Ripper 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2004 It's sad to seem them lose, but I can't feel bad. How do you not capitalize on Shaq, Kobe, and Malone being in foul trouble ? Damn, too bad it didn't get to game 7... IMO, KG would've played the game of his career. Well...6 fucking 3 pointers...thats why. KG being in foul trouble hurt too. Just John 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2004 I hate the Lakers as much as the next guy, but I won't kid myself. LA is going to do to the East winner exactly what they did Minnesota. They'll slack in a couple games, but they'll hit the shots that matter in the end. Indy or Detroit should take their EC championship trophy and go home, because they have no shot against the Lakers. I hate LA, but I recognize what they can do, and they most certainly can defeat the East winner. I'm hoping they won't, but after LA beat the Texas teams, I realized I shouldn't give myself false hope. HOUSTON couldn't hold LA's jock straps Houston was 2 shots away from being up 3-1 after four games. Although, the Lakers again did exactly the bare minimum to win. However, next year the Lakers won't be as dominant.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted June 1, 2004 You can't use what ifs in sports. You have to just accept the outcome of what happens. If you want to talk about what ifs, what if Shaq would have hit half of his free throws last night? You can't make excuses when you fall short. If the T-Wolves lose next year, what will the excuse be? Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the Lakers or anybody, I'm just looking at this from the perspective I would have if I was in a similar situation. I never said that the Lakers were better than the T-Wolves. I only said that they were better than the T-Wolves last night. In a situation like this, the losing team can only wait until next time to make things right.
Guest Urine Sane Report post Posted June 1, 2004 If the wolves can pick up a good center and another shooter in the off season, they'll take it next year.
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2004 I'd love to see Malone retire without his championship ring. He couldn't beat Jordan so he ran his ass to LA in hopes that the good players around him would give it to him.......and then he doesn't get it still......HA! That'd be glorious. Glorious? Glorious when he gets his freaking ring. Maybe if Miller and Layton (the Jazz' owner and GM at the time) actually built a team around him and Stockton they could have actually won in the finals. And as far as him "running his ass to LA", he's given up quite a bit for the hopes of a championship. He took a freaking 18 million dollar pay cut (and he did the right thing by stepping away before he became decrepid and a liabliity to the Jazz and giving them time to rebuild, which they are on the right page, but that's a completely different argument that I'll save for later). He's not their on the court weapon, but Karl is propably the biggest figure in the Laker lockerroom. Their respect of him has kept Kobe and Shaq from killing each other, helped calm Payton, and inspired his bench. I really can't think of anyone else in a similar position in the NBA, let alone someone who could come close to what Karl had been doing. Maybe Reggie Miller, but the Pacers management gave him all the reasons in the world for him to stay there by bringing in Jermaine, the emergence of Jermaine and Artest, etc.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted June 2, 2004 Why is everyone commending Karl Malone for taking a so-called "pay cut?" Did I miss the contract where he was supposed to make $18 million this season? He was a free agent and he voluntarily signed for he's getting now -- it's not like the team slashed his salary. And seeing as he DID make almost $20 million last year alone, I don't feel too sorry for him when he's "only" making $1 million. I'm sure he can afford it. Oh, and one reason why Malone isn't getting as many shots as he did in Utah is because HE'S NOT THAT GOOD ANYMORE.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted June 2, 2004 It seemed like Malone's skills fell off a cliff this season. At least before the season, people had hopes of him beating Kareem's record.

razazteca 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2004 Well one of the announcers asked if either the Pistons or Pacers could beat the Lakers. Stephen looked at them for a second then threw away his notes and went Dennis Leary on them talking really LOUD and fast........I was expecting Smith to start chain smoking and fall out of his chair. bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2004 The first half was the ugliest first half EVER! But that second half (the fourth quarter especially) was AWESOME! NAIL BITER! And let me just take this opportunity to point at Ron Artest and laugh like a motherfucker. First a cheap shot to Rip (couldn't think of another way to stop him??) , then jacking up a 3 pointer from WAAAY BACK there with 13 seconds left??? AHAHAAHAHAHAH!!! I'm so glad that it was him that caused the loss! AHAHAHA! And JUST to make things interesting in this NBA thread... (hey every story needs a villian).... PISTONS OVER LAKERS IN SIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2004 God damn. Go Pistons. Apparently Artest was trash talking him after he knocked him down to. Oh boy. I just heard about the preferential treatment thing and the Shaq thing.....that pisses me off. I wonder if they do it in other sports? "Hey guys..I don't care if Ty Law has the guy in a headlock out there....don't throw the flag!"
Just John 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2004 Directed to Just John: Sorry to burst your bubble, but the Pistons CAN BEAT the Lakers. For one or two games, yeah. No way they win a best of seven, though. Everyone (myself included) doubted the Lakers against the Spurs, many still doubted them against the Wolves. I'm not falling for that again. The Lakers will turn on the switch whenever they please and put Detroit away in 6. If you think the Pistons will beat the Lakers scoring less than 70 a game, you're crazy. If Ben Wallace gets into foul trouble, who guards Shaq? Mehmet Okur? Darko? Ha! What answer do they have for Kobe? That man has scored at will throughout most of the playoffs. And it doesn't stop there. Just ask Minnesota how easy it is to beat the Lakers, even if the "Big 4" are in trouble. I'd like to see the Pistons win, but I'm not putting any money on it.
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Report post Posted June 2, 2004 I'd put money on them to win in 7, just like I would on Minnesota but that's a different story. What answer do they have for Kobe? That man has scored at will throughout most of the playoffs. So, Richard Hamilton has done nothing throughout the playoffs ? This isn't the Sixers or the Nets, there will be no coasting to victory this year.
Guest OraleHolmes Report post Posted June 2, 2004 The Lakers shot an average of 50 percent against the Spurs, the best defensive team in the NBA. The Lakers have homecourt advantage against Detroit, and as all of you know, the Lakers are 9-0 at Staples in the playoffs. The Pistons don't have the offensive firepower of the Wolves nor better defense than the Spurs. Not to mention, the Lakers will be able to shut down Detroit's sole offensive weapon, Rip Hamilton. Lakers in 5. No, I take that back -- the Lakers will fall asleep in two games, so they can win it all in front of a rabid crowd at Staples Center. Lakers in 6. By the way, if Reggie Miller wanted to win a championship, he should join the Lakers next season. Join the club, Reggie. Join the club.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2004 Go Pistons. I may have had a freudian slip last night. In the midst of my excitement last night when screaming for Minnesota to win I screamed "Go Lakers!" Hmm.......
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Report post Posted June 2, 2004 Orale, to quote Joey on "Friends" "This is a moo point. It's like a Cow's opinion, it just doesn't matter." Meaning, your words mean JACK SHIT. Go jump on another Bandwagon, sir.
Guest OraleHolmes Report post Posted June 2, 2004 You know, the Pistons do have a shot at beating the Lakers. Yeah, if both Kobe and Shaq tear their hamstrings.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2004 It'd be funny if The Pistons somehow exploded into an offensive monster and kept there rabid defense going. Kept the Lakers at 30-40% and shot 60% themselves........ah.......*dreams some more*
Guest OraleHolmes Report post Posted June 2, 2004 As far as I'm concerned, the Lakers owe the Pistons one from 1989. Because if Magic and Byron Scott didn't have torn hamstrings, the Lakers would've had another championship. Still, Detroit vs. L.A. in the finals is as good as it gets. Hopefully, we can go retro again next year with a Celtics vs. Lakers Finals.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2004 The Lakers will not make the finals next year. If everyone that is rumored to leave goes ahead and leaves....they're finished.
