I noticed last night while playing an interleague game against the Giants that if you rename the white power LFer of the Giants to "Barry Bonds" they'll call him "Bonds" when he comes to the plate. I thought that was a nice touch. Its still a markout moment to hear "Kuiper" in a video game. The name sounds exactly the same as mine.

Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted May 25, 2004 So I just had something weird, awesome, frustrating, and so on - just happen. I'm being no hit by Randy Johnson in the 5th inning. Somehow I manage to get back to back infield singles by Larkin and Griffey. So, I have 2 on with no out. Down 3-0, against the Big Unit. Kearns on a 2-2 pitch nailed one deep, but playable to right field. RFer Jay Gibbons (D'Backs traded for him) has it in sights... he catches .. no .. he bobbles .... wait! HE HELD ON!`11. WTF?! Yeah, it was awesome to see on the replay. The ball bounced off of his glove into the air... off of his shoulders, down his arm, and back into his glove! Something you'd actually see in a real game. I was in shock to see this in a video game. Thought it was amazing. Bad news for me tho... I was tagging up with Larkin. The annoucers really screwed me up a bit. First, I thought he caught the ball .. so I timed it, and headed to 3rd with Barry. Then the annoucers said "Oh he drops the ball" .. so I just took off with Jr too..... bad choice. He didn't "drop the ball" .. he still has it! So, once he now has it in his glove, the annoucer says "and he's out" or something. I was screwed. I got Griffey back thankgod, since he threw the ball to 2nd to double off Larkin, but man .. that was one crazy turn of events. Never seen that happen in a video game before. Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted May 25, 2004 I lined a baseball off of a pitcher's head and not only did he stay in the game but he was the one who went over, grabbed it, and threw me out at first. That's the weird moment I've had.

That's the weird moment I've had. I've had that happened too. But I didn't hit it. I was pitching. Lidle is a toughie. When I slowed down the replay, his neck snapped very quickly. It was pretty funny.

A Happy Medium 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2004 Yeah, I had a line drive bounce of my pitchers noggin as I had runners at second and first with no outs...luckily I was able to pick up the ball and get the force at third. Wish sure that would have injured, but eh, it all worked out.

Regarding lining off the pitcher I managed to injure Tim Wakfield by lining one of his pitching hand. Thank god I think he was going on like 17 shutout innings on me. Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted May 27, 2004 yup. Reason being the AI doesn't make major adjustments that a person can when something keeps happening. Like you may be able to strike 2 guys out in a row on an 0-2 count with a splitter down in the dirt. Well come that third time the batter won't swing at the 0-2 splitter in the dirt, so you make it a fastball down out of the strikezone and they take it for a ball. Then you throw the splitter down in the dirt and they strike out on the 1-2 count. Knowing what the game is going to do before it does it just makes it too easy. Question: If you use your pitcher for any length of time after he's down to 30% (I've never seen mine go lower) --- do they ever get injured due to it? I don't trust my AAA bullpen all that much. -=Mike

Guest AllCanadian Report post Posted May 28, 2004 I have had pitchers go down to like 10% many times with no injuries, so i'd say probably not. How do you ever manange to throw a strike at 10%?? Good to know about the non injury part considering I'm in September and am hell bent on getting into the playoffs injury free. Well until Orlando Hudson decided to pull his hammy legging out a F'N ground ball.

Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2004 (edited) I have had pitchers go down to like 10% many times with no injuries, so i'd say probably not. How do you ever manange to throw a strike at 10%?? Actually, quite simple. Just click and then don't power up, but make sure it is your best pitch that you have the most control on and you should be fine. I'm making the assumption though. I've never been over 100 pitches with any of my starters. I usually get the quick 2 strike count making them get out (via ground, air, or strike out) via the breaking ball. It's the Benetton of TSM. Anywhoo --- how did Cartman get a pitcher down to 10? I've had guys at 30 and not go below that --- even with more pitching. -=Mike Doing the math, you'd need to throw 100 consistant pitches. 110-120 if you got a fine pitcher. Got a guy like Randy Johnson and it's probably 130. Only assuming though. Edited May 29, 2004 by Lightning Flik
Cartman 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2004 It was in a AA game with a weak pitcher. The game went to 14 innings, and I just kept the starter out there to see how long I could keep his shutout going... I lost in the 14th...
Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted May 29, 2004 Haha. No way would I do that. They start smoking the ball around the 30% area. I normall get them out around 40%, unless it's a blowout.

Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted May 29, 2004 My rotation in year 2 is currently: Cory Lidle. rhp Zach Day, rhp Brandon Claussen, lhp Matt Belisle, rhp Luke Prokopec, rhp Cory Lidle, I created last year exactly how someone at OS posted him, and I he went 16-5, 2.52 and won the NL Cy Young. Heh. So, I signed him up long term (although, he is 33 now) since I can pitch with him pretty well. Zach Day I signed as a Free Agent. He's 26, and had a 3.81 era last year in 20 starts before getting hurt. I like his stuff. He got a 4 year / 1,522 deal. Brandon Claussen was very good late in the season. He lost his rotation spot mid-season after posting a near 6 era, so I moved him to the bullpen and put Jung Bong in the rotation. He did a fine job, and so did Claussen in his new role. Around August, I put Claussen back into the rotation, and Bung back to the pen to give him another shot, and since I like Bong out of the pen better. He proceeded to finish with 4 comeplete games and 3 shutouts. Finished with a 4.25 ERA. Matt Belisle pitched great in the closers role last year at Triple A. At first, I was gonna bring him up for a bullpen spot this year, but since I opted to let Acevedo and Harang go, I had a spot in the rotation open, so Belisle has it. Sucks that this game doesn't keep minor league stats after 1 year, or even major league stats after 2 years, so I don't remember exactly what his numbers were, but they were impressive. Luke Prokopec also pitched great in Louisville, but in the rotation. He was called up late last year when Harang went on the DL, and pitched 2 perfect innings in 1 game. He'll be our #5. I revamped my bullpen and bench, after being eliminated in the 1st round to Bonds and Giants in 5 games. Mike Matthews, lhp Chad Bentz, lhp John Riedling, rhp Danny Graves, rhp Jung Bong, lhp Ryan Wagner, rhp, closer Mike Matthews (lhp) earned an extension after appearing in 79 games (119innings) while sporting a 3.09 era with 92 Ks! He was big for me. Chad Bentz (lhp) was signed as a FA after pitching 22 innings last year for Montreal. I also like his pure stuff, and he's only 24. He improved a bit in Spring Training as well. He'll be mainly situational, unless he proves me other wise. John Riedling (rhp) also earned an extension after closing alot of games, and pitching 76 innings [66gms] with a 2.36 era. He's the #1 setup guy in the pen. Ryan Wagner (rhp) takes over the Closers role for Danny Graves this year. Wagner threw 80 innnigs sporting a 2.45 era. Danny Graves (rhp) was almost traded in the off season, but the Blue Jays couldn't find the right match to send to Cincinnati. I was really trying to ship him out, heh, but no one would take him, manily due to salary. Graves saved 30 games last year, but also blew around 8, and lost his closers job to Riedling, and now Wagner. I'll most likely ship him out before the break since Joe Valentine is ready in Louisville. Jung Bong (lhp) is the 3rd lefty in the pen. Since he really can get anyone out, it doesn't matter. He started a few games last year and did a great job in long relief/set up spotting a 3.03 era in 86 Innings. Lineup is pretty much the same as it was last year, but hopefully D'Angelo can stay off the DL. 01. D'Angelo Jiminez, sh, 2b 02. Ben Broussard, lh, 1b 03. Austin Kearns, rh, rf 04. Adam Dunn, lh, lf 05. Ken Griffey Jr, lh, cf 06. Brandon Larson, rh, 3b 07. Adam Everett, rh, ss 08. Michael Barrett, rh, c That's my main lineup, although Freel will see alot of starts against lefties at SS, and Pena will start in the OF with Dunn at 1st or Jose Leon simply starting at 1st against lefties. Adam Everett was signed as a FA to be the SS when Larkin left. Barrett came over in a trade last year with a minor leaguer involving Sean Casey. Bench: Wily Mo Pena, rh Javier Valentin, sh Ryan Freel, rh Juan Castro, rh Jose Leon, rh Chris Magruder, sh My bench is very very flexable. Wily Mo Pena can play all three OF spots along with some emergency 3B if needed. Valentin can catch and play 1st base. Freel can play any position basically, heh. Castro can play all infield positions. Leon can play 1st and 3rd and Magruder plays the corner OF spots. Not to mention, Broussard can play left and 1st. Dunn can play left and 1st, Larson can play left and 1st, and Barrett can catch and play 1st as well. So I got alot of late inning opportunities. Oh, and since the game does get pretty easy even on the highest levels with realistic sliders, I normally play 1 or 2 games out of a series, and sim the remaining game or games. And I play most of my minor league games. See, I stayed away from all the super stars, and just signed role players and a youngster or two. No one cares, but I thought I'd share.
