NYU 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2004 New York Mets: Watching AL Leiter sadly walk off the mound Game 5 of the 2000 World Series against the Yankees. You could tell that he was already way too tired to continue pitching, but he desparately wanted to be the one to keep the Mets hopes alive. Then, Luis Sojo drove those two runs in, and Leiter heartbreakingly walked off to the bleachers to a standing ovation. Ugh, I couldn't sleep that night, I was so depressed. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2004 Blue Jays - choking the 1987 AL East away to the Tigers, losing six straight one-run games and blowing a 4 1/2 game lead in the final week. Broncos - losing to the Jaguars (a recent expansion team) in the 1997 divisional playoffs after posting the AFC's best record. Senators - losing to the Leafs in Game 7 of the conference semis in 2002...then watching the Leafs gag against an eminently beatable Carolina team in the conference final. Lakers - losing to the Rockets in 1986. I guess. Not many heartbreaking moments for these guys.
Gert T 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2004 1997 Western Conference Playoffs: John Stockton nails a 3 point to beat the Rockets at the last second sending the Jazz to the finals After that shot, I literally sat still staring at the TV with my jaw open for 30 minutes. I woke my parents up after that shot, although the roles were reversed in Game 4 when Eddie Johnson made that shot.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2004 Len Bias had used coke before the night he overdosed. That's a conversations for a different time though. For the Vikings the missed Drew Pearson pushoff in the 1975 NFC championship game.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted May 15, 2004 Minnesota Vikings - '98 season, 15-1, Gary Anderson wide left, poor clock management, bye bye Super Bowl appearance I remember that. MN Vikings 2003 - Losing to the FUCKING CARDINALS and thus leaving us out of the Playoffs. No actually the Vikings played the Cardinals in 1998 after Arizona beat Dallas for their first-ever playoff victory, and Minnesota DESTROYED Arizona, who then proceeded to get kicked in the nuts by the Falcons. ...I see a recurring theme here. Fucking Falcons. Anyways, I was a bit heartbroken to see that since I had a lot of respect for those 98 Vikings, that was probably the best team I think I have EVER seen play. They looked so damn unstoppable RIGHT UP until that NFC Championship game, and it ruined what could have been a great Super Bowl between them and Denver. But damn that game was still nice. Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2004 New York Yankees: 1997 ALDS against the Cleveland Indians, Mariano allows HR to Sandy Alomar (Paul O'Neill - Favorite Player EVER- nearly tied the game with a HR but it hit the top of the wall and the Yankees lost after Bernie Flied out)/ 2001 World Series - after Soriano hits a golf shot HR, Mariano blows a lead and I cried. I really did./ New York Knicks: 1994 NBA Finals Game 7 - John Starks goes like 2-17 I think, can't remember, dont want to, and he gets his shot blocked by Hakeem the Dream Killer to end hope/1997 2nd Round against Miami, up 3-1, the knicks brawl with the heat, lost some players for some games and lost the series 4-3./1998 Reggie Miller kills our hope to make it a series against them with another killer three at the Garden (There are also numerous Miller moments that I'd like to forget)/1999 Knicks lose to the Spurs in the NBA Finals 4-1, and what made it worse was that Spree cried at the end after he gave it his all, and I cried with him. St. Johns Redstorm - When they lost to Ohio State I think, don't really remember, don't remember what year either but the team had Postell and Artest and they lost to them in the Final 8, it was freaking sad. New York Jets - 1999 AFC Championship, after being up 10-0 at Half Time, lost to John Elway and the Broncos, last year with Keyshawn and Vinny as a real threat/Umm 2001-2002 losing to the Raiders in the playoffs/Last Year Chad ends hope in the Jet season by getting injured for like 6 weeks. Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2004 Definitely The Catch II. Most heartbreaking game was watching the Pack lose, in the snow, at Lambeau, in the playoffs, to ATLANTA. (sigh) As for Tennessee, watching the meltdown against Auburn this past year was pretty sad, especially when a potential comeback was fucked up. Tennessee's only time in mid-season in the top 10, loads of momentum, and pfft. All gone.
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2004 Toronto Raptors: Game 7...2001 Playoffs...Sixers by one... 2.7 on the clock, Vince shoots to send TO to the conference finals(and most likely the NBA finals)....and comes up a bit wide. I stiill have nightmares from that. Ottawa Senators: 1. One of the biggest underdog stories in hockey history as the worst team in the NHL 5 years running, pulls a miracle and makes the playoffs then takes the Hasek-led, East winning, Sabres to game 7. To overtime...but Derek Plante takes a shot from the blue line ending Ottawa's miracle season. 2. Conference finals in 2003. About 3 mins left in the 3rd after the Sens tied it early in the 3rd, a bad defensive breakdown leads to Friesen coming and scoring, taking away Ottawa's Stanley Cup. Indianapolis Colts: Last year was our year. We blow out Tennessee, dominate KC but then it all falls apart in New England. Toronto Maple Leafs: Where do I begin? Here's a general one. Making the conference finals 4 times in 10 years and losing to an inferior team EVERY time(LA,Vancouver,Bufffalo,Carolina).

Guest MikeSC Report post Posted May 16, 2004 Baltimore Orioles - two words, one name : Jeffrey Meier I actually found NYC's praising the little dufus to be more annoying. He appeared on Letterman, got all kinds of praise in NYC --- all for ACTUALLY interfering in a game and costing a team a game. It's like Bartman --- except the kid ACTUALLY influenced the outcome. Forward lateral Oh, that was horrible --- but that entire game was screwed up because Levy went with Rob Johnson instead of Doug Flutie. SB XXV was one of the few times where the better team lost the game. Buffalo just moved the ball at will that entire game and Thurman should have won MVP --- even with the loss. -=Mike

TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2004 Two of the most dissapointing Yankee moments have happened when the untouchable Mariano Rivera has faultered. The only two times. World Series 2001: Game 7 @ Arizona Leading 2-1, Rivera can't slam the door and in heartwrenching fashion, one of the greatest World Series ever played ended on Luis Gonzalez' RBI single and Zona wins 3-2. Division Series 1997: Game 4 @ Cleveland Leading the best of 5 series 2-1, Rivera came in the eighth with runners on, and gave up a jack to Sandy Alomar. The Yankees lost in Game 5, but the series was really over here. Division Series 1995: Game 5 @ Seattle I was only 10 at the time, so I can't really recall much other than everyone piling on Griffey after he scored the winning run at the Kingdome. They had blown a 2-0 series lead and lost 3-2. (The series format has changed since then: Now the high seeded team gets 1,2,5 at home. In the original format, they got 3,4,5)
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted May 16, 2004 Pacers, 1994 East Finals: We had a 3-2 lead on the Knicks, but lost on our home floor. Then in game 7, the following happened in the FINAL MINUTE: Ewing fouls Dale Davis on his lead-taking dunk, which would have been his 6th, no call. Ewing (who should have been fouled out) tips in Starks' miss - clearly basket interference - no call. Reggie goes for the intentional foul on Starks to send him to the line, and it gets called a flagrant, putting it out of reach for good and putting those pesky small-marketers in their place. Hahaha..I loved it. I hate the fuckin' Pacers. Always have.
Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2004 1983 Super Bowl where the Oakland Raiders pummelled my beloved Redskins. I was young and dumb, but I cried that day. 2002 NBA WCF when the Kings lost game 7 in overtime to the Lakers. I've watched that game over and over and that game was the Kings for the taking. Instead, they gave it to the Lakers. For some reason, the more famous game 4 didn't effect me as much, probrably because it wasn't an elimination game. I didn't get depressed by the Sugar Bowl b/c it was a good game and they only lost by a touchdown to a better defense. The KSU game was......them fucking up and losing to a team that wasn't better than them. That's it for me really.......

snuffbox 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2004 Are you honestly going to tell me as a true Packer fan that THAT was a heartbreaking moment? Come on! The 1998 NFC Wildcard game was way worse. We had pretty much owned the Niners the whole game, they came back, Favre put it back up, and then out of nowhere when the clock ran down, T.O. makes the catch out of nowhere and that ended Mike Holmgren's and Reggie White's time in Green Bay, thus signalling the end of an era. But yes SuperBowl XXXII was the only professional sports game that had ever made me cry in anger. That was truly heartbreaking. And how about the Falcons marching in to Lambeau, the year the Packers probably had their best season in the Sherman era thus far, and compeltely fuck it up? Granted, we all should have seen it coming because we fucked up homefield advantage by getting raped by the Jets 45-17 and squeaking past the lowly Bills 10-0 the 2 weeks prior to it, but for fuck's sake it was the only home game and it forever tarnished the legacy of the Frozen Tundra. Fuck Michael Vick, Fuck T.O., and Fuck Elway. Fuck Holmgren for telling his defense to let Terell Davis score; and fuck some of the saddest, most porous defenses for giving up huge pass plays. DerangedHermit 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2004 The Al Leiter moment in Game 5 of the 2000 WS. The Mets making an improbable comeback to within 3 games in 2001, but Armando Benitez gives up a HR to Brian Jordan. A few days later, Benitez gives up a GS to guess who? Brian Jordan. Thankfully they have Braden Looper now (the guy hasn't given up a run this year)
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted May 16, 2004 Definitely The Catch II. Most heartbreaking game was watching the Pack lose, in the snow, at Lambeau, in the playoffs, to ATLANTA. (sigh) You didn't lose to Atlanta...you lost to Vick. One man made your cheeseheads cry in cheeseland...well that and still putting all hope on Favre. I'm a Cleveland Browns fan...do I really need to make a list? Correction- It takes a TEAM to beat another team. Vick alone didn't beat the Packers. Hell, passing-wise he was kept in check. It was the Packers' softie run defense that kept the Falcons alive in that game. I remember watching that game and wanting TJ Duckett to break a leg or something, NOONE could fucking stop him. And Atlanta always has this insufferable little let the Fullback go over the middle for a big catch and run they used OVER AND OVER again. No, No. I was talking about the 03 seasons final game for the Vikings, when they lost to the Cardinals in a game ending TD making them ineligible for the playoffs and making Green Bay happy, god i hate the Packers. Ah yes. Thanks Minnesota! I love the Cardinals Actuallly no, fuck that. They beat the Pack on a play amost EXACTLY like the one that beat the Vikings. Only it meant so much more when Minnesota lost, not like they deserved to get into the playoffs anyways. Daunte was still playing like shit, and their defense, as wa evident was practically non-existent. Seattle would have manhandled them in the first round. Fuck Holmgren for telling his defense to let Terell Davis score; and fuck some of the saddest, most porous defenses for giving up huge pass plays. You know the saddest part about that Packer team was that it was even BETTER than the one who had beat the Patriots a year earlier. Levens actually provided a semblance of a running back (as opposed to Edgar fucking Bennett), and the defense had played well all season. Holmgren made a good decision in letting Davis score, Green Bay's offense COULD feasibly have put up a score had Mark fucking Chmura made the big catch on 4th down. If they didn't let him score, Davis would have just kept running and running, thus winding the clock down and lessening the chances of a Packer comeback. EDIT: Why do people always somehow seem to use the term 'cheesehead' as an insult even though everyone should know by now it's not offensive to any Packer fan? Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted May 17, 2004 Oh well Yankee fan, at least your team had won three in row before that heartbreak, so I am not going to shed too many tears. And your team is always going to be in contention.
