Guest Flyboy Report post Posted April 17, 2004 I think BenRo will be the breakout start of the draft. He's a stud. I think a lot of people, me included, believe more in BenRo than Eli. That's laughable.. a lot of people are writing Eli off just because of his last name. Eli has the tools to be as good as Peyton -- not saying Ben won't be good, but I would definitely take Manning over Roethlisberger. I'd say it's quite the opposite. If Phillip Rivers name was Phillip Manning he'd be the prospective #1 and Manning would be behind him and Big Bust Roethlisberger. Yes, people have Eli at #1 because of his last name, but some of those are the SAME people who say that he's going to be a bust just by looking at what Peyton has done for the Colts. AnnieEclectic 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 I'm covering because I have learned that Annie is a Charger fan ps - where do you get those damn flags? Actually, I'm an Indy fan, not a Charger fan, I just happen to dig the Manning brothers in the terms of football. Hell, let the Giants trade up and take Manning, just let him go first. -Annie
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 John Clayton and Len Pasquarelli are currently doing a live mock draft on ESPN.com The only real difference I see in this draft as opposed to others is Steven Jackson going to Tampa at 15. I think that is the first I have seen of that.

Guest El Satanico Report post Posted April 21, 2004 If I remember correctly, everyone wasn't sold on Peyton being an NFL great coming out of college either. Hell alot of people still weren't convinced until he won his first playoff game.

Dr. Tyler; Captain America 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2004 Peter King and Chris Mortensen both say San Diego may draft Philip Rivers at #1. No chance in hell. If they do, they're dumber than I had ever imagined. They could trade down to 8 and still get Rivers. Hell, they could probably trade to 10.

Those people would be right, since Manning has been a terrible QB since coming out of college. Yeap. Eli Manning will be a star, although he'll have a couple of shaky seasons to start off, like EVERY great QB. I mean seriously, when did it become that a guy had to be amazing from the start and that a team had to win a Superbowl early for him to be great? I remember how five years ago people were talking about how Drew Bledsoe was in the twilight of his career, and was running out of chances. Just because a guy has a bad season or doesn't win an NFL championship early don't mean he ain't great. Peyton is probably the best QB in the league, top three at least. Yeah, we don't Eli to be anything like him.

The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 how's that pick working out for you guys? It certainly didn't hurt us. He's 100% now. The Draft isn't about the first year...you get to keep these guys for longer than that. Hell...let's say the Bills were to take a WR in the first round this year...that's great for the future...but they've basically taken a kick returner in year 1. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 Interesting note. With Eli Manning entering the NFL. The 1984 Vikings considered the worst team in franchise history will have 4 second-generation QB's in the NFL. QB-Archie Manning has sons Peyton and Eli, TE-Don Hasselback has sons Matt and Tim. kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 My respect for Eli just crashed and burned. Fuck him and Archie...
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted April 23, 2004 Why is everyone saying "Ooooooh Fuck Eli"? The NFL is a business and I can understand why Eli and Archie are concerned that Eli could follow in Archie's footsteps by being on horrid teams. I'm not saying the Chargers won't turn around, but who the fuck would Eli throw to? LT? Himself? Please... if I was a QB, I certainly wouldn't want to play in SD either.. at least not now. I've been saying for the longest that SD doesn't need a QB, anyway.. they should just trade with the Giants or just pick Gallery with the #1 pick.
Gert T 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 In fairness though, I think a pretty good WR will be available with the Chargers 2nd round pick. I understand the thinking, but at the same time, I say just go to the team that drafts you.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 So Eli and Archie don't want him to go to a bad team? Well what the flying FUCK did they think was going to be at the top of the draft??? The good teams! Indy was a bad team when Peyton showed up, it's the nature of the draft you senile old bastard. And this is the NFL, bad teams get good overnight...well unless they are the Arizona Cardinals but that's just because they have the worst owners in the NFL. With that in mind, I'd like for Arizona to trade up and grab Eli now. If he doesn't want to play for a bad team, let him play for bad owners. The Chargers need to trade down anyway because they need more than a Quarterback and they have plenty of talented QBs on the board. And I still say Phillip Rivers will be the best QB of the top three guys. They can trade down to 4-10, grab Rivers and still have plenty of high draft picks to work with from the trade down. I've been saying for the longest that SD doesn't need a QB, anyway.. they should just trade with the Giants or just pick Gallery with the #1 pick. Then let's just get rid of the draft altogether. The fucking point of the DRAFT is that it benefits the bad teams and not the good players. The good players are taken care of 5 years later when they PROVE to be good and can choose where they play. Free agency isn't a right...it's a priveledge that is earned over time.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted April 23, 2004 Drew Brees could be a good NFL QB if he had some actual recievers and an O-Line. I too believe that they shouldn't take Eli. Trade down with the Giants and get yourself Gallery and later on in the draft with the Giants 2nd rounder a WR, like Rashaun Woods, Michael Jenkins, or somebody else who falls down the board. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted April 23, 2004 And that's part of the reason why the NFL>>>>>>>>>>>>>>MLB... Anyways, the Chargers don't need a new QB anyways, Brees was just fine until they keep losing confidence in him. You have to stick with your prospects through good times and bad in order to make sure you don't rattle his confidence. See: Smith, Akili in Cincinatti. Guy had all the tools to succeed. He played like something of a hybrid of Daunte Culpepper and Donovan McNabb, his draftmates. With the carousel running wildly in Cincinatti, they never gave him a shot and now he is relegated to free agency hell.

the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 Unless he got a lot better in the last year (admittidely I never watch the ESPN NFL shows anymore) I will still despise him. He doesn't know when to shut up. If he is saying something and someone wants to disagree, he just always grabs their arm and talks over them. It gets ridiculous. Plus as an Eagles fan I hate him. Why is everyone on TV and the radio like "Well the Chargers are going to have to trade down so they can draft someone else like Phillip Rivers and another team can get Eli at 1." Well where the hell does it say that you have to draft Eli at #1? I mean it'd be a big "Fuck you" to the Manning's if they drafted one of the other QB's at #1. MrRant 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2004 If Manning doesn't want to play for SD... I highly doubt him being drafted #2-4 is going to really be a "fuck you" to him. He'll still get paid.

Well where the hell does it say that you have to draft Eli at #1? I mean it'd be a big "Fuck you" to the Manning's if they drafted one of the other QB's at #1. Because it would be a waste of a pick if they can still get them later, along with whatever benefits they get from trading it away. Gallery is the guy they need with their shitty O-Line anyways. Of course, the Giants need him too. Picking Roethlisberger would be okay at #1. Picking Rivers at #1 is stupid.
