More on Brock Lesnar's departure...

Recommended Posts

Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes

Forgive me incase this was already posted, but I don't think it was...

Brock Lesnar informed Vince McMahon of his decision to leave WWE two weeks ago. Vince then told Lesnar to take a week and think about it. When Brock still had his heart set on leaving the next week, Vince OKed it. Brock was set to beat Goldberg at WrestleMania, but WWE changed the finish to Goldberg winning even though Goldberg was also leaving. The reason for this was because WWE was apparently "angrier at Brock."

Brock and girlfriend Sable actually broke up the week before WrestleMania but have since worked things out and are back together.

Brock was said to be very embarrassed and "pissed off" at the reaction he got from the MSG crowd during his match. He left the building quickly after the bout and did not attend the post-WMXX party.

Brock's friends seem to believe that the whole NFL thing was more or less just an excuse for Brock to leave. Brock has apparently been fed up with the people in wrestling as well as all the games.

Gotta love that Brock Lesnar following his dream of football. Thats like me trying to play for the New York Knicks even though I lack any skills to be a pro B-ball player.

"The reason for this was because WWE was apparently "angrier at Brock." "

Brilliant.

Gotta love the logic of WWE Bookers

"OK, we'll have Goldberg win because Brock pissed us off more"

If that's the reason for the finish change because of being "angrier @ Brock" then this creative team has some issues...or Patteson one...or whoever is writing the finishes...

I still can't see why Brock is being loved because he had to feud with Holly. He's not the first. But since everyone says Brock has given back and jobbed so much, let me see all his feuds.

1.) The Hardy Boyz. SQUASH

2.) Rob Van Dam. Barely escaped Vengeance 02 IC Champ but still got killed @ KOTR.

3.) The Rock. Not much of a feud, but Brock goes over.

4.) Undertaker. He NC Brocks, but then jobs clean at the next PPV.

5.) Big Show. First person to finally pin Brock. Then Brock simply destroys him in every match after it.

6.) Team Angle. Squashed. Kurt Angle also had no chance in hell.

7.) John Cena. Also squashed.

8.) Chris Benoit. Jobbed to Brock and then shuffled to Raw.

9.) Hardcore Holly. Outside of the "I'm pissed off at Brock bit" where Brockw scared, he destroys Holly in 2 matches clean.

So lets see...Brock has yet to be on the short-end of the feud stick as he's won every blow-off to date.

I've been sympathizing less and less with Brock since the initial news came out. Yes, I could see how he would be annoyed with the Holly feud, but, as it has been said before, he felt above certain wrestlers since he was pushed so hard and so fast, and he got a big head as a result. I did say that he was jumping to conclusions by quitting and switching careers and I stand by that - even moreso now. The guy made A LOT of money from wrestling and WWE, and I wonder what WWE could have done in the time that they spent pushing and promoting someone since mid-2002, someone that was just going to take off on a whim less than two years later. It's not like when Hogan took off for WCW since he had made Vince boatloads of money beforehand. The same can't be said for Brock, despite a TV show, PPVs, DVDs and video games being centered around him.

A few old threads have contained comments about the MSG crowd being out of line by chanting "YOU SOLD OUT" to Brock. Honestly, I feel that if Brock announced he wanted time off and left it at that the chants wouldn't have been there. No, it was the NFL rumors that did it in. Most are wrestling fans first, football fans second (or not at all). Considering that WWE spent nearly two years telling the same people that he was something great, not all of whom wanted to agree at first (and some still don't), I don't blame them for feeling miffed that he was just going to take off, and to 'another team'. There was also absolutely no excuse for Brock to not give any effort at all. At least Goldberg was trying. I also don't believe that the crowd wanted to shit on everything they did - not when a few big moves (when they actually DID MOVES) got sizeable pops.

Dream match my ass.

More Lesnar fun-facts...MSG is the crowd tha put him over the top in popularity (SSeries 02) and it ended up being the same crowd completely turning on him. (WM XX).

All I can say is that I hope Brock made his money and stays healthy financally.

If he ever comes back, Vince is going to give him a gimmick where he's Spike Dudley's bitch and bury him so deep he'd have to dig up to reach DDP, post-Stalker angle.

It's really very funny that the WWE bookers were going to give Brock the win in the first place, even though he has been a major draw for the company, has made history throughout his tenure, they were told that he was leaving, but hoped that he's reconsider. He didn't, so they made him job clean because "they were angrier at Brock."

But then you have Bill Goldberg, with no real passion for in the industry, terrible workrate and was leaving also, when he shouldn't've even been brought into the company in the first place, and when he was, he did next to nothing. So they decide to give him the win, because he might be coming back, when he clearly won't be, and it will render WWE idiots as to who they sign for years to come.

WWE Logic = the complete and exact opposite of common sense.

Brock who?

Hopefully it's never like that.

But that's not to say that it won't.

They probably changed the finish to put the face over considering everything else in the world was pretty much even. Makes sense to me.

Anyway, long and short of Brock quitting was simply that he wasn't happy doing any more and decided to do something else with his life. How that is any different from any number of people who give up the business to do other things is beyond me. The you sold out chants are just about the silliest thing I have ever heard of in my life to be honest considering Brock's wasn't leaving wrestling because he was going to make more money somewhere else. It would be more accurrate at this point to say that he would be selling out to stay where he was simply because he got a push and more dough. That seems rather simple to me but its obviously still complex for those awful and extremely fickle New York fans

Bah.

A guy doesn't like his job and goes on to pursue something else.

If it was Jimmy the stockbroker and he went to be a shirmp boat captin or something, no biggie.

Brock spent all that time in the developmentals in once city, and he got to a real scedule and realized that this wasn't the job for him.

...

Think about this. The reason why Goldberg won the match could be because he is staying. I know that he is featured in the first WWE films project(that is a actual movie), so having him leave could be horrible for the project. Plus I don't think that the WWE would really promote anything Goldberg is in, if he is no longer with the company. But I guess you never know how they are going to deal with this and I could be thinking too far into it.

Preposterous.

1) Vince would probably have to pay Brock a decent amount, so why do that just to embarrass him? Plus, Brock would be a big name, so it'd just be insanely stupid on Vince's part to do that.

2) If Vince *was* that dumb, Brock would just a) not come back, or b) leave again.

This is Vince we're talking about. He did piss away a money feud in WWF vs. WCW just to stroke his own ego.

I had figured that they changed the finish because the odds of Goldberg coming back soon are greater than the odds of Brock coming back soon.

I said as much in this folder the day after Mania.

Can we send a memo informing Jim Ross of this little fact?

For what it's worth, GB actually DID something in their match. Brock brought the suck.

This is true. And when the hell did you ever think you'd see the day where you'd be typing about how in a match between Brock Lesnar and Goldberg, it would be Goldberg that was the only guy actually putting in any sort of effort and using actual moves. Weird.

Ha. I thought about putting in a little crack at JR but decided to just let it be...

Anyway, long and short of Brock quitting was simply that he wasn't happy doing any more and decided to do something else with his life. How that is any different from any number of people who give up the business to do other things is beyond me.

Not all of that number of people have had the company they work for invest a very significant portion of funds, time, effort, promotion, etc. into them. Brock was a long-term project. Like I said, Vince could have spent the time shoving Brock down the throats of every fan pushing someone else if it was going to come down to this, but hindsight is 20/20 and all that. I mean, when Benoit's push started up again back in November, wwe.com flat out stated that when he came back in 2002 he could not be pushed because it was all about Brock. Everything, flushed down the toilet.

Think about this. In 5 minutes, write down all those you can think of that either of those two guys who were standing at the end of WM XX jobbed to back in WCW. THAT was mistreatment, and it makes Brock's grievances look rather trivial in comparison.

Brock will come crawling back to the 'fake sport' that he respects so much.
