NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 The A's have $2 ticket wednesdays and hot dogs are only $1 those days......the next one is in May against the bitch-ass Yankees.......hmm I may have to skip class. I mean the A's/Yanks games are always wild, and the price for tickets/food is pretty unbeatable. We have dollar dog night at the dome Wednesdays has well. Is it every Wed. home game there, like it is here? It was EVERY WEDNESDAY GAME, up UNTIL this year. Now they kind of reduced it down a bit. The thing about Oakland is, it is a shitty town for a baseball team. The collesium is also in a shitty part of town, but the one thing thet Bay Area does have is people and LOTS of them so by default they get enough people out to the games. I guess attendance has been climbing up enough over the past few years that they were able to not have to do it EVERY WEDNESDAY anymore. The $1 hotdogs is the best part of the deal though, since food is the most overprices items at the ballpark.
Bored 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 $1 Wednesday's actually ended before last season and attendance still went up.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 $1 Wednesday's actually ended before last season and attendance still went up. Well yeah, but the A's are also 95-100 game winners for the past few years, plus MLB attendance is up overall. I am just saying it takes A LOT to get folks to go to A's games consistently. I remember when I was a kid, they had $1 tickets everyday for kids 14 and under, and they used to have giveaways like A's Coolers and even the Pro Fit Caps which go for $20 at stores. Of course the A's sucked back then, but hey, that is still a big prize for a giveaway to 20,000 people.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 From Rob Neyer What do you do with a player who's super-hot like Calvin Pickering or Barry Bonds? If it's Calvin Pickering, you hope he's not really this good and you keep trying to get him out. But if it's Barry Bonds, you know he's really this good, so you don't really bother trying to get him out, especially if first base is open. What do you do if you're Barry Bonds' manager? It's been suggested that Felipe Alou should shift Bonds from No. 4 in the lineup to No. 3, but how much difference will that actually make? After all, it's not like Mickey Mantle will be hitting behind Bonds. No, this situation calls for something truly radical: Barry Bonds, Leadoff Man. Way back in the 1940s, Branch Rickey floated this notion, saying, "It's unreasonable to deprive the finest hitter of an extra chance to bat in a game." And one of Rickey's students, Bobby Bragan, later managed the Braves and occasionally used Hank Aaron in the leadoff slot. In addition to the advantage noted by Rickey and later Bragan, it's not likely that a manager would order Bonds intentionally walked to lead off the game. No, it probably wouldn't make much difference in the standings. But we just had Jackie Robinson Day; how about a tip of the cap to Branch Rickey, too? I think he'd still get walked. Let him get walked then. This move puts ALL of the Giants' hitters behind him, and gives them a free baserunner to start off with, leading to more runs scored. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 White Flag time at Wrigley. Cubs win 3-1 over the NY Mets and Greg Maddux actually didn't suck. Alou homered to give the Cubs a 2-0 lead and they held off. Big Joe got in form as well, pitching a flawless ninth for the save. The Cubs remain in first place in the NL Central and I enjoy these brief moments when the Cubbies and Orioles are in first place at the same time in my lifetime. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 I still don't get how Ron Santo is not in the Hall of Fame yet. I mean, he was one of if not the greatest Cubs third baseman of all time and was the best third baseman of his time. I just don't get it.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 Same here. Santo is easily the best eligible position player not in the Hall.

treble 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2004 Are there a lot of people at the Montreal game? They usually do pretty well for their home openers, but the Habs are playing tonight so that might keep some people at home.

razazteca 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2004 What is Contreras' ERA now, 20.50? Since he never did well in the previous series why are the Yankees still using him? Can't they promote somebody to 5th starter and move Contreras to the one inning reliever spot? Why not have Tom Gordon start?
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2004 Bigbie saves the Os with a nice sliding catch.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted April 24, 2004 Tom Gordon's arm can't handle starting. They already have a minor leaguer in the 5th rotation spot because John Lieber is still on the DL. They pissed away their minors for Arron Boone and others like him. Not to mention they have no more trading chips to use since both Nick Johnson and Alfonso Soriano were shipped out of town. Basically they are fucked Edit: Contreras' ERA is 10.
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2004 Contreras is better than anybody they could get to replace him. When we said before the season started that they had no pitching depth, we weren't kidding.
