the short term, and Angle would have to retire sooner rather than later? No question it's a difficult choice. I'm sure even more so know that Brock Lesnar quit the company. Kurt seems very loyal to the WWE, and it wouldn't suprise me if Kurt gets the surgery... if it's needed and returns next year.
Cuban Linx 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2004 At this rate it won't be long until Kurt wrestles himself into a wheelchair. Judging from his past he'll probably rush back too quickly from this injury as well.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2004 Just make him the manager of the Worlds Greatest Tag Team and let it be over. There is really no point to him still wrestling anymore.
Guest Mulatto Heat Report post Posted March 16, 2004 Wasn't there's always a possibility this new form of surgery only worked for the short term, and Angle would have to retire sooner rather than later? Yes. The Jho surgery was only a stopgap procedure and, despite what the announcers told you, was always considered that. Its main asset was that it allowed for a much shorter recovery time - considering the pining that went on when Angle was on his way out and WAS out, I'm not surprised Kurt took this option. Angle would have needed more surgery down the line regardless and it would have meant no more wrestling. It seems that he has reached that point now.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2004 The Jho surgery doesn't mean that Angle can't get the fusion; fusion's still an option. Thing is, Angle probably should just retire instead of going for that. However, we know Angle...

haVoc 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2004 Good thing Eddie and Benoit are both Champions right now, because other wise I'd be in a depression over this Brock and Angle stuff. I have a nice balance.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2004 Didn't Angle HAD taken a shitload of chairshots just after his JHo surgery and was told specifically to cut back on that stuff, didn't and so had another spine fragmentation. And they were saying that at some point he would need to have that fixed up by more than just a scoping? Because I'm quite sure about a year ago we were saying he'd be gone in a year because of that incident. Not saying this is WHAT caused it, but something to add. Kurt Angle Mark 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2004 UPDATE Scherer is now reporting that Angle more than likely needs more neck surgery and it will probably be career-ending. This is what Schere actually wrote "The latest word I am getting on Kurt Angle is that most people within the company expect that the numbness in his hands will mean that he needs to get surgery on his already once-repaired neck. He is scheduled to undergo tests this week. The general consensus in the company is that Angle will need neck surgery and it could even be career ending for him. According to a number of people that I have spoken with, Angle hasn’t been his usual happy-go-lucky self backstage recently and it’s possible that if he does need neck surgery, he may decide to retire and not risk further damage after he has it. Obviously, nothing is set in stone yet but the situation is very serious."
