The 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

Recommended Posts

OK, seeing Hulk Hogan around the Cup was just weird.

Eh...congrats to Tampa.

Wait....when was this?! I turned the channel to UPN and Hogans there?

His daughter sings the anthems in Tampa so Hogan is at almost every game.

Incredible game with the last 10 minutes being incredible. Ferences hit on St. Louis WAS a penalty, there was no way around it. Calgary got outplayed until the final 10-15 minutes and there is no reason for anyone to talk about conspiracies or poor reffing - they didn't deserve it from this game and neither of those two things were there.

I always forget Hogans daughter (I can't remember her name to svae my life) sings national anthems...eh. Hogan will now go "I slammed the 2000 pound Andre and single handedly won the Stanley Cup!"

This is the first SC win that just really made me go "meh"

Though I suppose I can take solace in the fact that some team I hated (i.e. Detroit) didn't win

The question now is: Where does the NHL go from here?

I'm the opposite. While I didn't MARK THE FUCK OUT~! like I have in the past, I was very pleased and absolutely loved seeing Andreychuk pump the cup and jump up and down to start off the victory run.

I'll just record the rest of the post-game on Sunshine network and watch later.

Too bad the Devil Rays have no hope in hell of winning anything this year.

Hogan and his daughter were on the ice around when they were taking the team photo. Lecavelier even gave him a hug.

...

can he cause cancer in any sport?

I am still in shock. It was just amazing to see Tampa lift the Cup. I had my doubts for a bit there that Calgary would make the come back, but Tampa held on to win.

For me, Tampa winning the Cup is the best sendoff ever. I'll miss hockey when the lockout happens, but at least I have that happy memory to remember it by, until it returns.

For myself, I thought I'd go "meh" at Tampa Bay winning the Cup, but here I am, going "hey, it was actually a fucking good performance, a hot crowd and great hockey."

And kudos to The Bulin Wall. Now he's not in the same league as other hacks like Lalime, Kolzig, etc., who just couldn't stand on their heads for their teams. He backstopped his team to a Stanley Cup and proved he is a true quality contending goaltender.

Hopefully the suits will all get together and be locked in a room until everything is fixed up and there is no lock out.

Also: I want to see what becomes of all of CWM's wagering

Well that makes Tampa Bay winning even sweeter.

God, give it up redbaron. If Canadians still watched after the most boring team ever won the cup three times, they will definately still watch after a young and exciting team won.

Good work, Tampa...they deserved the win. And that Khabibulin save sliding across the crease was amazing.

Like Melrose said earlier on ESPN radio, maybe Tampa winning the Cup can be a good thing because it shows teams can be aggressive and not have to trap all the time to win the Cup.

I'm just upset that more American's did not tune in for this series. The Canadians watched in record numbers while no one relly cared about it. I hope Calgary gets another shot next years as well as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim ;)

I'm a Ducks fan, what can I say?

WOW! Just WOW! I can't believe the Lightning are Stanley Cup Champions. As a person that started following the team in 1995 this is extra special cause I have seen the 50 loss seasons, Art Williams, the 9 goal period against Washington, Steve Ludzik's stupid forechecking scheme and all the other crap that the team has been through. First off, I want to thank Phil Esposito without whom this couldn't be possible, he brought the team here and served as GM for 6 years with mostly one arm tied behind his back. Secondly, I want to thank Bill Davidson and his group, yes they may seem a little distant but they came in and gave the Bolts the stability they have always needed. Thirdly, I want to thank Stephane Richer, Alexander Daigle, Cory Cross, Mike McBain, Andrei Zyuzin, Jason Bonsignore among many others that passed through here because they make this victory that much sweeter. I want to thank Torts for teaching these guys how to win and Jay Feaster for stabilizing the organization when Rick Dudley wanted to make a trade every week. It was so amazing to see Andreychuk skate around with the cup and know Jassen Cullimore who's been here since January 1998 won the cup the Bolts. It's been a hell of a ride and I hope we can continue it next year.

I'm going to register my disgust on the Internet for all the world to read.

"Meh" is the word all right. I can't care about Tampa Bay winning the Stanley Cup. Andreychuk this, San-Loueeee that, it's the fact that the Flames winning it would've been a thousand times cooler. And don't even get me started on the bad call in Game 6 that ended up costing the Flames the series in the end. Apparently in addition to the shameless promotion during intermissions, the NBA is also creeping into the officiating. Incompetent jerks.

Part of me wants the full-year lockout because I don't think I can handle a fourth year of the plucky underdog with the hot goalie choking in the finals to an established high-ranked team. If I get Avs-Thrashers in '05, I'm bustin' skulls.

Yeah I did, him and Mar-TAN Bro-DOOR

Seriously, how many times did that little guy get knocked on his ass over the course of the series? It seems like lil' Marty just bumped like a pinball against those big mean Calgary guys. I think if Tampa had been up by two at the end, the Flames should've just started beating the shit out of all of them. Hey, if you're goin' down, drag 'em down with ya.

I'm assuming that small explosion I heard earlier was Dave Mishkin's larynx bursting? I'll bet every dog within a 5 mile radius were howling after the final horn sounded.

Ah well, so long NHL. Let's bring on the WNBA talk!

Well, that was certainly a good game and a good series. I'm really glad that I recorded Game 7 instead of Raw. I was going for the Flames, but I can appreciate the Lightning winning too. I certainly wasn't happy to see it, but it's not as bad as when the Devils or the Red Wings win.

I really think the difference in the game and series was the goaltending. Khabibulin just outplayed Kiprusoff. He should have stopped one of those two shots tonight, just like he should have in Game 6. When you only face 15 shots, you shouldn't let two goals in. I don't want to harp on him and make it sound like he played terrible, but he certainly didn't play as well as Khabibulin did. The Flames got outplayed all around for the first two periods, but they got enough good scoring chances in the third that it all evened out except for the men between the pipes.

Anyway, no sour grapes. Congratulations to the Tampa Bay Lightning for the Stanley Cup win, and congrats to the Flames for making it to the finals with a mediocre goalie and only one bonafide scorer.

Something I just thought of... I find it funny that a future HOFer such as Dave Andreychuk spent as many seasons toiling away trying to get a cup as Ray Bourque, but he didn't get nearly the pub throughout this postseason that Bourque got, and I sincerely doubt he's going to get a big ol' SI cover like Bourque did

Why is that

Don't worry, I think Tampa did a good job diving in this game (especially Stillman in the first period)

And if anyone knows how to recognize diving players, it's a Habs fan. Maybe Ribeiro and Kovalev gave the Lightning some pointers during their series a few weeks ago.

As an American fan, of a team that's been around longer than most current Canadian teams, I think it's a fucking insult that people up North are making this a "Canada vs. the US" thing. Do you think Boston fans love the idea of a team from Florida winning the Cup? I was pretty much apathetic about who won (just wanted good hockey) but now that I see that it's an us-vs.them thing, I'm stoked that the American team won.
