WWE News & Notes

Recommended Posts

The Smackdown house show on Saturday drew about 3600. The Sunday show drew about 1800.

- On the Rene Dupree vs. Hardcore Holly matches over the weekend, Dupree came out from under the ring to attack Holly at the start of the matches.

- Kurt Angle was upset with Moolah and Mae Young yesterday. The two mauled him with their usual sex starved old women act during a skit but Angle apparently did not know they were going to do that. He was said to be a bit upset about it.

- Some in WWE are now concerned with Mordecai, feeling he won't be able to work up to the push WWE wants to give him. WWE is grooming him to work against the Undertaker. Many feared when they brought him up from OVW that he was too green.

- Many members of WWE management remain very high on the Eddie Guerrero/John Bradshaw Layfield program.

WWE is already souring on Kenzu Suzuki due to his poor in-ring work. The feeling is that he is not "mechanically fit" for wrestling. WWE actually considered pushing Kenzu's Hirohito gimmick all the way to the main event in a program with Chris Benoit right upon his debut, but eventually decided against it.

Ric Flair is suffering from a tweaked hamstring but worked the Sunday RAW house show anyway. He was given Friday and Saturday off due to the birth of his granddaughter.

- Molly Holly had some sort of back muscle problem on Friday. She was OK the next day. The belief is the pain was due to some spasm.

- Matt Hardy is working despite a sore knee.

Everyone was happy with how the Chris Jericho vs. Christian Cage Match came off at the RAW house show on Sunday and expect the two to deliver a great match tonight on RAW.

- Brian Lawler arrived late to one of the RAW house shows over the weekend and was given a stern warning by the agents to make sure it doesn't happen again. Many wrestlers were upset that he showed up late after getting a second chance with the company.

- The RAW house show in New Orleans on 5/7 drew 2800; The 5/8 show in Lafayette drew 2500; The 5/9 show in Fresno drew 2000.

- Dean Malenko, one of the Smackdown agents, worked as an agent for the RAW brand this weekend.

The matches for WWE Judgment Day so far are Eddie Guerrero vs. John Bradshaw Layfield for the WWE Title, The Undertaker vs. Booker T, and John Cena vs. Rene Dupree for the WWE US Title. Other expected matches are Rob Van Dam & Rey Mysterio vs. The Dudley Boys, Jacqueline vs. Chavo Guerrero for the WWE Cruiserweight Title, and The Basham Brothers vs. Rico & Charlie Haas.

- One backstage source claims that WWE management isn't even concerned over Smackdown's sinking ratings and quality. The feeling is that they accept that the show is a "B" show.

- WWE has yet to get back in contact with Steve Austin about a potential return.

- The feeling right now continues to be that Mick Foley will return to work a match at Summerslam.

- Eric Bischoff's contract expires in July. No word yet on whether WWE plans to keep him aboard.

Judgment Day will suck. Kenzo Suzuki will suck, and the UT/Mordecai Feud is destined to suck.

Brian Lawler/Christopher/Whatever sucks and should be fired again.

Bischoff better get a new contract.

Simple answers for simple news.

Oh boy. This PPV is going to be brutal.

And reading 99% of the "backstage reactions" points it's just amazing that WWE still don't get it. They still don't understand their audience.

Why? I have yet to see any redeeming factor of this supposed "feud".

No one buys Bradshaw as a main eventer and his attempt to be the racist version of Ted Debiase is failing miserably.

Wasn't the "Million Dollar Man" character already sort of a racist? Remember Virgil? Although, the gimmick DiBiase had was MUCH more subtle. I think that's the biggest difference.

Well, that and DiBiase was a superb worker and good on the mic.

Man, a lot of head scratching shit in there.

-Kenzo originally planned to be pushed against Benoit right away? Seriously, after the Nathan Jones & John Heidenreich disasters, do they even "scout" these guys before hiring them?

-Brian Lawler showing up late despite getting a gift of a rehiring? Never should have been brought back in the 1st place.

-SD house show outdrawing Raw house shows?

-Jackie/Chavo at the PPV? They wouldn't have Jackie go over, would they?

-WWE management accepting SD as a "B" show? Fuck that. SD was kicking Raw's ass for all of 2003 (pretty much since the brand split, for that matter, up to the 2nd draft). The show only has 2 of the company's most over faces (Eddie & Cena), 1 of the most over heels (Big Show), and 1 of the biggest stars in the company for the last 10 years (Taker). Not to mention they have SD only PPV's - what's the point in making it a "B" show if you depend on it to make you money? "Yeah, the show's pretty much crap, but what're you gonna do? Don't forget to buy the PPV, though!"

I'm not going to be surprised if this was true. I mean after all, looking at the lineup for Judgement Day, I can honestly say they really don't care and sure are making it look like a "B" show.

Out of all the talent in Japan, and all the talent moving around, unhappy, etc. they get a talent that can't work. And yet, it would be more shocking if he COULD work.

anyone care to explain to me how this is newsworthy?

can't say as i blame him.

heh, that's never stopped them from pushing anyone before (see Jones, Nathan), so my guess is it's because he's Japanese.

dumb-ass isn't there a week, and he's already fucking up...unbelievable.

actually, i take that back...considering who we're talking about, it's VERY believable.

eh, i'll save my $30, thanks.

yep, everyone knows the best care is no care.

awww, that's too bad. i'm weeping...see, SEE me WEEPING? :D

- Eric Bischoff's contract expires in July. No word yet on whether WWE plans to keep him aboard.

they should...he's good at his job. which probably means he's a goner.

Damn this guy must really suck as bad as ppl say.

If he's not mechanically fit for the wwe it must mean he's incapable of properly performing a big boot, dropkick and spinebuster.

Expect him to be squashed by Eugene.

Being an Undertaker fan It makes me sad that i have no interest in seeing this ppv. Even watching it for Eddy Guerrero is not enough, because of the abyssal manner they are handling the show and angles.

oh and because everyone realizes it as a B show gives the WWE creative team to just let it Die a slow death. Thats a fucked up way of maintaining a company.

They should just book Kenzo like New Japan did.

Have him come out, try and use the spear 18 times per match, and then get his head lariated off by guys like Satoshi Kojima.

Edit: Forgot to add this.

Who wants to lay odds that the first guy to job to Kenzo will be Helms?

What I don't get is where the hell is this WWE creative braintrust? People like Cornette and Heyman who has been in wrestling for Decades? Who the hell would ever Book some guy to the main event spot if you NEVER seen him work? this is like a Japanese version of Nathan Jones. Gee I never saw him wrestle but... Lets throw him against the Undertaker in his first feud.

Yeah, but that means a shitty 10 minute match. Although I love Kojima lariating people. Now thats a move someone other than no-talent Bradshaw should have. Maybe someone like John Heidenreich or Garrsion Cade.

They're just forshadowing the inevitable "Rene Dupree Injured During a Match With Holly" headlines.

Hey jester, love your sig pic.

So... If there weren't to keep Eric Bischoff around, then what the fuck would they do?

And look at that difference in House Show numbers. On that, I really have having top draws done at those shows.

ANOTHER Basham PPV match?

Not only that, but another REMATCH from Smackdown not too recently.

The Bashams get an abnormal amount of PPV time for a H and H team.

Yeah, pretty much. They made the Survivor Series and Wrestlemania cards, which was unexpected. They've been on all three Smackdown pay-per-views too. It's a good thing I kind of like them :D

I would say Virgil was a racist character... but he ended up getting the better of DiBiase after turning on him, so I guess they corrected their wrong there. His name, however, was a direct strike at Dusty Rhodes, whose real name is Virgil. Even though most of you probably know that already :)

Mordecai - too green, yet on the roster, set to feud w/ Taker

Tomko - too green, yet on the roster

Kenzo - bad wrestler, was set to get a ME push against the champ

Yet Kanyon gets released, O'Haire gets released (could have made a servicable mid-carder), and Kendrick was frustrated enough to ask for his release.

I still have problems resolving these issues.

Wow...that Hirohito shit just blows my mind. Why can't they just blindly give a main event spot to Low Ki or Christopher Daniels or somebody? Daniels would be a far better feud for Taker than Fertig!

WWE have definitely clicked to pushing lowercard wrestlers, but don't know which ones to push.

And Ernie, what the hell is there to like about the Bashams!?

Yeah, but majority of the people that would be reading that are people that know that it is anyway.
