Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Report post Posted April 18, 2004 How well does this match hold up to you? I watched it again recently and I would not be offended in the least to give it **** on the WWE PPV Scale, and call it the best TV Match in FOREVER.
Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted April 18, 2004 Unfortunately, I was on holidays at that time, so I didn't get to see it - was it better or worse than their Last Man Standing match at the Royal Rumble?
Slayer 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 I watched this while on vacation at my soon-to-be-married bud's place, first RAW I'd watched in four months at that point, and what a RAW to choose I tend to eschew the snowflakes, however I thought it was a damn good match
CanadianChick 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 Whoa, that's funny that you would make this thread. I just watched this match a couple of hours ago. I'd say ****, sounds about right. I'm no good at star ratings, but it was a superb match, and the emotions of the crowd just added to it. It was the best Shawn/Hunter match of the bunch they've had. Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted April 18, 2004 CanadianChick, you're seriously telling me that it was better than SummerSlam and Armageddon '02? And you have to wonder if having such a great match as Rumble build would have turned potential buyers away because they thought that they'd "seen it all". Summerslam was a garbage match that was basically a string of spots. Armageddon was terrible. No flow. And it just sucked.

The watch was alot better then Summerslam and Armageddon. Summerslam was a garbage train wreck and Armageddon was definately something but I'm not exactly sure what. This was a good a wrestling match with decent build and some very well done near falls. I watched it the other day again and it was about **** for me. Hell, 90% of it was really solid back work by HHH. "Garbage match" is a terrible disservice to it.
iliketurtles 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 I loved their match on Raw...ended a really fucking shitty year on a glimace of hope and made a hardcore Bret Hart fan (myself) finally admit he's a fan of Shawn Michaels since he came back in 2002. I just can't but help and be a fan of the guy...he is just that great in the ring.

I wouldn't call their SS match a "garbage match". It had great storytelling in it.
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted April 18, 2004 I loved this match. It's one of the best TV matches that I've ever seen. I'd give it **** (****1/2 if it had a clean ending). It's my Raw MOTY, with HBK-Jericho from WM XIX at a close second. In my opinion, the 12/29/03 match is definitely the best out of the HHH-HBK series. They also had a good match on Raw in May 1996 which is often overlooked.

The fact that Michaels keeps wanting to get at Triple H combined with the somewhat messy series does disservice to the feud to a degree. SummerSlam's stipulation fitted the feud, as did Armageddon. Askewniverse, don't you mean the Jericho/Michaels rematch from WrestleMania XIX?
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted April 18, 2004 Askewniverse, don't you mean the Jericho/Michaels rematch from WrestleMania XIX? No. When I said Raw MOTY, I meant all matches from the Raw brand.
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 I really liked it. ***3/4 in my scale and a top 5 WWE match for 2003. Hell I'd rank it 2nd or 3rd and ahead of HBK/Jericho, making it HBK's best match post-comeback. Easily HHH's best post-comeback(WM20 I'm not counting since that was all Benoit). Tawren 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 I'd call it the 2nd best WWE match of 2003, but I won't call it a real MOTYC. WWE MOTYC yes. I really like the slow build to the ending minutes and how the finish comes out of nowhere. That said, HBK has chops-for-transitions-itis, which really brings down the match. I also hate the ending. HBK is a little sloppy, while HHH really brings his game for the only time I can think of for 2003. ***1/4-***1/

The only other match that would come close would the Summerslam match, but I still liked their Raw match better. I tend to like straight up wrestling matches better. Hardcore matches are fun and all, but straight up wrestling is what I remember.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted April 18, 2004 Calling the Armageddon 2002 match great is a REAL stretch. over a half-hour of terrible paced "falls" that didn't even come close to being as good as when HHH & Austin did it. Summerslam 2002 bored me to tears until the 15 minute mark when HBK no-sold everything done to his back (big fucking surprise) and just did spot-spot-spot for the last 10 minutes. Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted April 18, 2004 I've seen both of those matches only once. I no longer own the SummerSlam DVD, but I've never sat down and rewatched the Armageddon 2-out-of-3 Falls, I've only rewatched the awesome pre-match video package. Michaels no-selling his way through a lot of the Street Fight ('Slam) was annoying, but it can (just) be excused that it was his returning match, and the crowd were so damn hot for him then, which was right after one of the greatest turns in history. Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted April 18, 2004 No selling a CRIPPLING back injury does not make me cheer. It makes me go "ugh...HBK really needs to learn long-term selling, not sell for one spot then ignore the injury for the next 20 minutes".
Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 Probably my favourite TV match outside of HBK & Austin vs Owen & Bulldog. Really, really hot match with a finish that had me leaping around my living room. At least for 5 seconds. UYI

Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 It will undoubtably be released on some compilation sooner or later, be that a Triple H DVD or another installment of HBK's finest. I was fortunate enough to remember to hit record as both guys were making their entrances, so I can watch it whenever I want to. UYI
CanadianChick 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 I wouldn't be shocked if they ever came out with a HHH-HBK: The History DVD or something like that. Throw in some old DX stuff, the SS match, the Raw match, and you've got yourself a pretty nice DVD.

Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 Even I enjoyed a majority of the match, I was very surprised they actually went 30 minutes. I was actually hoping Michaels was going to win the title (just to get it off Trips). Of course the match ended with a shitty finish (big fucking surprise).
