geniusMoment Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Baltimore has some suppporters here, at least 2 that I know of.
Bruiser Chong Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 I noticed something... This board seems to have fans of only five teams New York Yankees Chicago Cubs Cincinnati Reds Boston Red Sox Florida Marlins(well...just ONE pretty vocal guy)... Any supporters here of other teams...I do find it appros that 4 of the five teams on the above lists are the most prestigous and well revered teams in Baseball lore. Well, those teams are all doing well this season and aside from the Reds, all of them did well last season, which I think has a big part to do with this. Others here are fans of teams outside of the ones listed, but there's not a whole lot to say when your favorite team is losing on a regular basis.
Vern Gagne Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 How many times can I post saying the Twins suck? No starting pitching outside Radke.
Vern Gagne Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Hawkins performed poorly as the Twins' closer, but he has really taken his game to a new level in the last two years. He's not the same pitcher he was in 2001. That he did. Didn't Hawkins also say he didn't want to close games? He's one of the best at what he does, why the need for Baker to move him to something he's not comfortable with?
Hektik Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Any supporters here of other teams...I do find it appros that 4 of the five teams on the above lists are the most prestigous and well revered teams in Baseball lore. Well, I'm probably the biggest Padre fan here. While I'm on that subject, here are some corrections to some earlier posts. Adam Eaton is not injured only Wells and Peavy. Wells is not that big of a deal because he should return next weekend. Peavy is the biggest blow because he will be out 2 to 3 weeks. Before his injury he had the lowest ERA in the league. The worst pitcher on the starting rotation is Ismael Valdez who was horrible in his last two starts after he was impressive in his first three. Luckily the padres have called up some good pitchers from AAA including Justin Germano who has won his first two starts, one of them being in Coors Field. The pitcher with the worst luck is Sterling Hitchcock who injured his groin after coming back from rehabbing his rib. Depth has helped the starting rotation of the Padres. On the other side the bullpen has been great with Scott Linebrink, Rod Beck, Akinori Otsuka, and Trevor Hoffman.
geniusMoment Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Just from watching all of the teams in the West play the Reds the Padres look like the class of the division, the reds have not played the D'backs yet. Peavy looks amazing, best young gun who gets no press in my opinion. Looks to be every bit as dominating as Prior.

As stated before, we have MarvintheLunatic and DrTom supporting the Orioles. Spaceman Spiff, Pinjockey, and myself are the big Phillies fans. Bored and NoCalMike cheer the Oakland Athletics. Treble cheers the Blue Jays. MrRant shakes his fist in rage at his beloved Mariners. When the Man In Blak makes an appearance, he supports the Cardinals. Kkktookmybabyaway roots for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Once in a great while, Bob Barron drops in with his Braves love. Obviously, we have a diverse group of fans.
Fuzzy Dunlop Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Terrible, terrible night last night. Just terrible.

Your right...I guess since those 4 teams have something to talk about it's more vocal and noticable then the others whom aren't as vocal.
The Czech Republic Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 ISportsFan roots for the White Sox, and NY Untouchable likes the Mets. But really, the Big 4 here are the Reds, Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox. If you took a poll, I think the majority of the people here would be aligned with one of those four teams. It helps that we're the vocal ones. Choken, me, and of course Anglesault are outspoken about our teams.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Kkktookmybabyaway roots for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He doesn't support them, he just makes fun of them...and shakes his head in disgust over them every now and again. That being said I feel bad for Cubs fans. As a Red Sox fan I know your pain in not having a guy who can take the pressure of succesfully closing out games.
Guest Anglesault Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 That being said I feel bad for Cubs fans. As a Red Sox fan I know your pain in not having a guy who can take the pressure of succesfully closing out games. And as a Yankee fan, I... don't. Then again, I also have the luxary of having two guys that can close out a game, God forbid something happens to the first. Life is good.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Tom Gordon hasn't been a huge mystery this season, to be honest neither has Rivera.
Guest Anglesault Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 They're getting the job done. Even Gordon's one big disaster, the game in Texas, he pitched well. He just fielded poorly.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 The closer mystique means nothing. The Phillies have Roberto Hernandez, who is in the top ten all times in saves. I wouldn't trust him with a game any more than Bowa himself. An effective reliever is an effective reliever.
Guest Anglesault Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Nothing depresses me more than seeing the Sox down by one and Manny at the plate.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Nothing depresses me more than seeing Daubach come up in a key situation
the pinjockey Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 God fucking dammit Roberto Hernandez sucks.

The rampant Bonds hate prevents me from posting much, though. 7 in a row and fast approaching .500. Hey, in the NL West, it could mean first place.
MrRant Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 It's hard to be vocal when your team is 13 games below .500 and you know it's because the GM is a moron and didn't make any moves to improve the team. It's not like we improved and just haven't been playing well.
the pinjockey Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Phillies lose 9-3. I can't wait to hear why Roberto Hernandez is still brought into games in important situations. "Well we want to have a veteran reliever in there who has been in these situations before." Despite the fact that their best pitcher all year has been a rookie. There is no excuse for walking a guy who shows he is going to sacrifice bunt as soon as he got up there. If someone squares around to give up an out, let him fucking hit it, you do not walk the guy.
Guest Anglesault Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Mariners are USELESS. Eddie better end this.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 We'll get'em tommorow. I'm just happy with what the Red Sox have been able to accomplish thus far with their 5th starter, All Star SS, All Star RF, and now their 3B who was the batting champion last year going down to injuries. If you told me we would either be a 1/2 game ahead or back of first place at this point with all those injuries I would have called you crazy. I thought we were destined for third until people came back from injuries and could make a strong second half push. Oh, and we're also without our power right handed bat specifically designed to face lefties in Ellis Burks along with our primary set-up guy in Scott Williamson.
geniusMoment Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Paul Wilson strained his groin and will not pitch tomorrow against the Expos. I hope Mr. 7-0 is okay to pitch down in Florida.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Cliff Floyd got injured again. They should make an exemption for Floyd and have him always listed on the DL, then place him on the 15 Day Active list before sending him back for a month or so.
Bruiser Chong Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Can Floyd be considered a tragedy yet? He looked to be one his way to superstardom, but he's just been unable to have a full healthy season since the incident at first base all those years ago. It's a shame, especially since he's still productive when he's not on the DL. MLB Extra Innings isn't carrying the Astros / Cards game, but looking at MLB's Gameday, the Stros look like they've imploded in the 8th, giving up five runs, committing two errors and Jimmy Williams getting the boot.
sfaJack Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Astros/Cards is the national FOX game here. You might try that Bruiser though I doubt it's the same in Michigan. This 8th inning at Minute Maid is perhaps one of the most bizarre innings I've ever seen. A ball hits the rafters of the roof (which had been open earlier) and then boom, Cards score 4 runs. I love it. At least maybe the Cubs won't lose any ground today on the Astros.
Guest OctoberBlood Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Am I seeing Lenny Harris batting cleanup? Paul Wilson strained his groin and will not pitch tomorrow against the Expos. I hope Mr. 7-0 is okay to pitch down in Florida. Yeah, nothing major. JV is getting called up. Valentine starts tomorrow for Paul Wilson who tweaked his groin...as far as I know now, he is NOT going on the DL, just getting some rest. If Valentine does well, he will pitch out of the pen on a regular basis. I'm thinking either Wagner will go down for one day (which I don't think he can, for just 1 day and then come back - gotta be 10), or Reith will try and sneak through waivers.
sfaJack Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Cardinal catcher Cody McKay had 5 career hits coming into today's game. He's gone 4-5 today. Just one of those peculiar "That's baseball!" moments.
