BorneAgain 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2004 I haven't seen a lot of Criminal Intent, but from what people tell me Vincent D'Onofrio is fantastic on it. The orginal is good, but the format is too rigid and predictable though. In the past few months I've become a huge Special Victim's Unit fan, largely because the stories are pretty dark and the acting whether from the main cast or the guest stars (Julie Hagerty from a few weeks ago is a good example) is solid. I've also become an SVU fan in the last few months, mostly thanks to Mariska Hargitay (she's gorgeous; to think she's 40...Wow). The subject matter can be bothersome to some, but from watching older episodes on USA, the writing has gotten stronger. I've only seen bits and pieces of the original L&O and haven't gotten into it. Same for CI but I also hear good things about D'Onofrio (who's a great actor).
Guest T®ITEC Report post Posted March 25, 2004 I watch SVU whenever it's on. I enjoy it because there's so many ex-Oz actors on it... Pretty nice.

Though for me it was initially weird seeing Christopher Meloni go from the Keller character to the suburban family man Stabler.
Vyce 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2004 I love the original. I've seen pretty much every episode of the series (no simple thing, as it's been running for something like 13 years or more), and still love it. I watch it almost every single day and I've YET to grow tired of it. SVU is a fine program, although truth be told, more often than not I get annoyed with Meloni's Stabler character (it seems as if he tries too hard to be a badass). I INTENSELY dislike Criminal Intent. Probably because I absolutely LOATHE the Donofrio character. He's written like a modern day Sherlock Holmes, and I fucking HATE it. Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted March 25, 2004 I like SVU cause it's pervy. Plus the mega hot lawyer. Although I'll agree on Stabler being irritating. I always laugh when he freaks out in interrigation and calls the guy a pussy or something. Now Criminal Intent I love, mainly cause of D'Onofrio. I get a kick out of a borderline autistic detective. But I do know a lot of people like Vyce who can't stand him. The original is still good, but it seems like every new episode now is something the've already done. And Sam Waterson is rapidly pissing me off.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2004 I INTENSELY dislike Criminal Intent. Probably because I absolutely LOATHE the Donofrio character. He's written like a modern day Sherlock Holmes, and I fucking HATE it. That's how I feel, though I'm a bit less vehement than you. I can watch one here and there. I would rather watch Monk for an obsessive detective who's always right, at least he doesn't garner confessions by cocking his head to one side. I also don't like how it was billed as being more from the criminal perspective, and it's really not at all. SVU is the one I watch most often, though only in reruns. I like Chris Meloni as an actor, so I can sort of forgive the way he tries too hard. Ice T's always good too. It seems like they overreact too much though. Every thing that happens, it's "Oh this is so terrible. The world is sick, I don't know if I can take it anymore." Real cops do get used to their job eventually. I've only seen a handful of episodes of the original. It seemed alright, I could watch more.
Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted March 25, 2004 I love all three, and have for years. I've probally seen every single episode of the two newer ones, and getting there on the original. I watch anyime they are on, and like I said, been that way for years. I can't get enough of these shows. My favorite is CI.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2004 I've never seen Criminal Intent, so I can't comment on it. I will admit that I'm only a casual watcher of the other two, but every time I leave it on for more than 5 minutes, I'm sucked in. I watched CSI: Miami for the first time last week, and the same thing happened. The thing about these police procedural dramas is that while they may have some running threads, they're pretty much self contained stories and you don't have to understand what has happened before to understand the story. C Dubya 04 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2004 I just recently found Law & Order and must say that I'm very impressed. I like how they really don't get caught up in to much of the detectives personnal lives and just give pure story most of the time. This makes for a good show that you can catch everyonce in awhile and not feel really lost. I've seen an episode of each and like the original & SVU the best, but CI was fine too. TSA09 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2004 I love the original ones. The new episodes kinda suck and I'm not really feelin' them. I do watch TNT almost every night while I'm cooking and eating dinner. I know almost all of those by heart.
Vyce 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2004 I just recently found Law & Order and must say that I'm very impressed. I like how they really don't get caught up in to much of the detectives personnal lives and just give pure story most of the time. This makes for a good show that you can catch everyonce in awhile and not feel really lost. Earlier episodes did deal a little bit with the personal lives of the characters. For example, one season had a running subplot that involved Lenny Briscoe's (Jerry Orbach) daughter getting busted for drugs, then becoming a police informant.....with tragic results. One of the show's best episodes, I think, was the season finale to....I think either season five or six. It began with the characters witnessing an execution of a death row inmate, and the feelings it caused. That particular episode is famous for its rather shocking ending (I won't spoil it because I'm not sure if you've seen it). I love the original ones. The new episodes kinda suck and I'm not really feelin' them. I still think that the new episodes are quality television, but even I must admit that I wish they'd do more original plots rather than just taking real life headlines and work them into a L&O framework. The first season of the show had a very different feel to it. It was much darker and very gritty, but that reflected the condition of New York in those days I suppose. I'll pose this question, though, for fans of the original L&O: Who's your favorite team, of detectives & prosecutors? For me it's probably Chris Noth & Jerry Orbach, and Sam Walston & Jill Hennessey. TSA09 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2004 I like Chris & Jerry and Sam & Jill.......Sam & Carie were good, but Carie was too much of a softy for Sam.....Sam & Angie work, Angie was very cutthroat.....I lost interest in Sam & Elizabeth. I think Jill's death was a sad episode, the episode were Chris hits the congressman was a good one too.

They left a couple of major plot issues wide open and seemed to hope the viewer forgot about them by the end. The base serial killer used for the old man psycho was the same as SOTLamb's Buffolo Bill (Gary Hedwig or something) He locked his victems in a dungeon with the intention of brainwashing and marrying them. KingPK 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2004 Well....this will suck a bit. LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Is it time for the "Law & Order" troops to throw a goodbye party for Briscoe? Sources say "Law & Order" veteran Jerry Orbach will depart Dick Wolf's long-running crime drama at the end of the season after 12 years on the beat as wise-cracking Detective Lennie Briscoe. However, Orbach may still remain in business with Wolf with a role on the upcoming fourth installment of the franchise: "Law & Order: Trial by Jury." As for the flagship series, there is no word yet about a replacement for Orbach, but one scenario involves his character's partner, Detective Ed Green (Jesse L. Martin), being promoted. "'Law & Order' has a 15-year track record of Dick Wolf never commenting on casting changes during the season," a spokesman for the show said Thursday. Indeed, "Law & Order" has famously weathered many cast changes since it bowed in 1990. At present, Orbach is the longest-serving member of the current "Law & Order" cast members, having signed on during the show's third season in 1992. Reuters/Hollywood Reporter Even if Orbach goes to the new show, I'm just so used to seeing him on the original that it's going to be a little weird to see a new partner for Ed. Jerry Orbach for Police Commissioner!!!

Highland 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2004 I'm a huge L&O fan, especially of the original serious and CI, and I love CI for the same reasons other people hate it, and that's Vincent D'Onofrio's character. My least favourite of the three is SVU, but even that is a solid show.
