The audience was literally doing nothing and there had to be a couple thousand people there watching it. Weird Al Yankovic (State Theater: Portland, Maine): Good. WJBQ Q Concert, Vertical Horizon, Eifel 65, Vitamin C, Train, Westlife and Big Bad Voodo Daddy (Cumberland County Civic Center:Portland, Maine): OK at the time, horrible looking back it. WJBQ Jingle Ball; Third Eye Blind, Sister Hazel, Soul Decision, Dido, Samantha Mumba, The Coors, No Authority and Evan and Jaron (Cumberland County Civic Center, Portland, Maine): Horrible. The Drifters (Freyeburg fair ground, Freyeburg, Maine): Pretty good set of oldies. Paul Rodgers with Kansas opening up (Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom, Hampton Beach, New Hampshire), Kansas was meh but Paul Rodgers kicked ass. Every concert was in Oslo uless I've noted otherwise. Sometime in 93 or 92 - De Lillos (Pretty big Norwegian band at the time, who, for some reason was travelling around doing mostly free school gigs). Too young to really get into it, but looking back it was really good. 93 - Bon Jovi in Oslo Spektrum during their Keep the Faith tour. Loved it at the time. 94 - Meat Loaf in Oslo Spektrum. Damn good. Weirdest audience I've ever been a part of, with about half being 14 to twenty and the other half 30 to 45. 95 - Isle of Calves festival - Among others, Moby, Rage Against the Machine, Bad Religion, Bjõrk and Neil Young. 2000 - Sonata Arctica/Rhapsody/Stratovarius in Mars. Sonata actually stole the show. Rhapsody's vocalist was a little off, which reduced him to merely good rather than great (though he really should learn how to pronounce English...). Stratovarius were rock solid, though they got a little upstaged by Sonata (who had their AMAZING debut album to perform). 2000 - Iron Maiden in Spektrum during their Brave New World tour. Should have been supported by Halford, but he canceled for some reason (sickness, I think), so we got Entombed instead. Not my kind of music at all, but I could hear they were good. Poor guys got "We want Maiden"-chants halfway through the show, and throughout... Maiden, on the other hand, were downright amazing. Possibly the best concert of the lot. No "Run To The Hills", though, which irks me to this day... 2000 - Joe Cocker in Spektrum. Weird show for me, since my father should have been there, but was busy dying of cancer in the hospital. Cocker was damn good for a senior citizen, though. 2001 - Freedom Call/Virgin Steele/Hammerfall in Rockefeller. I'd never heard of Freedom Call, and Hammerfall (the main attraction) was a sheer bonus for me. Virgin Steele delivered, Freedom Call proved an excellent live-band, and Hammerfall were immeasurably better on stage than on album. Plus, this was quite possibly the best audience I've ever been in - amazingly hot for EVERYTHING. VS' guitarist walked around among the audience for some reason after the show. Great guy. 2001 - Elton John in Spektrum with the Big Picture tour. Very well done.40-year olds leaving their seats and rushing to the stage during "Saturday Night's All Right For Figthing" in suits and dresses was a damn weird sight. 2001 - Ratt/Dio/Alice Cooper in Spektrum during the Monsters Unleashed tour. Ratt was so-so, Dio was very good and Cooper was classic, running through most of Brutal Planet before being guilliotined and hitting ALL the classics, except Elected and Hey Stoopid, for some reason. Heck, he even played "I Love The Dead". 2002 - Entwined/some other guys/Theatre of Tragedy in Rockefeller. Quite good, though not my kind of music. Entwined or the other guys (I was never quite sure wich were wich, since they kept on changing the lineup on the posters...) were quite entertaining, sounding like a less commercial variant of HIM, or possibly just the slowest Power Metal imaginable. The other of the two played good Death Metal, but I really don't go for that. They were most notable for having the most useless band member of the night, a keyboardist who did absolutely nothing of note, except playing the same fucking note over and over. Theatr had a really good concert, but only played songs from the last two albums, which was quite a shame. Especially since you could have switched thir male singer for E-Type and no-one would have noticed. Seriously. 2002 - Some band/Blaze/Savatage in Rockefeller during the Poets and Madmen tour. Should have been in 2001, but Savatage delayed the tour due to 9/11. Well worth the wait. The first band was all right, but obviouslynothing special, since I can't remember them. Blaze tried REALLY, REALLY hard, and got a good show out of teh salt statues he'd been touring with, but Savatage... My favorite band put on what might be my favorite concert. The new singer was really good, and John Oliva was back in ols shape for his parts. 2003 - Dream Evil/Vicious Rumors/Hammerfall in Rockefeller. Sparta, Mindless Self Indulgence, and a few others sound pretty good....but Ill agree that its not the best Coachella lineup ever... Lollapalooza looks better, imo... If it's the latter, I've been to more in the last 3 years than some people have listed for their entire lives, and I went to a ton more in my younger years. APC sucked ass, but I must say, they have a lot of hot goth-skanks in their fanbase. Mars Volta was 40 times better than I could have ever expected. Please, if the tour stops by your town, you owe it to yourself to see Mars Volta live. It was simply incredible, and I do not feel the performance I witnessed will be topped any time soon. haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 Guess I'll contribute my 2 cents to the best of my memory (can't remember all exact dates): 1997: Eve 6, Our Lady Peace, and Third Eye Blind - worth noting is that after Our Lady Peace finished their set, well over half the crowd left. I ended up staying until the end. 2000: Some all-girl Christian Pop group (reminded me of the old P. Diddy group "Dream" except they were all legal), and Carmen - went with a friend and his on again/off again girlfriend, as well as a girl I was trying to hook up with at the time. Surprisingly decent show. 2005: Some no-name female country singer, Blake Shelton, and Rascal Flatts - literally dragged to this, kicking and screaming, by my ex-girlfriend. Blake Shelton who I had never heard of at the time, wasn't unbearable, even though I can't stand country music. Rascal Flatts was just kind of there, and LOUD AS FUCK. They closed the show with country-fied covers of "You Give Love A Bad Name", and "Pour Some Sugar on Me". 9/12/2006: Division, Epica, and Kamelot - Still the best show I have ever seen, Kamelot became my favorite metal band at this show. I can't even describe how enjoyable this was. Division kicked all sorts of ass for a local band. Epica played a fun set, and their singer is just gorgeous. She took a break about half-way through the set, and the band did a kickass cover of Death's "Crystal Mountain". About 10 minutes after Epica finished, Kamelot came up and played for about an hour and a half. The amazing thing about their set was unbeknownst to Roy Khan, his mic was dead for about the first 30-40 seconds of their first song "When the Lights Are Down". So that they didn't have to stop the show, he just sang as loudly as he could, and you could hear him fairly well over the rest of the background music. Khan's mic kicked in just before they went to the first chorus, and he was still singing as though his mic was dead, and he damn near shattered my eardrums. Kamelot more or less played a "greatest hits" set, and made me a fan for life. One of the other highlights of Kamelot's set was during "March of Mephisto", when Epica's Mark Jansen came on stage to do the death grunts during the chorus, since Dimmu Borgir's Shaggrath wasn't on tour with Kamelot. I couldn't hear well for about 4 days due to my friend deciding it was a good idea to sit next to their 10-foot speakers, but DAMN I had a good time! 12/5/2006: Leave's Eyes and Blind Guardian: I had never heard of Leave's Eyes, but they played a good set. They only played for about 20-25 minutes, which was disappointing. They were filming footage for their still unreleased DVD, so between every song, their backup deathgrunt guy Alex Krull would yell stuff like "WHO WANTS TO BE ON MY DVD MOTHERFUCKERS?!?!?!?!", and "SHOW ME YOUR HANDS FOR MY FUCKIN' DVD, YEA!!!!!!". Still an overall good set, despite the colorful language. I had always heard good things about Blind Guardian, but I guess they were just having a bad night. They just seemed to be going through the motions, and weren't into their set much. 11/17/2007: Paradise Lost and Nightwish: I'm not much into PL, so I just kind of stood there for the majority of their set. Nightwish took about an hour to get on stage after PL finished, but played a hell of a show. They did several of the old Tarja songs with their new singer, Annette, and she did a very good job with them. A fun show overall, even though the Masquerade in Atlanta has very poor air conditioning and I felt like the floor was going to fall out from under me and minute.
