Joe Schmoe 2 Premiers Tuesday June 15th on Spike!

Recommended Posts

Hahaha TJ can't say it right!

Which oddly enough, fits right into the character. TJ wouldn't be the type to "give" anyways.

And I got the whole Ingrid thing wrong, but I called Bryce going, at least. And I'm still saying that he'll be back, wanted or not...

As for next week's ep - "I'm sorry we had to see that... on such a small monitor". Ralph rules it.

SHIT, why couldn't TJ have gone?

Although Bryce's crying was hilarious, as was the whole lie detector event. Next week's show looks even better.

And it should be a rule that Spike TV should have Matt Kennedy Gould say "Whhhaaattt is goooing OOON?!" before and after every commercial break.

I missed last week...when did they say it was going to be 90 minutes and have Matt?

At the end...plus the commercials all week. "They were saying, tune in for this special 90 minute Schmo!"

As for Matt, he was never announced so I can understand, but in the preview, they showed him in the house, doing what I don't know though.

While I did forget they promised a 90 minute show (someone on IRC reminded me while I complained about my next item), I did remember them promising Matt, and I was quite pissed then the hour was up with no sign of him.

Outside of being flasley advertised to, I enjoyed the episode. Interesting stuff with Ingrid there.

I'm thinking that was actually a "rehearsal shot"...

I think the shot of Matt from the commericial was a red herring. He wasn't technically announced (no one came out an said "Matt's on the show next week!"), but shown to get the audience to wonder if he could show up.

If Tim wants to work "cunnilingus" 3 times into conversation he should just talk about that SNL skit from the Christopher Walken episode.

I was thinking the same thing. He should just say Colonel Ingus instead.

Or "cunning linguist".

The actor who played Piper's dad did a good job coming across as an overprotective ass. I can understand wanting to win, but I'd have had a seriously hard time putting up with that shit if I was Tim. If the girl's over 21, its time for her parents to shut the fuck up.

I loved the father. "I don't use that word, and I don't practice it". I got the line wrong, but it was gold all the way. And you had to like Bryce's terrible poetry, it's just too bad he couldn't work the word "effulgent" into it.

The new schmoe was unexpected, but likable. Nowhere near Ingrid in terms of looks though.

Fun ep, had me cracking up throughout. Now Bryce can come back as the stalker like Starvenger said, and it'll be great. Gerald was also really good this week, his performance at the lie detector was flawless. And TJ's ceremony speech? "Your mom is hot". And she still picks him over the poetry freak. Good times.

It seems like I crack up everytime they cut to a clip of Montecore squaking.

That and the persistant shots of the toad. This show is just so funny.

"Thank God she thinks it's real"

Someone give the caption-writing guy(s) a bonus - he's really on top of his game this season...

Great episode. I wasn't expecting bringing Ingrid in as an actress at all, and the new schmoe was a good idea too. (I can't seem to spell schmoe right unless I'm looking at it...)

And I totally forgot about the 90 minutes thing. That's the only thing that sorta dampers this otherwise fine episode.

And the masher challenge was AWESOME. Haveing Gerled (Spelling?) win was GOLD.

Lie detctor ruled it too.

Bryce's character is done perfectly.

Thanks.

I think since the new Jane Schmoe's first reaction to hearing Ingrid tell the porno story was "I shouldn't trust Ingrid" that they should turn ingrid's character into a gossip (execpt for in front of tim).

Ralph's post-interview line during the Mashed Potatoes game ("You can really tell a girl's merit by shoving her face in mashed potatoes and making her deep-throat a sausage.") HAS to be a classic line in history, period.

Has anything Ralph said in the confessionals NOT been classic?

Rhetorical question, guys. But he's had more than a few good ones...

New Schmo Blog entry here. It explains why the whole 90 minute episode wasn't shown.

Mo Schmo

I don’t have much time to write tonight (I’ll post more later this week), but I thought I’d answer some specific questions people have asked about episode 4.

1. Why wasn’t the show 90 minutes long as promoted?

Two words: ratings fears. Viewership drops drastically after midnight, and after the move to our new late night time slot, Spike feared losing viewers for the final half hour. So we lost thirty minutes. We’ll see what we can do about getting the excised half hour on the air soon. It’s very, very funny, and it includes Matt Gould’s appearance and Derek Newcastle’s ‘British Breakfast.’

2. Where was Tim during the reveal to Ingrid?

He was on his date with Piper (notice Piper was nowhere to be seen in the reveal either). We aired this event out of sequence. Creative license! =)

3. Is Bryce coming back?

Bryce isn’t so good with rejection. I’ll leave it at that.

4. Why did Cammy and Ambrosia go so far over the top in the last eviction ceremony?

Because we were about two minutes away from revealing the truth to Ingrid! We had nothing to lose.

5. How did Amanda show up so quickly?

We have backup schmos on hold in case anything goes wrong. Amanda was sitting in a hotel room in Los Angeles, awaiting her fate, when she got the call. Matt, too, had a backup. His name was Denver. He’s the guy on the season one DVD in the yellow shirt, the one who Ralph said *can* dance.

6. Why are all three schmos (so far) from Washington D.C.?

Coincidence. We looked all over America, but our first three candidates just happened to hail from D.C. Something in the water?

7. Did Jana Speaker do a good job on the show?

A fantastic job. She’s a true pro.

Thanks to everyone who has praised the series. We can’t hear enough of that kind of thing!

Rhett

For those interested, here's an episode summary that includes the half hour that was cut out (which did include MKG's cameo).

He's destroying reality TV kayfabe left and right... heh...

Woohoo!!

Does anyone else think that that's not exactly what the person meant when asking the question?

OK, because you just KNOW you want to find out about Matt Gould's appearance on the show, here's the official show recap of it, spoilered out in case you don't wanna know...

In honor of Amanda, Derek had the producers bring in a traditional English lunch. Long story short, the lunch tastes like 'boiled ass.' Or as Tim describes it, 'this tastes like raw meat soaked in urine.' (Note to self: return those European videos back to Video Hut.)

You get the picture...the food was horrible. In fact, it's so bad the guys decide to order pizza for the house...and who delivers the pizza? Who else? The nations most popular former pizza delivery man himself...Mr. Matt Kennedy Gould...(my very good friend for those of you who are wondering).

You know we had to have a cameo. And what better time? Matt rolls in just as pretty as you please, drops off the pizzas, and then gives Derek a ceremonious high-five on the way out. Let me just take a moment and say that Matt Kennedy Gould is not only a classic, stand-up guy, but totally irreplaceable. Earlier in the synopsis I told Ingrid I loved her...so never mind the bullocks...I'm saying it to Matt as well...I love you too, pal!

Back to the show...Derek strolls in after Matt and is stunned to discover the cast shoveling down pizza hand over fist. He's crushed that they didn't enjoy the English brunch and slinks away in obvious disappointment. The only thing funnier than Ralph Garmon as an English host is Ralph Garmon as an English host with his feelings hurt.

Matt >>>>>> Tim. Enough said, but this season isn't too bad...except the chick found them out like 5 minutes into the show.

New SchmoBlog entry...

The Crossover

Ingrid's crossover was the climax of roughly four days of hell on the set of 'Joe Schmo 2.' The question remains: How much *had* Ingrid figured out bythe time we brought her over to the dark side?

The answer? A ton. We had been carefully avoiding actually asking Ingrid to lay out all of her suspicions for fear of engendering even more. But right before the crossover, my partner Paul sat her down and asked her what she really thought was going on. Ingrid said she suspected everyone on the show was an actor except Tim, T.J., and Gerald (T.J. and Gerald are still proud of this fact). That was all Paul and I needed to hear to justify the decision.

The logic for de-Schmoing Ingrid was solid. One, she was totally onto us, regardless of the various hopes/arguments to the contrary. Two, she could have very easily voiced her doubts in front of Tim, spoiling the joke for him (I voiced this particular concern so many times on-set, people started to call me Rainman). Three, her reactions to all the craziness were no longer genuine and pure.

We were longing to get back to 'Joe Schmo' in its original, pristine form. And we had a backup Schmo (Amanda) waiting at a nearby hotel, ready to go. Of course, we didn't want to lose Ingrid's compelling personality, which resulted in our proposal to her that she remain on the show as an actress. Wait and see how she does...

We presented the events of that fateful day out of sequence. First, the cast celebrated Tim's birthday. Second, Tim and Piper went out on their date. Then, while Tim was out of the house, we revealed the truth to Ingrid.

I'm depressed that viewers haven't gotten the chance to see the ninety minute version of episode four. You can catch Matt Gould's appearance here on the website. The rest will have to wait until the network can find the right time to air the extended episode (so it won't interfere with existing programming).

The lie detector guy had an IFB (wireless earpiece) in his ear. We fed him the appropriate thumbs ups and downs for all the answers, with the exception of Tim's. Those results were genuine.

I watched episode four last night with a few close friends and MKG himself (yeah, we saw the ninety minute version... a perk of producing the show). He seemed to like the episode a lot. And he took the loss of his scene in stride. Still the greatest guy ever!

One more tidbit before I go... the photo of Gerald dressed as a woman in Montreal was created by our art department. They shot Gerald in the outfit and used PhotoShop to superimpose him onto the Montreal skyline. It looked stunningly real. When it comes to our show, if you have to ask, it was probably faked... ;)
