Recommended Posts

courtesy of Silvervision.co.uk

On March 13th 2004 - the night before Wrestlemania XX - World Wrestling Entertainment held a very special ceremony to induct 11 legends, Jesse "The Body" Ventura, Greg "The Hammer" Valentine, Don Muraco, Big John Studd, Junkyard Dog, "Superstar" Billy Graham, Sgt. Slaughter, Tito Santana, Harly Race, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan and Pete Rose, into its hallowed Hall of Fame. These are highlights of that ceremony.

Three Hours of DVD Extras...

Seven legendary matches:

- "Superstar" Billy Graham vs. Bruno Sammartino

- Sgt. Slaughter vs. Pat Patterson (with alternate commentary)

- Don Muraco vs. Pedro Morales

- Jesse Ventura vs. Bob Backlund

- Big John Studd vs. Andre The Giant

- Greg Valentine vs. Tito Santana

- Junkyard Dog vs. Harley Race

Plus: Pete Rose's three Wrestlemania appearences, classic interviews, promos and vignettes.

Seven legendary matches:

- "Superstar" Billy Graham vs. Bruno Sammartino

- Sgt. Slaughter vs. Pat Patterson (with alternate commentary)

- Don Muraco vs. Pedro Morales

- Jesse Ventura vs. Bob Backlund

- Big John Studd vs. Andre The Giant

- Greg Valentine vs. Tito Santana

- Junkyard Dog vs. Harley Race

1. Probably one of the MSG rematches after Graham won the belt. I want.

2. Never saw the alley fight. I want.

3. Already have both title changes on The History of the IC Title. Can easily live without. Pedro wasn't that great in the ring. I want Muraco / Backlund.

4. Never saw any of the Jesse / Backlund matches. I want.

5. ...It's from WrestleMania 1 isn't it? Because according to the WWE, Studd never had another big match. Bleh.

6. I predict this is for the IC title and probably one of their MSG matches after Valentine won the belt. Maybe the cerfew draw. I want.

7. From WrestleMania III? Bleh. I dare them to go in the vault and dig out some quality Race stuff (WWWF / NWA title unification from Miami!)

I'll definately get the DVD but this is such a teaser when it comes to the extra matches.

i would say the Bruno/Graham match will be Graham's title win in Baltimore because that match was taped, only seems logical it would be that.

Muraco's will probably be his title win

Jesse/Backlund was on History of WWF Title video, but who knows it may be a different match

I assume Slaughter and Patterson provide their own alternate commentary for their match?

Studd and Bundy could possibly be their cage match or something, they probably had several matches recorded at the house shows

Any Valetine/Santana match they show would be great, most likely one in MSG

JYD vs Race could be from SNME, and I also have a match from Toronto of those, so who knows?

As there is no Bobby Heenan match, hopefully lots of classic Heenan footage from Prime Time or something is shown (they showed a brief clip of Heenan and Gorilla on Prime Time in the HOF clip at Mania, I think from 6/87 when Heenan "injured" his neck)

Also the cover for the DVD looked brilliant as well

Actually I have no desire to see any of those matches. Every match I have seen from the 70's I have found to be too old school for my tastes, and the matches from the 80s, such as JYD/Race sucked. I think really old school matches are an equired taste I just do not have, I find them boring.

I'm truly disturbed that WWE is actually putting a Bruno match on a DVD. Betcha it's him losing to Graham though.

Ditto for me. If the matches turn out to be really good and the DVD gets great reviews then I might consider getting it. Benoit's DVD, which is released on the same month, is different. I'll pre-order it as soon as it's available.

The DVD now sounds much better, I am sure the DVD will be worth it alone for the Heenan Prime Time Wrestling segments and I bet the Jesse/Patterson interview is where Ventura constantly refers to him as "Jack Patterson" which is hilarious

Man I hate it on WWE commentaries they actually divide part of the screen to show the wrestlers sitting there doing the commentary. Why can't they just do commentaries like regular DVDs?

That aside, this DVD sounds pretty interestin'. Is 1977 the oldest footage they've put out on DVD? How far back does their recorded footage go anyways?

I think it was always just more or less Bruno Sammartino being bitter about the direction professional wrestling was going at the time of his retirement, less sports and more entertainment, and he blames it all on Vince.

I'll handle this one:

First off there isn't just one reason, it's several. Bruno is upset first and foremost because of all the drug use that came into wrestling around his retirement/time his son started in the business. Some say he is bitter because of his son's failure to become a wrestler, but I don't buy that. He also doesn't like the product today as he is very old school and thinks more wrestling over sports entertainment. I also thing that Bruno was upset that he All of these things combined with some issues that he and Vince have personally(and that we'll never know) are probably part of it too.

Tito and Hammer and Race and JYD should have gotten seperate matches to highlight their career.

Any of Race's 7 world title wins would have served better then showing him PAST his prime.

How can they NOT show one of Santana/Martel's many matches during their never ending rivialry.

See the Flair DVD for NWA Harley Race; after all, it's the *WWE* HOF.
