Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Greg's Previews at Yahoo! Movies reports that George Clooney is close to singing to play Magnum, P.I., which Universal Pictures and Imagine chairman Brian Grazer acquired the rights to last year. Also, the site says that LL Cool J may play the role of the series' helicopter pilot, Thomas "T.C." Calvin. The identities of the actors who might play Rick and Higgins are not yet known. The studio and Grazer hired scribe Michael McCullers to adapt the series for the big screen. McCullers and Mike Myers wrote the second and third installments of the "Austin Powers" trilogy. Tom Selleck became a star playing Thomas Magnum, a former Naval intelligence officer hired to head security at the estate of wealthy absentee owner Robin Masters. Magnum used the mansion as a base to work his own detective cases, employing the resources of the estate owner that included the signature red 308 GTS Ferrari. Magnum often clashed with estate caretaker Jonathan Higgins.
starvenger Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Clooney as Magnum could actually work. But can he recreate the moustache?
Guest El Satanico Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 This is a good casting choice, but it's not such a good idea for a movie.
Guest OctoberBlood Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Clooney as Magnum could actually work. But can he recreate the moustache? Easily. Aweesome news. Clooney rocks.
dubq Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 I hate hate hate George Clooney. I'd rather see near-60-yet-looks-40 Tom Selleck reprise his role as Magnum over Clooney!
Guest El Satanico Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Why do you hate Clooney? He has done his fair share of crappy roles, but he has also had alot of good roles. He's another Val Kilmer who's only as good as his director makes him be. However, when Val Kilmer is on he's better than Clooney when he's on.
razazteca Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Danny Devito should be Higgins or get someone with a real british accent.
2GOLD Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Tom Selleck should be Higgins. Give him a partial bald wig and let him go crazy.
DMann2003 Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Danny Devito should be Higgins or get someone with a real british accent. Anthony Hopkins as Higgins
Guest T®ITEC Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Anthony Hopkins would be.. perfect, in a weird way. Regardless, I'm psyched~ for this movie. I love Magnum PI.
Vyce Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Words can't begin to describe how much I loathe George Clooney. AWFUL casting choice, but then again it's not as if I'm going to be wasting my hard-earned money on this eventual piece of shit anyway.

A comparison between the two shitty Batmans.

Now if only they could've combined the two performances into one that used the strengths.

Now if only they could've combined the two performances into one that used the strengths. Agreed. However, I think if Clooney had a good script, he could have been a good Batman as well. I loved his Bruce Wayne. But the Batman part itself was written horrible in BATMAN AND ROBIN. As for Magnum . . . I'm actually kinda excited. On the surface it seems an odd casting decision, but as I think about it I like it more and more.
dubq Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Why do you hate Clooney? I really don't know what it is. I think it's less the amount of crappy roles he gets - and more the crappy acting he puts into ALL of his roles.
Swift Terror Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 So they've exhausted the 60s and 70s TV shows (I Spy, M.I., Charlies Angels, Flintstones, Starsky & Hutch, etc.) and now they're starting to mine the 80s for movie ideas... Can a big screen version of Murder She Wrote be far behind. Clooney is a legit star with legit screen presence...it's his off-screen persona that turns a lot of people off. Such as making fun of someone's terminal illness and the 9/11 fund debacle (showing up for the fund-raiser but failing to back it up when it was exposed that the funds weren't getting to the people).
WrestlingDeacon Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Clooney wants to make an A-Team movie and play Hannibal too. He's said in interviews that his three dream roles are to be Hannibal Smith, Thomas Magnum and Danny Ocean. Currently, they're working on an Ocean's 11 sequel, Ocean's 12 with Catherine Zeta Jones joining the cast. I think Tom Selleck would be good as the voice of Robin Masters. For Higgins you just need someone you can milquetoast and uptight to a T. David Hyde Pierce would be good actually or William Daniels if he's not considered too old. If they want to go the comedic route with Higgians, hire Eddie Izzard.
