Im going to hell

Recommended Posts

Simply put, I dont want to get one, but Im outta options, so for those who have one, give me some recommendations. Is it poissible to get a plan UNDER 40$ a month?

Let me know cause I've seriously avoided them like the plague and Im pretty much in teh dark about them. I want it simply for phone calling purposes, dont want that mp3 crap and video picture junk.

Well, I've avoided cell phones for many years, but with my new job I need one in case the car breaks down or something.

I have a Virgin mobile pre-paid one. It's $60-70 to buy and you have to purchase at least $30 of call time every 90 days. Of course, my lazy self hasn't bothered to activiate it yet, but that's another story...

If you're shopping around for the cheapest deal: Cricket.

If you're shopping around for the best phone and overall service: T-Mobile.

I'm a bit of a cell phone expert. Best service you can get is Nextel, but it's terribly expensive.

If you're trying to get a cell phone plan under $40, my best advice is don't. People who get those $20 plans with AT&T and Cingular are the ones who end up getting assfucked by going way over their minutes. Best thing to do is to get a plan that has more minutes than you think you'll use, and then change your plan if you're not using all the minutes to a cheaper one.

I personally have Sprint PCS.. It's a good service, but god I hate waiting on customer service when need be. I first started out with a $45 1000 minute plan with free nights and weekends included, and for $5 more, you can get them to start at 7pm instead of 9pm. It's worth the 5 bucks extra, trust me. Anyways, at the time I was working for Blockbuster, and if you ask around at any cell store, a lot of employers are registered with certain services so that you get a discount on your bill just for working for whoever you might work for. I get 15% off every month myself.

Anyways, I'm really anal-retentive with my cell phone minutes, so I was able to switch to a cell phone plan that was $35 a month, nationwide with no roaming charges, and with 300 daytime minutes. If I didn't have the internet package (which equates to being free basically because of my discount) which is $10 extra, it costs $5 extra for free/unlimited nights to start at 7pm, then another $5 for insurance (If you ever break your phone or lose it, have it stolen, whatever...put down a $35 deductible and you get a brand spanking new one right away at the store..good deal), with taxes and everything, it comes out to about $50 a month.

Don't expect to pay less... AT&T and Cingular are the WORST companies you can sign up with..terrible reception, horrible phones, and service plans designed to make you think you're saving money, but in actuality are designed so you go over your minutes and end up with $200 bills. T-Mobile is an okay service, and I've heard bad things about Verizon (but I haven't seen anything bad MYSELF about their service, they're not too bad..especially if you know a lot of other people who have Verizon, then calling them is free anyday anytime..)...So, in order...

1. Nextel

2. Sprint

3. Verizon

4. T-Mobile

5. Cingular

6. AT&T

I've used AT&T, Nextel, and Sprint myself...and two of my best friends have used the other 3, so I have a pretty good indication of what's good and what's not.

I used to sell phones at a RadioShack, we sold both Sprint and Verizon. Well, long story short, we sold a LOT more Sprint than Verizon.

I've got a $39.95/mo plan with Cingular that gives me 500 anytime minutes and 5,000 night/weekend minutes, with the anytime minutes rolling over every month.

I've been considering getting a cell phone for a few weeks now, but strictly for emergencies only. I've started to do a lot more traveling around lately, plus I am not much of a phone talker, nor do I aspire to become one of those stupid assholes who talk on their damn phone ALL THE TIME.

T-Mobile has a package for $20 a month (60 anytime minutes) and that's the one I'm leaning towards at the moment. Cingular has one for $30 with more minutes, but there's almost zero chance of me needing more than 60 minutes, so I can't see much point in spending the extra $10.

A question I do have though, and have forgotten to ask any of the sales reps I've talked to, is what about coverage areas? All the companies have maps drawn with shaded coverage areas, but what about all the areas designated as "No Coverage." Do you get slammed with extra charges for being in those areas, or do the phones just not work in those areas, period?

You get slammed with roaming charges, which vary depending upon the company, but are normally pretty expensive and can add up after a while.

I have Alltell myself, with like 700 daytime minutes and 5000 night and weekend minutes for $49 a month. Thus far the only problem I've had with them is when they cut my phone off back in December, and yet I was still able to use my phone during the time period it was supposedly cut off. I'm in a bit of a dilemma myself right now since I don't know if I want to keep my phone and switch to a nationwide plan since I'm moving to Florida (easier to keep up with my parents and everyone here, especially since my parents also use Alltell) or just cancel it all together and rely on an actual phone with a really good long distance rate.

I have T-mobile, and I have the nationwide 600 anytime minutes, Free NIghts and Weekends for 39.99 a month. I about to get a new phone...

Quickie on phones: if you are planning on driving while talking, get a speaker phone. they are true hands free and the only ones that are akin to talking to others in the car.

If you are going to talk and walk alot, get a handset, it is easier.

If you go to new york, you need a handset or a major fine is coming your way.

Unless you have a chance to get your friends in those "kodac" moments. Picture phones are wasteless. And unless you need to stay on the net 24/7. Those internet in phones are wasteless.

Probably the prepaid wireless way is the best way to go for you then.

Just be careful about minutes. People always tend to underestimate how much they'll use their phones.

Stay away from the Tracfone then. It's cheap, but it's shit.

I have AT&T Wireless, 600 anytime minutes free nights and weekends for 39.99.

I have a great phone, great reception, and my bill hasn't hit me with the ungodly suprise charges, so I'm happy.

I got a cell phone with a plan as a gift, and I think I've used it for a total of half an hour. I was actually going to buy one, too.

Of course, the minute I sell it, all four of my tires will go flat at the point equidistant of my job and my house.

Well, I bought my phone from my friend for 20 bucks. :headbang: But the activation fee cost me 75 bucks. My T-Mobile plan is 600 whenever weekday minutes, 50 minutes of text messages, free nights, free weekends, and No roaming charges all for 39.99 a month, with tax it comes out to 46 bucks a month. But T-Mobile sometimes don't have good connections when your in certain areas (especially indoors with alot of walls), but it isn't that bad thou.

I doubt you can get a phone under 40 bucks month unless you got good credit. If you do its usually you get lesser minutes if the plan is under 40 bucks a month. I wouldn't do pre pay because its like 50 bucks for 500 minutes that have to be used up within 2 months.
