Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted April 11, 2004 Please forgive me if this has been done before (most likely has), but I don't remember seeing one of these threads in the times I come in and out of this folder. I'm assuming a lot of people here are baseball fans, and mostly, some are Yankee haters. But lets not get into arguments over the teams and jsut post some of your (the poster(s)) favorite moments in baseball. I have a lot, but i'll narrow it down to a few... 1.) David Wells' Perfect game. I remember watching the game, and Wells was comnig off a very bad game against Texas (got into a little argument with Torre and threw a hissy fit). I didn't realize until the 7th inning what was going on, and went crazy cheering in the 9th. 2.) David Cone's perfect game. First Inter-League Perfect Game ever, and to this day the only one. This was more special I think because Cone was nearing the end of his career, and it was just a great way to put something special in the books with so little time left. 3.) Roger Clemens' final pitches as a player. Of course, now it isn't, but it was just memorable as he got the strike out, and everyone including the Marlins players gave him a standing ovation. 4.) Minor one here: Tino Martinez' first at bat against the Yankees since leaving. The crowd gave him a well desserved standing ovation, and he hit a home run to boot. One of the rare times I cheered AGAINST my team. I was always a Tino fan, and still am. 5.) The Yankees World Series celebration from 1996. The first time I got to see the Yankees in the World Series, and it ended up being Jimmy Key's swan song as a Yankee. Wade Boggs riding around the field on horseback is a nice little shot. and last but not least... 6.) The Subway World Series. Yankees vs. Mets. Growing up a New Yorker, this was just great seeing the Mets finally get back to the World Series and face the Bronx Bombers. Too bad the Yanks slaughtered them. I have lots more, but I wanna keep it short.

I didn't realize until the 7th inning what was going on, and went crazy cheering in the 9th. I remember that game. No knock on Wells, but his was about the easiest perfect game someone could of pitched. The lineup for the Twins in that game was horrible. I'm thinking most of us could of at least gotta a CG. You're right. At least the Expos has Vladimir Guerrero when Cone did it in '99. The Twins biggest "Stars" were Paul Moliter (past his prime) and Marty Cordova, who wasn't that good either. Wells also being one of few pitchers to rarely walk people is also a good thing.
Beast 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2004 Don't knock the perfect game. If they were so easy to get, then wouldn't the St. Louis Browns have had perfect games pitched against them all the time? Plus, it's not like the Twins had any other perfect games pitched against them in the other 161 games that year.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted April 11, 2004 It may not have been the worst team ever, but the Twins really had a forgetable roster in 1996. I only rumored the above two, which is pretty sad. But it's all a matter of luck. Pitchers have gotten No-Hitters off of the Yankees before, so it's not always "Worst Team always gets their ass kicked".
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2004 Carter's blast in 1993. Zimmerman getting his ass tossed by Pedro. Luis Gonzalez's world series game winner against NYY. Those are my 3 favorite.

LooseCannon25 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2004 The Mets didn't get slaughtered in the subway series damnit. Every game was close and competetive. My favorite moment of course was The Buckner blunder. Besides that, It was 99 and the Mets were losing 9-1 to Atlanta in the bottom of the 8th. They came all the way back to tie the game at 9 and Piazza hit a laser of a homer to give them the lead and eventually the win.
Bored 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2004 Just go with my two favorite in person moments. 1) October 1, 2000. A's beat the Rangers 3-0 on the final day of the season and on my birthday to win the A.L. West. The franchise seemed doomed just a couple of years earlier and now they were back in the playoffs. 2) September 4, 2002. A's beat the Royals 12-11 to win their A.L. record 20th straight game. Last second thing to go to the game since history was about to be made. Almost the worst moment ever as 56,000 people all have the air left out of them by the time the A's come up in the 9th after we watched them blow an 11-0 lead. Then Scott Hatteberg saves the day. The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2004 You can't be serious in blaming the Twins lineup for the perfect game. Then why weren't there 162 Complete Games pitched against them?
LooseCannon25 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2004 You can't be serious in blaming the Twins lineup for the perfect game. Then why weren't there 162 Complete Games pitched against them? yeah, not for nothing, but that was a pretty silly point. You can't knock a perfect game no matter what the lineup is. Now, if it was a little league team he did it against there would be a point, but the Twins were still a Major League lineup. Cmon now
Big McLargeHuge 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2004 David Bell scoring the winning and series clinching run off of Kenny Lofton's bloop single in the 2002 NLCS. Bond's recording his 500th stolen bag off of Eric Gagne and then scoring after Benito Santiago's single to win it. Gagne going ballistic and tearing up the dugout was hilarious. Slayer 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2004 If perfect games, even against the worst of teams, were so "easy", there wouldn't have only been 16 pitched in 100+ years of baseball Speaking of perfect games, one of my favorite moments ever was Tom Browning's perfect game in '88, and not against a scrub team either, but against the eventual WS champion Dodgers

Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted April 11, 2004 I'll add Game 7 of last years ALCS to my list. The game had a special feeling in it, and the Red Sox were sure to win it seemed. I was pretty much pacing back and forth for 75% of the game until the Yankees rallied late in the game to tie it up. Aaron Boone's walk off home run on Tim Wakefield was the icing on the cake. And about the PErfect Game, I'm avoiding arguments by being "Eh, maybe" but really, only 16 have been done in history.

Guest Smues Report post Posted April 12, 2004 NLCS 1991 Game 7 - Braves are trailing the whole game. Then the bottom of the 9th everything just clicks. Terry gets a double, David Justice gets to 1st on an error, they walk Bream. Then of course my favorite play ever, ball hit to left field, Justice scores. Sid Bream rounds 3rd and runs with everything he has and slides in safely. Just amazing. BRAVES WIN BRAVES WIN BRAVES WIN World Series 1995 Game 6 - Glavine throws 8 innings of one hit ball, David Justice gets booed by the crowd as he comes out to bat, then scores the only run of the game with a solo shot. Braves win 1-0 Other fun ones included Game 7 of the world series 2001. I don't like Arizona, but fuck that was glorious. ALDS game 4 2002, the angels make themselves my favorite team by taking New York out in 4. World Series 2002, game 6. Barry Bonds is so close to his dream, then the Angels rally from being down 5 to win it 6-5. The next night they win it all, so great. Game 6 of last years world series was an amazing moment too. treble 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2004 Sometime in 2000, the Blue Jays were playing the Red Sox at home and were either in 1st in the division or buzzing around it. Delgado hit a monster home run off of Pedro, which was the 1st one he had given up with men on base in over a year, or something like that. In the long run, it didn't mean anything, but man if it wasn't an awesome moment. Delgado came out for the curtain call and it's probably the most excited anyone's been about the Jays since the World Series years. Unfortunately the team fell apart in September.
