The Metal Maniac Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 You know the ones I mean. They've got the band, on a stage, in front of a crowd - but it's not live. It's just them synching up to the song that's already on the album. Does that bug anyone else? I hate it. It comes across as awfully lazy, and it's usually pretty obvious when it isn't live. I'd much perfer that the video either have them actually playing live, or just be the band in front of anything else. I just don't like the cop-out feel to the things. Anyone else feel this way?
Guest Vitamin X Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 Yes I do. Quite strongly. When was the first time a band's done that?
5_moves_of_doom Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 I've got a video of the Clash doing "I Fought the Law"... and I always LOVED the video. It's quite phenominal. But then a friend informed me that it was just a promo video or something. I think it was in their movie, but I don't think they lip-synched. Either way, I was dissapointed that it was just for a movie instead of an actual concert.
spiny norman Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 I would say yes, but ACDC's video for Thunderstruck was pretty awesome. And there are a couple of others that work, but I agree, the overwhelming majority are not good.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 I've got a worse one. So...you know Hillary Duff? She has that video where she steals the guys shirt and takes pictures of people wearing it...you know...to mock him I guess. Anyway...I'm watching MTV and the song comes on....but with clips of her singing it live (or you know...lypsincing it in front of an audience). Here's the kicker...it's actually titled (Live Version)...and yet...it's the same prerecorded track.
Paul Stanley Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 On my Judas Priest DVD they play at 'Top Of The Pops' and im all syched up because it's a live Living After Midnight(again) and then i hear it, and its the LP track, lip synching with guitars and all. Aerosmith, Bob Seger and many have all done it too many years ago.
Nighthawk Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 Yes, I hate it as well. I really have no other comments, but I do.
Ripper Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 Yes, I hate it as well. I really have no other comments, but I do. Fuck, man, I came in this thread for your comments and you bring the nothing. You're slipping. You were my hero...now what? The dream is dead man...dead. *looks back at da dream teary eyed, cuts off the lights and closes the door behind me*
Nighthawk Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 I'm sorry. You can click this instead, if that helps.
SamoaRowe Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 I hate it when normally heavy rock bands have one more mellow track and they release it as a video featuring footage of them performing on stage and looking really tired while touring. It's such a cliche, it pisses me off.
The Electrifyer Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 Anyway...I'm watching MTV and the song comes on....but with clips of her singing it live (or you know...lypsincing it in front of an audience). I'm guessing all those voice enhancers and producers can't alter her live performances like if she were in the studio. I saw her Live @ MuchMusic and oh boy did she suck at those performances. Everything was lip-synched and everything looked completely fake.
Red Baron Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 Whats even worse is when bands pull of live albums, which is completly done in the studio.
Nevermortal Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 Whats even worse is when bands pull of live albums, which is completly done in the studio. Type O Negative's "Origin of the Feces" is the exception to this rule.
The Metal Maniac Posted March 25, 2004 Author Report Posted March 25, 2004 Yeah, but didn't they just do that because they're cheap bastards and decided to keep most of the money the company gave them? And didn't they put in boos instead of cheers?
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 They put a bomb threat on there, too. It's really a masterpiece of studio production.
Guest Mindless_Aggression Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 To be fair a lot of bands do the live video thing because they can't really afford to do a proper video. And I guess a bunch of random live shots is a bit more interesting than the band standing in front of a wall or something.
Nighthawk Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 You can make a perfectly acceptable video for as much or less than a fake live video, you just have to be creative. Look at some of the first music videos, they cost nothing, but were more interesting than crowd shots. Just have some half naked girls dancing, they're cheap.
