Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2004 (edited) Pudge does suck. Surprisingly he sucks quite a bit. Hell, Orlando Cabrera fucking rocks and he shouldn't be... Lots of weirdness goes on in this game. God dammit. I had Luis Ayala throw a single pitch and the bastard went down with minor tendanitice. So I lose my Set Up pitcher for 12 more days. *thinks about how often I actually use Ayala* ...maybe that's not a bad thing. Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Playoffs have begun finally. Delgado won MVP (Chipper Jones in the NL) and Halladay won the Cy Young (Pettite in the NL). Both are free agents at the end of the year. The Jays are playing Kansas City in the Divisional Playoffs (Boston vs. Seattle in the other). The Fisher Cats are playing the Sea Dogs. The Skychiefs are playing golf.

Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Here's another question for all you baseball gamers. How long a season do you play, and how many games do you sim?... I've played all my games so far for my MLB team. I don't play my AA and AAA teams. Yet, the Edmonton Trappers and the Montreal Expos are dominating their respective leagues and shoe-ins for playoffs and title contenders. The Senators are probably watching hockey in the off-season. And I jinxed myself when I said 70 before the all-star break as I took three key losses to do that. Took me like 7 games after I said that to finally get the 3 wins needed to get to 70 wins. Oh, and how many people did you manage to get in the all-star game? I got 8. Chris Morris(SP - Starter for the NL), Livan Hernadez(SP - reserve), Wes Helms(3B - Starter), Jose Vidro (2B, reserve), Juan Riveria (RF, but played CF - Starter), Orlando Cabrera (SS - Starter for the NL), Zach Day (SP - reserve), Tomo Ohka (SP - reserve), and Rocky Biddle (CP, but played LHP - reserve). I think that's kinda unrealistic. I mean, 8 players from the Montreal Expos? Uh, no. Oh, and I made a huge trade: MON - Jose Vidro (2B) and Ron Calloway (LF) for ATL - Marcus Giles (2B) and D. Wright (RP). Made this trade seeing as both players were roughly hitting for the same amount, and Giles would free up some cash for me. So now I have enough to re-sign Cabrera if I want to. Happy days.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 I like that trade. I play about 95% of my MLB games. I'll play a AAA game from time to time if the big club has an off day. I'm looking forward to work my magic in the postseason. Various ideas include installing Kevin Millwood as closer, or pinch hitting for my pitcher EVERY time at bat. Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 W00T~! Al liked the trade! Happy days! Seriously though, I realized I wasn't going to be keeping some people, and I'd rather give up Vidro and get a better player that is also "younger". Cabrera might still be gone after this season, I'll have to check who's a free agent after this season. It's going to be interesting in the next 70 games. And I really want to upgrade from Tomo Ohka. Anyone have any idea of someone I can get that would be a good pick up? As Ohka just blows games and kills me.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 I play most of my MLB games, but if my 5th starter is going on the last game of a 4 game series, 9/10 times I sim it. I also simmed pretty much the entire month of September in my first season since I had the division pretty much locked up. I brought up Robert Person from the Pawsox just to give him some big league time, since he's 35 and probably retiring soon, and he's given up 3 runs total in 3 starts (about 20 IP). I've pretty much relegated Kim to long relief until Person cools down. Schilling would be running away with the Cy Young if it wasn't for Randy Johnson (who the Yankees acquired for Soriano in the offseason) having an even better year than Schilling. Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 Nevermind on the Ohka question. Traded: MON - Tomo Ohka For STL - Danny Haren And then I turned around and sign Danny for 166 points for 3 years! HA~! At least I'm one pitcher great on my pitching staff now.
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 Well it's 2007 for my Astros team and I've unlocked a few legends to pitch for the majors. A starting rotation of Nolan Ryan, Whitey Ford, Roy Oswalt, Jeriome Robertson, and Brandon Backe has me 42-14 and about 13 game ahead. My lineup doesn't have any legends, but with Morgan Ensberg, Adam Everett, Jeff Kent, and Jeff Bagwell all over 10 homers as of right now I've got some pop in the lineup. My AA team is kicking ass too, although my AAA team is hovering around the .500 mark. All in all life is good if you're an Astros fan in my universe.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 Well, Marcus Giles was such a worthy pick up compared to Vidro that I've signed him for two more years. The guy just kills the ball, getting like ten homers in the last six games, and went 4 for 5 last game with 3 HRs and a ton of RBIs. The guy is incredible! ...except his defense is a little suspect, but hey. When I'm hitting so well that I don't need to worry about my defense, I consider that awesome~! And some how, Armas Jr. went down from 1k in points to just his regular buying price, so I resigned him as well. Thanks to that, I managed to sign most of my lineup back! This is so great. I actually ain't rebuilding next season!
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 Well, I just bought this game a few days ago, based on what I'd heard. I have to say that at first, I really didn't like the hitting engine, as I'm used to All-Star Baseball, (even if I haven't played that for quite a while), and it's more satisfying to get the little power thing right on the ball for a home run. Also, I really don't like that you can't turn off the little replay that shows what you did every time you swing and miss. Yes, I was behind the ball. I GET IT! However, I am warming up to the game; even the hitting, and I find myself drawn to play it more and more. I am 0-8 so far on my dynasty on all-star with the Orioles, but 5 of those have been against the Red Sox, and I'm getting closer as time goes on.
MrRant 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 One thing I've noticed (at least for me) is that if I don't play the game at least every other day and come back to it like a week later or so my timing goes all to hell.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 One thing I've noticed (at least for me) is that if I don't play the game at least every other day and come back to it like a week later or so my timing goes all to hell. Latest problem I had. I was getting smacked up silly. Add in the lack of defense from Giles (since he sucks defensively) and I'm hacked up for hits. Not fun. And I poise to you TSMers that love Baseball, a great question. Would you want to face a club that has 4 30HR hitters? Because I've got 4 of them. Mind you, two came from different teams, but still. Would you? I don't think I would. So I simmed into my next season just for fun, and I was blown out of the playoffs by the Cubs (who of course lost to the Sox). Then I watched as most of my great players I had gotten had their stuff crashed and burned through spring training. That was great stuff. Oh and the more goals you complete (3 and 1 year) the more points you get to spend. Nice stuff.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2004 God bless this move. Runner on 2nd. Batter hits a pop fly on the third base side. Their 3B goes to catch it and I notice no one is covering the bag! So I steal the bag on a pop foul.
Eclipse 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2004 I had just gotten PS2 the other day, and of course, I have not played a great baseball game for a while. I heard only good things about this game, so I picked it up. I love the game, but I still gotta get used to most of the controls... -I haven't played a game in which throwing the baseball is pressure sensitive. I still just slightly press it, and then I forget that's a weak throw in this game. PLENTY of runners were safe because of that...LOL -I love the pitching system. One of the most creative yet. -Batting is hard in this game....well, for me at least. This game is so detailed. You have your dual sticks acting as an aiming tool when you bat. -Fielding is more fun with having the sticks acting as your diving and wall jumps. Crazy... Everytime someone hits their 10th HR, I get an email telling me how they're the first person in the majors to hit 10. Is this happening to anyone else? IT's not as bad as when you get someone who hits over 15 triples. Every triple after that I get an e-mail saying that Orlando Cabrera will hit 22 before the end of the season. MrRant 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2004 I would just like to say that Andruw Jones owns in this game. He is just a home run hitting monster.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2004 I'm pretty damn good with Orlando Cabrera and Wes Helms. Both men are on pace for 50 HRs this season. I'm also pretty good with Giles too. I was good with Rivera, but he's kinda peaked off a little bit and I'm not hitting them as good with him. Kinda sucks though that I've only got like one other guy hitting home runs (Edward James) that is over 10. Hell, I've got a lot of people on my team that don't hit homers. Thankfully, they are on the basepaths for when I do, so I win games. That's a major reason why I win. If I get homers, I win. Thankfully, I won like 90+ thanks to homers. Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2004 Well. It appears that I finally clinched a playoff position and the division. Took me 128 games and a record of 102-26 to do so, but now that this is done, I think I might meddle with my last starting position and sit a couple of pitchers out and let some of my bullpen have a whack at pitching 5 innings or so. But at least the playoffs are looming a bit closer.
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2004 All right, I've been playing the game a lot more, and I got in the groove a little bit. I really like the game overall now. However, when I was playing tonight, and I realized that I'm kind of anal-retentive about stats on sports games. First, I wanted to check out how many holds my middle relievers had, only to find that the stat wasn't even included in the game. They show how many doubles a guy has given up, but holds which are a pretty basic stat aren't included. Then, I wanted to see how Chase Utley has been doing since I traded for him, to see if I should send him down because I kind of wanted to call up another starter. However, there are no game log or last month stats or even stats with the ballclub to check. Finally, I was looking at the different goals that give you MVP points and since one of them was have the fewest errors, and my little glove icon said I was first in defense, I thought I'd see how many errors my team had versus the other teams, but short of actually adding up the errors each player has, you can't do it. You can only compare stats player by player, not team by team. Now granted, these are minor gripes, and the game was known for not being as deep stat-wise as ASB. Overall, I still like the game better because of the pitching/fielding system, and the greater minor league interaction. I find managing my minor league games to be the perfect distraction from the grind of playing 162 ML games. I just thought it was funny that I would actually miss these small features and extraneous stats. Since I usually skip at least one year in sports franchises I buy, MVP 2004 will probably be my baseball game for another year and a half or so, but I really hope that they fix some of these minor things by the time MVP 2006 comes out. There's no reason to leave in little problems like that with the number of beta testers they employ on a game like this. Note: Oh, and speaking of glitches, one thing that really bugs me is that a starting pitcher doesn't have to throw five innings to get a win. That's a fundamental rule of baseball that shouldn't be ignored in a major game.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2004 They need to fix the save rule as well. If the tying run is on deck, its a save situation. The game only recognizes a 3 runs lead or less.
